I really wish I had any cryx to trade into that. The price is a bit beyond what I can manage, and I've been wanting to get back into Skorne. And Christ P.V. you paint like some sort of demon(a golden demon? ).How do you feel about installments?

Popping in to say that I am a Khador player who has LOVED the Man-O-War models from day-1. As such I now own 13 Shocktroopers(shields and halberds) and 5 Demolition Corps(big hammers). I agree that heavy infantry are not very meta, but definitely have a place in certain lists. Above all use what you like! I consistently win games at my FLGS with Man-O-Wars as the center of my army. High-wound models are just such a pain to make people deal with! Also on the note about Ret. painting: How would a med-dark gray with orange in place of PP's mint color look?

This. This. A thousand times this. I play literally every turn of the game seeing if I can kill the enemy caster and/or do ridiculous poo poo. My favorite moment thus far has to be a buddy and I playing King of the Hill. We agreed to use a bridge as our 'hill' for the game, but with the added fun of having it going over a bottomless pit. Well genius that I am I park my spriggan right on top of the hill. He rolls up some arcane tempest gunmages and begins throwing thunderbolts at my spriggan to knock it into the pit! I get lucky and he rolls not a single crit, but still, it was a pretty white-knuckle moment for me. P.S. Spriggan charged for a kill on eHaley next turn.

Hey Big Willy Style I'm pretty interested in those Skorne, and I own a full Space Marines army I am uninterested in. The catch - I'm pretty sure they are all painted. They've been painted two or three times so I can't remember if they are Salamanders or Black Templar off the top of my head. I can take pictures if you'd like.

So I'm starting a Ret force to play something the complete opposite of my Khador. Here's a list of what I have formatted for ease of viewing. System: Warmachine Faction: Retribution of Scyrah Casters: 2/2 Points: 28/100 Adeptis Rahn Shyeel (*6pts) * Gorgon (5pts) Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper (*7pts) * Phoenix (10pts) Dawnguard Invictors (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts) * Dawnguard Invictor Officer & Standard (2pts) Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts) Heavy Rifle Team (Leader and Grunts) (2pts) Mage Hunter Assassin (2pts) Mage Hunter Assassin (2pts) Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios (3pts) Nayl (2pts) The usual question applies: Where do I go from here? In reading the cards I really like Garryth and Vyros, but Ossyan is cool too. For reference the Phoenix listed above is a magnetized heavy myrmidon kit. The Cavalry look great, but I can't tell if they are worth their points or dollars. Thoughts on all this? edit: can't spell

I was definitely looking at a full unit of battlemages, as they seem ridiculously good, and become phenomenal on Rahn's feat turn.

ATP_Power posted:Fixed that for you there friend. A thousand times this. Hey Menite guys(read:heathens), I am a Khador player. Today I was soundly trounced by Grand Scrutator Severius and would greatly appreciate some advice one what I can do against this list. Sadly I do not know Menoth models well enough to give names, but from memory he had a full unit of Temple Flameguard and UA, Blessing of Vengeance, the 16in inacurate 'jack, the 'heavy with a large flail and flame gun, choir, the character three-man unit, vassal, two guys with giant book, Rhupert Carvolo, and possibly something else? This was a 35 point list. Basically, he bricked up in the center of the board, flameguard in front, BoV in front of them for the arc node, and... well me being frustrated as hell. Eye of menoth made his attrition far stronger than I could deal with, and his TFG had tough which made them a fantastic tar pit. Any help at all would be appreciated. This is one of our group's best players(I am also one of our best players) so I'd really like to know how to deal with Menoth. It may or may not be relevant that this was my second or third game ever against Menoth.

Gay Polymers posted:What were you running in your list? He was running a lot of ranged jacks, engaging them as quickly as possible would have been your best bet to minimize the damage he could output. Did you have any way to strip upkeeps, because I'm assuming the tough TFG had Defender's Ward on them as well, which makes them a bitch and a half to deal with. I love running DW/tough TFG with the book for no knockdown. My list was exactly this: Faction: Khador Casters: 1/1 Points: 35/35 Vladimir Tzepesci, the Dark Champion (*5pts) * Spriggan (10pts) Man-o-war Demolition Corps (Leader and 2 Grunts) (6pts) Man-o-war Shocktroopers (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts) Widowmakers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (4pts) Harlan Versh (2pts) Man-o-war Drakhun (with dismount) (5pts) Manhunter (2pts) Widowmaker Marksman (2pts) He went first, and popped the master marksman with a perfect deviation from the Redeemer. My turn one I just ran. His turn two he killed a widow maker with one of his four deviations from the Redeemer, killed Versh with Ashes to Ashes(because I put the Drakhun right by him, not reading his spells closely was a HUGE mistake) and popped my manhunter with the Vanquisher. I charged the BoV with the Drakhun and whiffed my impact attack, but did 15pts with his charge attack.

The Aberrant posted:Feat with Vlad, ride-by attack into pSevy through whatever troops he might have in the way. If you like running eVlad you should probably be running Ulahns for that very reason. Did exactly this, but he had two ranks of infantry and a full inch between my Drakhun and Seve. Believe me, I desperately wanted to to ride by attack into him, but I simply didn't have the range. There was also a linear obstacle in the way, and my army lacked a method of giving the Drakhun pathfinder. I'd love some Ulahns, but $100 for a 5-man unit is really difficult for my collegiate budget. AttackBacon posted:I'm no expert but it sounds to me you didn't even lose this game? You got shot up by a heavy shooting army (with some really lucky dice it sounds like) and then managed to close and then...conceded. You probably could have held out for at least 2 more turns and I'm sure there would have been at least one chance on Severius in there. My group started about two months ago and myself (Skorne) and our Menoth player play most frequently, and most of my games I lose the attrition war and then kill his caster. Like 60% of the time. A huge part of it was my total lack of familiarity with Menoth, and also my board position. I also let him set up terrain which came out in his favor too. I knew it was a lost game and walked away from it rather than slog it out for three more turns and lose anyhow. I really wish I had brought the Death Star to ruin his brick. Hindsight, etc. Edit: remembered terrain was a factor

So yesterday I played my first ever game with Retribution, and boy do I have a story for you. I brought: System: Warmachine Faction: Retribution of Scyrah Casters: 1/1 Points: 42/42 Adeptis Rahn Shyeel (*6pts) * Phoenix (10pts) Dawnguard Invictors (Leader and 9 Grunts) (10pts) * Dawnguard Invictor Officer & Standard (2pts) Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 9 Grunts) (9pts) Heavy Rifle Team (Leader and Grunts) (2pts) Stormfall Archers (Leader and 3 Grunts) (5pts) Arcanist (1pts) Mage Hunter Assassin (2pts) Mage Hunter Assassin (2pts) Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios (3pts) Nayl (2pts) against a good friend of mine who played: System: Warmachine Faction: Cygnar Casters: 1/1 Points: 42/42 Major Victoria Haley (*5pts) * Thorn (8pts) * Cyclone (9pts) * Defender (9pts) * Ironclad (7pts) * Squire (2pts) Arcane Tempest Gun Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts) (6pts) * Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer (2pts) Captain Arlan Strangewayes (2pts) Gun Mage Captain Adept (2pts) I roll and choose to go first. I had no real clue how to setup this army, so I throw the Dawnguard Sentinals on my right flank, Heavy Rifle Team and Invictors on my left. In the center I throw my Phoenix, Rahn, and the Stormfall. I also deployed my Assassins and Narn on the right flank, with Nayle in the center. He deploys Hayley, Squire, Strangeways, Ironclad and Defender center. He throws the Gunmages and their solo opposite my invictors, with his defender there as well. Turn One:So turn one I throw Polarity Shield on the Phoenix, and cast Force Field with Rahn. Everything runs. On his first turn he does precisely what he told me he would, and runs Thorn up the field, arcs Domination, and takes a swing on Rahn with my Phoenix. On the up side, he only rolls one point of damage. On the down side, Rahn is now on fire. His Gunmage Captain pops one of the Rifle Team, and his cyclone and gunmages move up a bit. Defender and Ironclad move around a bit and essentially do nothing useful. Turn Two: I flail about. kill a couple gunmages, their UA and the Captain adept. Phoneix gets loaded on focus and swings five strokes at his Ironclad, only connects once, but for an impressive nine damage. Mage hunters and Sentinals run up the denied flank, Nayle follows. Narn ends up somewhere in the middle of the board. He charges thorn in at Narn, kills him in one blow, and successfully rips four focus off his Bonded Ironclad. Oops. This results in his ironclad merely walking up to my phoenix, and puts a couple points on it. He moves Hayley up, and uses his feat. Let me take this moment to say that I have played Hayley2 numerous times. And somehow every time I forget her feat. Turn Three:My turn is largely uneventful. the highlight was an Invictor hitting his Ironclad for two points. Hooray flank! On his turn he has some pretty bad damage dice, but still managed to kill all but one Invictor and the standard bearer. Turn Four:Remember how I mentioned Rahn was on fire? Well Rahn has been on fire all game. During my maintenance phase Rhan has four boxes left. Fire finally expires, and I take a deep breath. I see that Hayley is in range of an assassination attempt. I decide to go for it. Rahn moves up and starts by casting telekinesis. Hayley is in cover, and has Deceleration up. This puts her at a staggering defense 22. I activate Rahn's feat to boots all spell to hit/damage rolls, and manage to catch her with Tele. I foolishly did not turn her back to Rahn, and hit her with two direct Chain Blasts, but neither of their additional blast damage. This leaves Haley with ONE damage box. I decide I have to kill her, else the game is his. I charge my last Invictor out of melee with his Ironclad and he kills it with the free strike. I then take my only option left, and charge through the same free strike with my Arcanist. His effective MAT 9 Ionclad needs to rolld a four to hit my poor Arcanist, but he rolls a three! I then realize due to my own foolishness, and set defense, Haley is DEF 20 versus my poor Arcanist's MAT 5. I roll a twelve. I smash Haley for ten damage. Sorry for all the

The Magister, Artificer, and battlemage unit are amazing and I want them - as I main Rahn. The obvious answer is to sell these to me and play your current casters. Really though Ret is a phenomenally fun army to play, and you have tons to work with! Between Invictors and Riflemen you have a very sweet Ossyan list shaping up. Manticore is RoF 3, Stormfall archers are ridiculous with him, and still great otherwise. Sentinels go up front and take the charge/vengeance.

This may just be me, but Warmachine clicked for me after only five or six games. Playing competitively right off the bat may have sped things up. I then moved to another area, and currently maintain around a 2:1 win:loss. Though whilst learning I had the benefit of playing Vlad1 in Mk1 It may also be worth noting that upwards of 90% of my games have been at 35 points. I really prefer 50, but my community just is not interested. Almost related note: I strongly want to start playing Steamroller 2012 rules in my group, but I am unsure how to approach them. Any thoughts?

I actually already have them playing scenarios. Our press-ganger is a good friend of mine, and I convinced him all the league play is a great way to attract more folks(which proved true), so we're seeing tons of that. Thanks for the idea on upping-times. Time is the main part of SR2012 I wanted to start playing, and allowing people one tier higher sounds like a great way to work it in!

Hey everyone. I'm back in my home town for the week, and my best friend challenged me to a game of warmahordes. I essentially learned the game with this guy, years ago, and he has been talking quite a bit of trash. I was hoping for some advice on what to do against his army. He has told me that he intends to play Kromac. I am certain he will use plenty of tharn, and likely the Orboros cavalry. As far as beasts go I have no clue. He has just about every living beast Orboros can take, so that is really up in the air. This is a 35 point game. I intend on taking Rahn, though I also have the option of playing Kaelyssa. Kaelyssa feels a bit gamey since he and I were just talking about how he has trouble with her. I plan on fielding a Phoenix, dawnguard invictors and sentinels, two mage hunter assassins, perhaps an arcanist, and whatever else to fill the points. I'd like to state right now that I do not have any mage units to synergize with Rahn's feat. I'm mostly looking for advice on how I should hand Kromac. If it helps the board we will be playing on should be light on terrain.

I've been intending on purchasing Sylys for some time now. I know he's incredibly important, especially for Ret. I just am poor/forget. Out-ranging beastial would be a wonderful trick, too. I'd never thought about using the Sentinels in a delta to stop tramples, that is a great plan. I was more or less planning on the invictors being my game winner, as his only real answer is to get the tharn to them, which should never happen. Where should I put my MHAs or whatever other solos I can fit?
