A little while ago, probably in your mothers basement, possibly your local McDonald's with free WiFi... ![]() WHAT? Astro Empires is a free, mostly text based browser mmo set in space. There are currently over fifty galaxies in the Lyra server, and over 11,000 players spread across 195,000 planets. That may sound a little vast, but in reality you'll only be dealing with a handful of your own planets at a time. The goal, like in most MMO's, is to level your account up and get bigger, better stuff, and collect loot from blown up space boats in the form of space debris which you recycle for more credits; also space tears. you do this by establishing bases throughout all of the available galaxies, trading resources, building your fleet (warships ranging from small frigates and corvettes to massive leviathans and, sigh, death stars), attacking other players, or just simulating your epic space ego until virtual credits are pouring out your ears. This is not a fast paced game. Typically after the first few days you'll log in, queue up buildings to produce, send ships to nearby planets to scout/attack/defend, and then spend the rest of the time either staring at timers as they count down or posting in guild chat with fellow goons. each galaxy is broken up into 100 segments, and within each segment is a handful of stars, each with its own solar system of planets. Travel times between planets in the same system are only a few seconds, but traveling from one system to another generally runs in the multiple hours range, so if you're looking for a game where you can mindlessly kill "bandits" and grind away the hours of your life this is not it. If you're looking for a fun social game you can casually play from any computer with an internet access, or you want to role play that your Captain Kirk or somebody from Battlestar Galactica, read on. WHY? If you're new to this, let me give you some background, if you're already going for the reply button to tell me what a fag i am for creating yet another astro empires thread, deal with it (but join anyways). Goons have a time honored tradition of trolling in video games. A long time ago when astro empires was new, GOON was an epic force to be reckoned with. In the early servers (Alpha, Beta, etc) Goon guilds spanned several guilds and hundreds of players. Within the game there are alliances, treaties, pacts, etc, between guilds. [GOON] would regularly make treaties, pacts, etc and deliberately break them to cause wars, panic, tears, and plenty of laughs. This is not against any set of rules, as the terms of how you run a guild are only limited by your imagination. the Goon guilds in the early servers massed millions upon millions of fleet in war times, and through strategically coordinated attacks managed to become the most hated group of people in the game. They didn't play by the "rules" of other guilds, and they prospered wildly because of it. After Epsilon, no Goon guild has really matched the tenacity or size of the first groups formed in the prior servers, but the goals are still the same. If you want to read more or think im blowing smoke up ur rear end, here. http://wiki.astroempires.com/index.php?title=Goonion HOW? #1 Go here http://lyra.astroempires.com/ and sign up #2 IMPORTANT when prompted to pick a galaxy to start in, you'll want to choose either L53 L54 or L55 so you start close to your buddies. 90% of the guild is located in L55, I'd suggest giving that a try. #3 log in, and join our goon guild, currently named [DONG]. This link will take you to the guild page, http://lyra.astroempires.com/guild.aspx?guild=817 and above the roster you'll click a link to join the guild. #4 post your in game name in this thread to get accepted into the guild. From there we'll be more than happy to tell you how to play your game, and give you neat tips and good conversation and boost your self esteem, maybe even get a girl to kiss you. There's an in game tutorial that will give you the basics if you follow it, but we'll help you 100% of the way. This is the part with pictures From my account, started only a few days ago, these are some of the interfaces you use in the game. the units and structures shown here are only the tip of the iceberg as far as the number of unique ships or structures or technologies in the game. This is the galaxy L53. The white squares are solar systems in which i have a base, the lines are flight paths i currently have ships traveling on. if you haven't played in a while, the maps are now more manageable; you can click and drag and use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. ![]() And here's an example of a solar system (one star). also in this example, is an example of a retarded player. spread your bases out for fucks sake. ![]() These are my current production capabilities and construction capabilities on my first planet. like i said the account is less than a week old and there are many more options later in the game. ![]()

This looks a hell of a lot like OGame, that game was awesome as long as you had the upper hand over your neighbours because once one of them got on top you'd be hammered into dust with no hope of recovery. Is this as similar as it looks?

The most important thing to remember is that the first few hours are the most important as they set the tone for how successful you can be in the first 7 days. One great thing about now versus the original Goonion is that everyone has a smart phone you can check your account no matter where you are. We are also always looking for more goons to put these cocky pubbies back in their place.

Nice, I just started playing again about a month ago. Flew with [GOON] on Epsilon in 2008. Currently, I'm having fun in Galaxy 39 with a pubby guild, but perhaps I will relocate out to you guys. Couple words of advice: The forums for this server(Lyra) are absolute trash, plenty of e-spartans waving their e-peens everywhere and lots of circle-jerk dumbshit that no one, even those playing, really cares about. Also, many of the guilds in this server try to start in the same area and form "stronghold galaxies" where they have bases in every system and control all the good planets. This can be hell if you're not in their guild. I don't know what the situation is up there in the 50's but I thought this thread from their forums could be useful. It lays out the current guild strongholds and galaxies. http://forum.astroempires.com/viewt...?f=126&t=105881 My IGN is Bigglesworth. Goonspeed. TskMgr posted:

I'm not really sure what's going on with the goon guild now; all our best members (including the OP) left and joined enemy alliances. I'm sticking around and turtling like a motherfucker, but I don't know if this guild really has a future now.
