Seeing those avatars in general is just a big turnoff. They're fine for a game like 1 vs. 100 but doesn't look appealing at all in any other game.

The game is also very low rent and boring as heck. I mean, the gameplay of Wrestlefest was basically "Mash buttons, insert quarters" but they found a way to even mess that up. The wrestlers look ugly as hell, don't do the right moves, and there are no fun inter-match cut scenes with announcers, just the same picture of Mean Gene over and over. If you get thrown out in the Royal Rumble, the game doesn't end or let you control the next entrant, you just sit there until the CPU finishes wrestling or you quit the game. Bare minimum of effort taken in making the game.

Activision and EA flooded the rhythm game market with multiple entries of Rock Band and Guitar Hero a year, and look where they are now: Guitar Hero is completely dead, and Rock Band 3 sold incredibly, shockingly poorly.

So Rock Band Blitz is just Rock Band with a normal controller that uses the old RB tracks? I've been waiting for this for a long time, because no way in gently caress do I have the space for a bunch of plastic poo poo but at the same time, I loved coming home after a party or something and getting my Amplitude on. I feel asleep playing that game more times that I can count, so this is right up my alley.

What's interesting is that I haven't bought a Guitar Hero game SINCE Rock the 80's, which is conveniently when the first Rock Band game came out. Yes, the support for DLC in phenominal. In a way it's like Apple where I have this huge collection of Apps for my device that carry over to each new device I get. I have this huge library of songs for Rock Band that keeps growing and growing.... I would not be surprised if the next generation Rock Band for PS4 or whatever continues to support the existing DLC.

As someone who has both franchises (except the later GH titles; I stopped at World Tour), I will say that I've always preferred RB. Harmonix has a great eye for presentation that is all over RB3, like the little cutscenes for your band and just the general feel of the whole game. I hope that they do find a way for the DLC to carry over as I have 500 songs (counting the disc imports) and that would suck to lose access to that in a new game.

All I can say is that I lived in Silicon Valley when the original Guitar Hero came out. In fact, I went to their original headquarters in Mountain View to pick up the game and two controllers - you could do that back then. My desire for that type of game was sated with GH1. They had a wimpy little headquarters in a building built in the 70s in 2005. Two years later, they were in a much nicer location off of that singular franchise and were milking it for all it was worth. I don't blame them for doing it, but it was not a good example of long-term planning.

Picked up Mass Effect 3 for 20 bucks last night. Beat the first 2 but going in pretty much 99% blind in regards to gameplay changes and plot. Also got the God of War Saga. 5 God of War Games for 40 bucks. Be aware though the 2 PSP games come as a downloadable voucher, nothing physical which I dont like. And the downloads are like multi-hour long affairs, at least on my wireless. Downloaded Chains of Olympus all night while I slept.

Ah man, it's so good to have these retro arenas all in one game. If (And this is a big if) the AI is good this year, I think WWE 13 will be the staying game for a long time. Lets hope the servers actually work this year. Edit - Just realised they have both of the 'old' 2003 raw sets, one with the original lightning bolt riggin, and one where they later added tv-screens in place of the rigging. How can they be so pedantic about some things, yet totally miss something huge elsewhere. Gotta hand it to them though, it just feels so good to have these arenas, and 'real THQ made' attitude guys rather than lovely caws (as much as I love a good CAW, they still look terrible) simosimo fucked around with this message at Sep 3, 2012 around 15:42 |

I'm interested at the thought of the options you have instead of the Smackdown fist or the Wrestlemania sign. Some article mentioned that you can swop out the fist for something else, say a giant 'WCW' sign.

Second row far right is clearly the Survivor Series '98 Deadly Games set Third row middle looks like the Wrestlemania 15 set, but it's missing the XV sandwiching the logo Second row, second from left could really be any set... as they used that tunnel for a lot of Royal Rumbles, King of the Rings, and Survivor Series. Fifth Row far left looks like an Unforgiven set. Where are you pulling those from? Nitro '98? They admitted to removing that for WWE '13 because it's all about the Attitude Era!

It looks like they didn't care too much about authenticity seeing as they put giant screens on the sides of almost every entrance. That kind of set-up didn't become the norm until at least the mid-00s Raw set.
