The only central midfield we have any business playing is Barry/Parker/Carrick, but any manager will see that this midfield lacks the ability to pass further than ten yards and not in a straight line, so one of Gerrard or Lampard will be drafted in and who knows. Gerrard was one of two decent players at the World Cup and Lampard/Barry has worked a couple of times lately.

The closest thing you have to that within the FA's reach is Stuart Pearce and that hasn't been going well.
