SpacePig posted:Try Legend of heroes: Trails in the Sky on PSP. It's Vita compatible, and is pretty fun. Ok, I did nab this. I was able to fire up the game for about 30min this morning. The gameplay better seriously redeem one of the most sketchy, weird opening sequences I've seen in a while. The opening montage seemed to promise nothing but the most rote of anime stereotype characters, too. I can forgive all of that garbage though if the 'game' part of it, when I get to it, is good. I really love the color vibrance that the Vita's screen adds to PSP titles. It's like a PSP 1.5. Shame they have no love or loyalty reward for the UMD owners, though. THE AWESOME GHOST posted:Vita isn't THAT powerful. Mortal Kombat is having resources simplified to get it to run at 60fps. Yeah I think KoA would be way too much without some serious downscaling of the environment. It's not impossible but it'd take a significant overhaul, much like if you compare GTA:LCS and VCS to their corresponding PS2 titles. I don't think MK9's going to have to get too much downgrading, though. I don't think there's nearly as much that needs to load for a fighting game, as would a full-on open-world third person adventure game. 5er fucked around with this message at Apr 19, 2012 around 15:05 |

flyboi posted:Is it wrong that I want to port an emulator but not release it just so I can have emulation on my vita? Nope but you'd have to find some emulator that was coded in C# to begin with ![]() Writing an emulator would be an interesting experiment, though. THE AWESOME GHOST posted:Vita isn't THAT powerful. Mortal Kombat is having resources simplified to get it to run at 60fps. I think it'd be capable to run something like Skyrim or KoA, with simplified models of course. If Skyrim/KoA were made to work with 512mb of RAM on the 360, then it shouldn't be a big problem on the Vita. It won't look as good, though. A little about PS Suite, though. I was hoping this would be changed in this release but it appears it hasn't. I really like C# and the API is decent enough not to hinder me in any way (except maybe for audio? They said they're making low level audio API stuff for sure, though I haven't checked if its in this release), but there's a really dumb memory restriction. You only have 96mb to work with, which you have to split between heap and "resource" memory. Resource memory includes video memory (textures, VBOs, etc) as well as audio. This is pretty much the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. If that weren't enough, there is no sort of texture compression available. To save space you have to either use the lower quality texture formats or set up some color indexed textures with shaders and what not. Either is not a very good solution. I was excited about PS Suite because I thought Sony wanted indies to have some easy access to develop on the Vita, but it turns out its just another platform in Sony's grab for the mobile games market. I understand the restrictions are there to maintain compatibility across PS Suite platforms but I don't give a poo poo about phones or mobile games

The plot itself is very anime, but I find the battle system to be very fun and engaging. e: I honestly don't even remember how the game opened, honsetly, aside from Joshua getting adopted and the whole Bracer test thing, btu I also have a high tolerance for anime, so it may have just been incosequential for me.

I'm really fine if they have to make things look less pretty, it's kind of expected for Mobile gaming in general. They could do little brother releases for it as well, where it's not the same game but it is the same environment / style. But I'd really like Warrior's Lair-esque with the auto syncing saves and being able to continue playing on the go. I'm sure I'm just dreaming right now but if the Vita finally really takes off I could definitely see it happening.

Does the digital version of Ridge Racer still come with the Gold Pass included, or was that just a limited time thing? (I'm in the UK, if it makes a difference)

"Purchase the RIDGE RACER game today and get the RIDGE RACER Gold Pass for FREE. RIDGE RACER Gold Pass gives you access to new cars, new tracks and new music. Offer available for a limited time only, expires 4/30/2012" Silver Pass is available too, but that actually costs money.

A neat little surprise happened today in Hong Kong, as a Japanese PSN game that had no announced plans for Western release emerged with an English language version in their region. Nikoli's Sudoku V: 12 Gem Puzzle is now available at Sudoku by Nikoli V on the Hong Kong PSN. Featuring English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese language support, quite possibly making this the first "translated for English users in Asia" game on PS Vita. The Hong Kong PSN is selling it for HK$ 194.00, which comes out to almost exactly $25 USD. No trailers I can show you, but it's a Sudoku game so you get the idea. I have no indication as to when Hamster plans to release this version overseas.

Policenaut posted:Oh, dang. I got my Resistance games confused. I thought 3 was about the one where America is invaded and 2 was something else entirely. Apparently, R1 (and by extension R2's first level which kicks off seconds after R1's ending) take place in June/July 1951, a time when the US is sending some troops to the Chimera-infested UK and hasn't actually been invaded yet. Once the first level is done, R2 skips to May 1953, by which time the US has already been invaded. According to the official timeline that I'm getting this from, Burning Skies begins at the very start of the Chimera's invasion of America in August 1951. quote:Would you know if Burning Skies is actually stand-alone though? I haven't paid attention to much of the campaign media, just multi-player. I can't say for sure, but given that you're playing as an entirely new character who has never been mentioned before, plus the fact that this is a portable spinoff game that the devs know not every Resistance fan will be able to get, my bet is that it will be pretty stand-alone, with maybe the occasional lore-related wink that will enhance the universe for dedicated fans.
