Why? Because he does a reasonable job as a pundit he will be a great coach? I really don't understand why anyone thinks he's a great pundit either, as it goes. He never says anything a reasonably knowledgeable fan doesn't already know. Compared to the other pundits he looks brilliant, but, well, gently caress. So would you lot. edit: that doesn't mean you lot would be bad, it means you lot would be as good as Gary Neville, which is okay. edit2: Just having your badges doesn't mean you're going to be a good coach. This is one area where I'd expect someone to have experience before coaching international players into a major tournament. stickyfngrdboy fucked around with this message at May 14, 2012 around 13:19 |

Like Carragher he made up for a lack of technical ability and speed by learning to read a game really well and sheer bloody effort. Even beyond being a reasonable pundit, he played 600 games for United, won every club trophy he could and had Fergie helping him take his coaching badges. That's not a bad place to start from.

I agree that his playing experiences should be a great base on which to start a coaching career, but again, none of that means he will be any good at all as a coach. I am sure you could think of a manager or two who played under Ferguson for a long long time, played many games under him, and yet aren't quite up to the job themselves. Same goes for coaches. I have nothing against Neville at all, and think he will probably be a top manager one day. Personally I would prefer to see someone prove their coaching skills elsewhere before they become an international coach.

Loving Africa Chaps posted:Well if his punditry is a guide his tactical knowledge is superb and will be able to actually analyse and advise the players properly but it will be a shame to not have him on the telly. With Sky not having the tournament, it won't make much difference. Going forward, he'll have plenty of time to do both, I'd imagine. Just hope it doesn't mean more Quinn on Sky.

VERY happy about the GNev news. His autobiog made it clear he had his head screwed on when it came to international football - pleasure to be part of, but not the be all and end all. Let's hope he can mentor some of the younger players, and also teach some of our right backs like Johnson and Walker about something called 'defending'

Apropos of nothing, me and the girlfriend (?!) just had a discussion about English players in the two Manchester sides. Could a competitive XI be drawn from their two squads? Hart; Richards, Smalling, Ferdinand, Lescott; Milner, Scholes, Carrick, Barry, A. Johnson; Rooney That wouldn't be the worst team in the world, actually...

Young over Johnson and that'd probably be good enough to get out the group.

It's not surprising that a Manchester XI is a really strong team. Obviously you can do the same for Barca/Madrid, but pick the top two clubs from any country and that's where the majority of your internationals are coming from. The exception would be Brazil and Argentina, but obviously that's not really relevant here. Hoops fucked around with this message at May 14, 2012 around 19:41 |

How did Belgium miss out on Euro? Boggling 1) No decent wingbacks 2) Some of the players being cunts and not giving it all during Belge matches (coughhazardcough) 3) No striker who can poach in all the goals like we used to have (ex. Nilis, Sonck) 4) Bailly turned to poo poo in the first half of the 2012 qualifiers 5) We hosed it up in Azerbaijan, vs Austria and vs Turkey.
