The NC error on adding funds in PSN with a credit card seems to be fixed, as I just bought Wipeout. Fantastic game and I'm still in awe at the graphics on this thing and the speed. I'm also always endlessly entertained by racing games that have a first person mode. It even rotates if you do a barrel roll!

IRSmurf posted:That's awful. I must try it out. Is that a private chat or a public status update? Wandle Cax posted:Can anyone give me some cornering tips for wipeout, like when and how to effectively use the air brake? I think the same rules for car racing games apply to wipeout. Or course physics and so timing, aiming and speeds are all different, but the main concepts (take the external side of the curve, slow down, hit the apex, push on the accelerator to exit the curve) should apply. Thus said: First use the airbrake, then turn with the stick. Airbrakes are to be used in sharp turns, and when you arrive with a too high speed. For example, in Empire Climb, you don't need the airbrake to enter the first "shortcut"[1] because you arrive already at the best angle possible if you simply follow the same line of the long first turn, but you need to use the airbrake at the sharp turn in the middle of it (before the exit with the boosters). Probably in class A+ you will also be asked to stop accelerating, but if you have already unlocked time trial, you can feel the differences. [1] the second shortcut instead, the one before the steep climb, requires more ability to the player to enter and drive it.

Wandle Cax posted:Can anyone give me some cornering tips for wipeout, like when and how to effectively use the air brake? I tend to 'tap' the analog stick and the airbrakes for most turns. There's very few instances in the game where you need to hold the airbrakes for the entire duration of a turn, but you'll know those corners when you see them. Much skill in Wipeout just comes from memorization of a course, and then using that knowledge to position yourself in such a way to cut the sharper turns as tightly as possible. You start off with the Feisar Speed, and it is pretty damned maneuverable for the speed class, so unlike my current preferred craft (Pirhana Speed), the airbrakes are going to make you feel like you swerve super violently around the track even on the straights, while I need to constantly be feathering them just to throw my craft into position for the next curve. Notice how when you turn with the analog AND use the airbrakes, the tail of your craft tends swing out? Try to avoid that on the less complex or sharp curves and corners. Feathering the brakes is better a lot of the time...but at the same time this can also help set you up on the tough turns or even be used to swing you around obstacles or other ships. Basically, you're just going to have to practice until you're used to the feel of the vehicle you've chosen, and have committed the tracks to rough memory. The first time on any course is the worst, because you're trying to react to turns as opposed to anticipating them well in advance. You want to barrel roll as much as you can get away with. Get in the habit of tapping left-right-left (or right-left-right) whenever you catch sufficient air, the speed boost from a successful roll is a big help for time trials. Watch for alternate routes. They aren't necessarily huge shortcuts (unless you hit as many available boost pads on that route, or use a speed boost weapon), but these can cut down your lap times, as well as provide additional means for you to kill other contenders. I'm hardly the best player at the game though, so maybe someone else can chip in a few extra hints. limaCAT posted:Probably in class A+ you will also be asked to stop accelerating, but if you have already unlocked time trial, you can feel the differences. In my experience, the A+ challenge races so far haven't been 'winnable' if I ever stopped accelerating. They're basically 10 lap endurance races that demand you hit as many boost pads as possible, barrel roll at every opportunity, cut every corner as tight as possible, collect every damned power up, and hope you get a lot of auto-pilot items. The AI cheats ridiculously hard as is, being able to shove you around easily with little penalty to their own speed, are ungodly accurate with any and all weapons, and never, ever, ever screw up on turns in such a way that you can exploit those mistakes with straight up racing technique. fivegears4reverse fucked around with this message at Mar 3, 2012 around 09:51 |

In addition to everything said above, the simplest tip I can offer on using the airbrakes is to just tap the airbreak in the right direction before you start to turn the corner. I use the Wipeout control setting, because mapping the airbreaks to square makes no sense to me at all.

limaCAT posted:So it becomes the same as Pure where you had a small edge for winning if you downloaded all the free DLC and started unlocking ships as the Medievil since you had all those "fake" gold medals? gently caress this game. The AI also runs their ships at speeds that match you or exceed that of your chosen ship, regardless of the actual stats of their vehicles compared to your own. Even at A+ speed, the Pirhana Speed is supposed to be one of the fastest ships in the game, but they're running Agility ships and outrunning me on the straights, oftentimes without even using boost pads, speed ups, or autopilot. Part of me appreciates the sudden difficulty increase, because it really enhances your knowledge of the track, and so far every challenge has been beatable. I don't appreciate just how much of rear end in a top hat the AI becomes in the process though.

I'd like to hear more peoples experiences with UMVC3 and if they're liking it on the Vita. I have the game on PS3 and got seriously into it for months, but recently only ever fire up training mode once in a while to keep my lovely skills from rusting (playing online gets pretty tiring). My current job often leaves me with time to myself and being able to play on the go would be fantastic, even though I'll have to get use to the Vita controls. Normally I'm a pad player, so I don't expect the change to be overly difficult. My PSP got a ton of use thanks to Tekken and I never really got into those games on console. Marvel is a big pull, but also future titles like SFxT and MK have me really, really interested. I heard they're able to transfer over all the content/mechanics from their respective console versions without losing anything, which almost sounds too good to be true.
