That's not true. Nobody can pirate Vita games yet so I'd say pirates are hurt the most. You can say that once pirates are successfully pirating vita games.

The system hasn't even been out a month yet. I think it's less piracy and more "buy/rent videos and music off of the PSN Store." Media transfer to/from the Vita is a huge pain in the rear end and it's no less ridiculous than having to buy the overpriced flash memory.

I finally saw a commercial for the Vita last week. On one hand, I really like the asynchronous gameplay in games like Dynasty Warriors because my internet access is atrocious, but the commercial is awfully misleading. I'm glad I saved the $50 and just got a WiFi model because having to pay for a data package just for leaderboard updates is dumb, especially considering it will update just as well as soon as you're connected to a hotspot.

Lately, I've been playing Dissidia 012. I just got to the first chapter where you can choose your own party and the game has turned into a grindfest. It's not bad, but I'm almost limited to playing only on calendar bonus days until I can rack up enough PP to get the extra calendar bonuses. I can play any day, but why spend three hours grinding when I can just wait until Tuesday and make the same amount of headway in fifteen minutes? I think maybe it's time to finally try out Shinobido since I bought it a couple of weeks ago and haven't even opened it yet.

HOLD ON HOLD ON I JUST SAW SOMETHING GREAT ON INSTANT FEEDBACK!!! Wait, where did it go....oh it's gone now...ever shit on the beach?

I've been agonizing over getting either Unit 13 or UMvC3 on PSN all day today.

Unit 13 seems to be getting some really mixed feedback with some people going as far as saying it's actually pretty bad in a typical "people will buy any poo poo a fortnight after a console release" fashion.

UMvC3 seems to be seen as a good port but i'm not sure i want to spend €45 on a fighting game that has an online mode that is allegedly dominated by poopsockers. I play games for fun, not to get pantsed by people who learn invincibility frames off by heart.

Personally, I would go with Hot Shots. Lumines is certainly fun, but it would do much better as a $20 game. $40 is just too much for it. Hot Shots, as you said, has more variety and will hold your attention for longer sessions.

Basically. Unless you play against goons anyone you encounter in a fighting game online will fall into one of two groups:

1) They button mash and repeat the same one move/combo over and over again. You'll destroy them without it being fun and since they're not winning they'll ragequit before the match ends anyway while cursing you out.
2) They poopsock and repeat the same one move/combo over and over again. They'll destroy you without it being fun and since you'll manage to hit them once or twice they'll ragequit before the match ends anyway while cursing you out.

Awesome that you're enjoying it. Feel free to add me on PSN (thetrin) and we'll play when the online patch hits.

If you need any help figuring out something in Japanese, feel free to let me know.

Also, don't forget to look at the section in the manual about job specific abilities. Some button combos let certain classes do certain things (eg. Clerics can heal with Sanctuary by holding O)

I'm about to face the Chapter 3 boss tonight, myself. Looking forward to moving into Chapter 4.

What job do you play? I'm behind on my sword master gear, but I'm up to snuff on my Cleric. (once you get to Chapter 3, you get the ability to change job any time you want)

I've heard some pretty mixed things about this game. The chief complaint was that the game itself didn't seem to merit the $60 (USA pricing equivalent to Japan) price tag. At $20 with free DLC updates, it seems more of a bargain.

I really want to pick this up but my account is JP.

I might buy the Asia disc version. It's $40 on Play Asia right now.

Does it affect the memory card in anyway or does it just only reset the basic Vita stuff? I need to know if I should backup the card on top of deactivating my Game content.

In the system format menu there are three options:

a) format memory card (it deletes all the data on the card)
b) restore settings
c) restore the PSVita System

I think the difference between restore settings and restore the PSVita System is that, considering that PSVita has some internal storage, the first only deletes the data that's related to the software that ships with the Vita, the second deletes ALL the data that is in the internal memory. I don't know which kind of software writes in that area, but I'd really like to know.

Restore settings also asks you if you want to delete from the memory card, if you choose no the card is spared from the wrath of rm -rf.

edit:
Oh yes, I restored the settings and then, after all the video and closing all the tooltips and manuals blah blah blah, to access the software on the card I just had to log-in again on the PSN with my account.

Policenaut posted:

In Japan, Vita just needs to get the software going. It's in the exact same situation the PS3 and the 3DS were at its launch. No software, slow sales. It'll probably start turning around for the better when the Japanese get their Monster Hunters and Personas and Phantasy Stars.

Problem is that 3DS had stronger hardware sales even without software and (3DS) piracy.

Not sure where you've seen this feedback, because the game is certainly not bad. The reviews have been pretty decent anyway. The game is quite good if somewhat basic. It's a solid shooter which plays great with the two sticks. No story to speak of but a decent amount of missions and locations. If you want a tactical third person shooter for your vita you should definitely get it.

Extend's pretty much the most recent rendition of the game, so you really got no reason to get another version for console until the next one comes out unless you want to get your Vita-less friends into it. So given it's track record, about six months or so. Unlike most fighting games Blazblue tries to make it's plot important (likely a holdover from it's original design as a fighting RPG before it got turned into the heir apparent for Guilty Gear) and if you want the full story you'll at least need Calamity Trigger, the first Blazblue game. (CS Extend is basically the same story as Continium Shift/II)

Blazblue is a fun game but the frequent revisions that usually involve taking the nerfbat to the current top characters and otherwise minor tweaks outside of the new cast additions has been sucking some of the joy out of the series, since a lot of the coolness from the series comes from seeing how the diverse playstyles among characters interact and play out and it's really painful to see one that was successful in an earlier version get completely gutted in the next (Arakune, Nu, and Rachel from CT to CS1, Ragna and Bang from CS1 to CS2, Makoto from CS2 to Extend, Carl repeatedly through all versions) although I hear Extend has dialed back the ham-fisted nerfmongering trend somewhat.

No worms on the bed!

Had some initial confusion setting up Music Unlimited at first, but it seems I've gotten the hang of it. I also installed it on my Android tablet to make side-by-side comparisons. It looks like the Vita one is the only version that allows offline playback for songs/albums of your choosing. I believe that means that it would have to use memory card space for that. However, it doesn't show these songs in the Vita Music default app, so I guess it's all self-contained within the Music Unlimited app data? This probably means I can't transfer the songs to my PC, but I'll try and dig around more later.

I like the Android's vertical layout a little better, because it's simpler to sort by artist/song name/album etc., and the Vita's is more horizontal scrolling, like Netflix. I had some problems buffering a certain song yesterday when playing it hooked up to a speaker, but it worked well after that and I can play full playlists/albums back to back without ads. Pretty cool so far.
