Patch is today, right? I bought this a few days ago and like the missions but the new campaign or whatever you call it looks amazing. I didn't really get much "Mount & Blade" from it but I can see it more in this new game mode. I'm excited

Oh yeah, now this is where the M&B comparison comes from. I'm definitely digging this.

Perestroika posted:Another tip for the (kind of) early game: Get a squadron of Broadsword fighters, they are incredibly brutal. They'll rip any other kind of fighter apart with ease (at least those the pirates field) and can pose a danger most frigates. To top it off they are really resilient as well. With just my cruiser and one squad of them I can go up against a pirate fleet thrice my size composed of frigates/fighters and laugh as my Broadswords just singlehandedly annihilate their fighters while I blow away the frigates (on another note, Mauler cannons are awesome). Thanks for the tip with the Broadswords. I was planning on saving for a better ship but this is much better. Getting going is tough, but I'm starting to get the hang of things. The fighters are nice because I don't have to do anything

Oh man. The gameplay finally clicked for me today and two hours later I am loving it. My fleet is growing, so I'm at the point where the easiest groups for me to kill of 1-3 ships are too fast for me to catch, then every other group outnumbers me by a lot. Once I get to battle I usually give the AI control of my better ships because I know it can hit more accurately than me.

This game needs a BSG mod.

I like the little escape pod you shuttle between ships in

Remmon posted:If you're energy weapons heavy, you may consider using 'F' to build up flux intentionally, without having to spam your weapons or get shot at. This makes it that much easier to get supercharged for ships with really long range weapons without poking into the enemy's firing range. Oh wow, I had no idea about this. Thanks!

Dominic White posted:The fantastic Junk Pirates mod just updated with full campaign support. It adds a whole new faction with their own (very unique) ships to the sandbox. A full set of fighter class ships, some frigates, even going all the way up to capital class. They start neutral and operate a station where you can buy their ships. Yesss, I'm so glad there's already mods coming out that add good content.

I would save for a wing of Broadswords, maybe first get one group of the cheaper fighters to help earn some money. Then get a carrier (the cheap one) once you have enough money so you can rearm and repair your fighters mid-battle. It's hard to gently caress up if you remember to save every time you win a battle so if you lose you can just reload if things go wrong! You only need crew to run your ships, it'll say "Needs more crew!" if you need more and that's about the extent of it. Higher rank means better stats. Marines are needed to board ships that get disabled during battle to steal them, but this doesn't always happen after every battle.

Lprsti99 posted:I have this idea stuck in my head for a weapon of some kind, likely a missile, that would force affected ships to fire all of their weapons for a period of time, and if it caps them on flux, overloads them. I just want to see a big ship spinning wildly due to a flameout missile, and carving its own fleet up with its big fuckoff laser. This sounds fantastic.
