NINbuntu 64 posted:Has this even been confirmed to be a thing that's happening? Both Sony America and Europe have repeatedly said PS1 Support is coming. Just last week a PS1 game in the UK accidentally went up for Vita, and there's built-in control functionality for PS1 games in the Vita itself. The OP has a link for Sony Europe talking about it in the Backwards Compatibility section. I personally think Sony's holding onto it for E3.

The Japanese are getting a metric ton of those bonuses. The idea, as I gather, is that the Vita itself gets the sticker and the thing on the screen is a wallpaper. I know Persona 4, Metal Gear, Hatsune Miku, and I think Legend of Heroes all have them.

Feel free to add Var987 if you want to do some MK sometime. I'm surprised how well I can pull off combos with that tiny DPad.

Why make memory cards for the Vita so goddamned expensive? Yes, I understand that replacing the expensive, proprietary Memory Stick Duo with the even MORE proprietary and expensive Vita card gets Sony more money up front, but I haven't made many impulse purchases for the Vita because I only have an 8 GB card. I would have totally downloaded Rayman Origins on impulse if I had the space, but I'm reluctant to give up a full gig on my card.

Space Harrier posted:Why make memory cards for the Vita so goddamned expensive? Well when you go with proprietary memory cards you have to add your margin on top of the huge fixed costs of setting up a brand new production line for novel hardware. I'm not sure what the attachment rate might be for digital games on the Vita, but I imagine it's high enough that Sony's making a dumb decision by making the cards so expensive.

If setting up a new production line is so expensive, they could have just used Memory Stick. I highly doubt there is any valid technical reason for the new cards; just an excuse to charge a lot of cash for small amounts of memory.

A 250GB hard drive is nice, but let's go bigger and better already. I'm going to wait until they get like a 128GB card that doesn't cost a small fortune and that will decrease my desire to randomly purchase games until it comes out. Luckily I just mainly play mini games.

Well they got internet posters to go along with "It prevents piracy!" for a while but that turned out not to be true at all, and just like the PS3 (that uses completely standard laptop HDDs for storage), the only thing preventing piracy on the platform is good encryption and internal security. If they had used SD cards there would've been an issue with their varying speeds, but it would've been a net-positive for the consumer if they'd just come out with a branded SD card and claimed any others were unsupported. I picked up MK and D3 this afternoon. I have sank more time into D3 cause of MK beating my rear end. I am not good at fighters still ![]() Both are a ton of fun. Basically, if you wanna slam some buttons, see some gore, and engage in nostalgia, get MK. If you want tactics and silliness, D3.

MK is fun and playing through story mode gets me good experience with everyone so I can pick a main. I am a little disappointed with the graphics because the cutscenes are done in the console style and then when a fight begins it will quickly switch to the terrible style. During the match it's not noticeable, but for cutscenes it is kind of jarring. Also, boobs.

Gah, why aren't the PSP Burnout games (Dominator and Legends) in the PS Store? I just remembered those existed and wanted to try some old-school Burnout racing on the Vita, but I guess I won't be doing that then. EDIT: Well, Burnout Dominator is in the store but doesn't show up when you're using it on the Vita. Giant Bomb is saying it should work if you download it onto the PS3 first, but a bunch of people on various forums are saying that it doesn't show up in the content transfer. You can bump the story difficulty down in options, and the game is pretty good about scaling things down if you keep losing. The challenge towers are where it's at, though.

All this Mortals Kombat talk has reminded me how awesome The IT Crowd season 2 dvd menus are. If you own it and never left the main screen running you really owe it to yourself to go do so now. For those too lazy, It's basically the MK character select screen with the dance mk theme ripoff playing. Instead of "Test your might/MORTAL KOMBAT! " they say "Have you tried,TURNING IT ON AND OFF AGAIN! " When you leave it running longer it actually goes into sprite character versions of each character in fights with each other, Renholm almost always nut punches whoever he is fighting. The first time I saw it in must have watched the menus for like 30 minutes before actually watching an episode. Just the thought went into the menus is awesome.

If you already have a Vita and you have any interest in fighting games at all, for the love of god buy Mortal Kombat. The graphics aren't the greatest, but it's hard to notice it in action, and it has some of the best use of the touchscreen I've ever seen. There's fruit ninja with organs and severed heads. You can do touchscreen fatalities super easily, and there's a TON of single-player content if you can't get online. The Vita's D-pad is absolutely fantastic and it makes the game control really, really well. I just wish it wasn't such a battery vampire.
