Nope. Transfarring requires you to set your PSP to USB Connection mode, so as long as you have a PSP, USB cable, and your old PW save file you can transfar just fine.

I finished MGS3 first on normal, and holy poo poo is it amazing with full camera controls and shiny eye candy... Absolutely beautiful.

Started MGS2 on Hard as I played the ever loving poo poo out of it when it came out (i.e I had a deep sense of self loathing and want for the delicious secret items), it also looks great, but not as much of a step up as MGS3.

And then there's peace walker, which I played on PSP. It's so much better with 2 sticks (makes all of the target missions piss easy though not having to deal with a nub), and it looks great. I played versus for a few hours tonight after knocking over all but the last Monster Hunter Mission.

My online experience was mixed, playing with Japanese guys it runs great, anywhere else it ranges from playable to HOLYFUCKCONNECTIONUNSTABLEWHATTHEFUCKAREYOUDOING.

I'm the only Auzzie I've seen online, I don't know anyone else who has bought it from my local gamestore, my town is a loving hole. But the game is amazing, best HD collection ever.

Ugh. I got all 64 Kerotans and the achievement didn't show up. I think I may have forgotten to re-shoot the one in the fight with The Fury after he killed me. poo poo.

Got Fashionista, Markhor and Tsuchinoko though, so that's nice.

And now I found out that the MGS2 achievement wants every dogtag, on all difficulties. Does it want both 2001 and 2002 as well? gently caress that noise.

Awesome then, I'll start fresh. So excited to go through these again. How is the online multiplayer of PW? Doesn't it have 6 player co-op now on certain missions like the vehicle ones (extra ops I mean, not main ops or whatever that was called).

One thing I am concerned about is gaining new recruits, I did all my recruiting through wi-fi on my PSP, so my army is hench and all have A/S rank stats, obviously I can't take my PS3 everywhere with me so how does it work... or alternatively can I somehow transfer(far) my recruits to a new save?

I think technically it's that MGS2 wants every unlockable item. It just takes like 90% of all the possible dog tags in all five difficulties to get all of them or something like that.

But yeah. I'm just like "fuuuuuck."

In regards to the kerotans though, gently caress the motorcycle scenes. Especially while doing a no-kill run. Glad I'm done with that.

You don't have to go back and re-shoot it after he kills you. I had the exact same concern and the trophy popped as soon as I shot the one in the final fight.

How do you even pull that off though, seriously? The only thing I've even thought to get those is just going nuts with a machine gun in the general direction of where the frog should be and I still wind up missing half the time. I always used an RPG, the splash damage makes missing less of an issue, and it's pinpoint accurate. The problem with the M63 is it likes to shoot around things, even if you're standing still. It's good for shootin' dudes and that's about it.

PW online is good if you have a good connection. PW co-op missions are 4 people max. Some extra ops are solo only and some are only up to 2 people. All the vehicles and bosses are 4 max but the difficulty scales by number of players so keep that in mind.

As for recruiting, that's another thing co-op is good for. Play a few co-op missions and then go to the Recruit menu and grab your new d00dz that way.

To clarify, recruiting in the console versions is based on how many missions you play in COOPs, rather than WiFi access points. I haven't made a connection as to whether or not the rank of the recruits is based on the difficulty of the missions you take though.

Not meant as a troll or anything as MGS3 is probably my overall favorite game of all time, but what's the appeal of Kerotan hunting? The way it's being described here sounds terribly unfun. The most collectible thing I've done in MGS is collect all the dogtags in the Tanker section of MGS2 and the majority of that had to do with me playing as Snake. Once I realized what I had to do in the Plant to get progressively useless rewards I just said gently caress it. It also felt like any of the tasks I've mentioned in this post are basically non-completable without a guide, although I'm pretty certain I did the Tanker in MGS2 without a guide simply because it's so small.

Now that I think about it, it seems like it would be alot more fun if you were able to break the game up into replayable chapters somehow in order to make gathering these things less of a "oh god I missed one early on now I had to do literally everything again" chore.

I'm pretty sure it's how you get the infinite ammo bandana or Stealth camo or some other horribly broken piece of equipment. Also in this version you get a trophy.

I don't think anyone would disagree but that's what was considered "high replay value" back in 2001. The dogtags are more of a bragging rights thing than anything else. Oh yeah and again there are multiple trophies for them in this version if you care about that.

Willsun posted:

If you don't have the Battle Dress with Helmet yet, I suggest trying to find it first. You can earn it by S-ranking a series of missions instead of hoping it drops from outer ops. Those missions would be extra ops #22-27 and #38-44. Most of these missions are easily unlocked once you beat all the story missions except #25, which is unlocked with this chain: 23 > 24 > 105 > 25. Mission #42 is only unlocked after completing #76.

First beat the game all the way through Chapter 5. Get fulton mines from extra ops #64 to fulton anyone on a ledge you can't reach above you, and get MG3 (armor piercing) from #44 to easily headshot all the soldiers in vehicle missions before you can get both the fulton launcher and the bandana.

Combat: Play some online co-ops, spam the hell out of the Recruit function.

R&D: Extra ops #49

Food: Extra ops #46

Medic: Extra ops #46

Intel: Destroy the Barricade

Follow this chain. Each mission opens the next: 45 > 46 > 102 > 47 > 48 > 91 > 49 > 75 > 50 (Stealth Camo) > 37 > 98 (Fulton Launcher) > 83 (EM Net)

Also do this one: 64 > 65 > 87 > 111 (M47)

And this: 113 > 115 > 117 > 119 (Bandana)

Saving and reloading. Thankfully, the kerotan's are one per 'area' so you can save after you confirm each one. I used the SVD for that. To ensure you succeeded, immediately switch to your Directional Mic and aim it at the kerotan. Listen carefully!

Also I used the Ga-Ko camo and start menu like a paranoid motherfucker everytime I entered AND re-entered an area.

Also, I ended up using the RPG for a couple of those kerotans, only the ones with no soldiers standing next to them. The one drat kerotan at the blockade was annoying because it was at the end of the 'area' so I'd have to sit through the whole sequence getting shot at to have another crack at it. Plus a soldier standing right next to it so I had to be careful.

The first (PS1) Metal Gear Solid. All the games that came after relate to it directly and MGS2 in particular will not make a lick of sense without it. MG1 and 2 are nice to know of but aren't referenced as much.

You could start with MGS3 but there will be a few Easter Eggs you'll miss out on.

If you're on PS3 MGS1 is on the PSN and it's only like $10. You might also be able to track down a CD copy and PSX emulation runs the game perfectly fine.

The Scorpion is a pretty good weapon to shoot the frogs with, I found. It doesn't have any zoom but it's got a laser on it, so you don't have to aim down the irons and it's still pretty accurate, giving you a better picture of whether or not you hit it. It's even better with the fact that you can action reload it while still in first person (at least on the bike section), although the hand position for that is a little awkward. Nothing new for MGS, though.

I finished MGS3 tonight, and I haven't played it since pretty much it was first released, the camera controls they added to it made it so much better. I forgot most of the story too so playing through all that again was great, although all the end stuff is still quite . MGS3 I think is still my favourite of the series, however...

I've not played Peace Walker before and I've heard alot of good things about it, so I started this up not long after finishing MGS3 tonight. I've done a few missions and I'm really liking it, it's nice it's got the MGS4 style controls which I liked so I'm using those as they seem to work well with this game too. I love Fulton feature, knocking out all the enemies and sending them to my base via fulton is just an extension of my usual method of knocking out everyone and dumping them in a pile together. Now everyone gets to zoom off into the sky and join me . I really quite like the style of these cutscenes too but the interactive parts were surprise when they popped up, going to need to pay more attention in future!

Couple of thigns I don't like though, the text thats on it's side at the side of the screen is hard to read. Accessing the weapons/items menus doesn't appear to pause the game either (in fact nothing apepears to pause the game?) and not being able to tactical reload (unless they changed how to do it) keeps messing me up, I just need to get used to not being able to do it in this game I suppose.

Removing the inventory pause and stuff is a necessary gameplay change for multiplayer but it can get annoying. Use the 3 item and 3 weapon cycle. It takes getting used to but it will save your rear end once you do.

Using the Pause Menu pauses the game. (though not during COOPs)

Tactical reload was removed because combat against the far more involved bosses that don't blink in and out of vulnerability with guns that you can reload in half a second would just be broken.

Oh, definitely. MGS4 in particular is a direct continuation of the themes of MGS2 and is essentially more of the same plotwise, if not gameplay-wise. Twin Snakes/MGS1 isn't so out-there and philosophical, but it's the same sort of writing, just on a different topic. It's more grounded in reality and the ending isn't quite so indecipherable.

Ah yes, you're right indeed, it does actually pause! I didn't think it did as all the game sounds appeared to keep playing for me so I wasn't sure. Also I found out that there is a reload button, so that helps me more too. Not entirely sure how I missed both these things, I read all the controls schemes in the manual...guess I just didn't notice it mentioning the reload button as one hasn't been in the series before (I think).

I believe they're handled with some of the unused stick buttons. I think LS will bring up your gun without firing, and it serves as throat cutting as well. If someone with the 360 version couldverify what exactly they are that would be great!

Canonically? It is referred to in the "previous operations" briefings in MGS as being instrumental in ending the world energy crisis, and in MGS 4 Campbell mentions that the war economy largely grew into the void left by the shrinking oil economy. OILIX is likely being used worldwide, explaining why much of the Middle East is a war-torn hellhole in MGS 4; the natural resource that lay as the foundation of their entire economy is now produced globally.
