for a while I was really addicted to this game despite the awful playerbase, I booted the game up a little while and tried to get in solo queue and I just kinda forgot I had it open searching for games.
This eventually happened before I shut it down and uninstalled the game:

I guess it wasn't bad enough that almost no one plays the game and the ones who do are terrible. But with 200+ people playing I saw no reason to have not found a game in over 2 hours.

I ended up making a new account and for some reason found a game within 5 minutes with that one. I wasn't banned or anything, the game just decided not to work with me that day, or maybe it has something to do with how queues work I don't know.

So you waited 2+ hours, quit, uninstalled the game - then started a new account and found a game in 5 minutes?

I've been playing this again with a friend and you generally either smash the absolute gently caress out of clueless people, or get stuck with them. There's rarely a middle ground... aka same as always. It's still pretty fun though, and I don't get bad queue times, usually instant to a couple minutes if I'm grouped.

I just had like a 46 kill game as Support. His shotgun is already nuts now with the buff it got at one point, but I had all the buffs purchased, bacon, chicky dead, and was levels above the other team at this point. I was critting bots with the shotgun for like over 3000 or something nuts, players were dead in just a few shots if I was close enough, airstrike's would smack people for 95% of their health from full if not kill them.

I lost anyway.

I installed a third party non-steam client, forgot to mention that.

Yeah, I started to get real conspiracy theory after that, theorizing that my specific level was in its own queue and thinking I was banned and didnt know.
After reading this thread I booted the game back up on the account that I took this screenshot with and found games instantly, so I guess it was just a fluke that I know this game so well for.

I swear sometimes just quitting the queue only to reenter it seconds later makes it go faster. That, or some jerk is AFK with 9/10 people accepting, while the game hangs waiting.

Me and my roomie still play fairly regularly, usually trying for the first win of the day. He's a devout gunner, and I'm a support, combat girl or assault.

Just think of all the cool stuff I can see.

The playerbase and queue problems are one thing, but I still maintain that Uber can't balance worth a poo poo, which only compounds all of the other problems. Allowing Support to be both one of the strongest defensive classes and one of the strongest offensive classes is just dumb as hell and stretches back even to the original MNC. gently caress airstrikes.

I mean, the game literally encouraged you to taunt your opponents.
If someone gets really butthurt about the taunt animations then maybe playing games on the Internet isn't something they should be doing.

You're right about the awful community, but I'm thinking more like the people who say "we intentionally stack up people with super gear and smash pubbies' faces because that's the only way to have fun in a game like this"

God was a dream of good government.

Are there still people playing this? I still get the urge to play this every now and again but last I saw, the game's population was down in the low 200s.

I'll probably start playing this game again in the next few weeks. No other game has really come close in how fun this was to play for me.

I never ran into much toxicity. It wasn't great, but it didn't seem egregiously bad, either. Plenty of other games prosper with far worse communities. I really don't think it was a significant contributing factor to the game's downfall. Uber splitting the playerbase a dozen different ways with multiple game types and queues when the game was still pretty small but growing is the #1 factor, in my opinion. They should have waited much longer to add new game modes, and their queue poo poo was just disastrous. In a game that's based purely around matchmaking, it takes a certain player count to be able to support things such as alternate game modes, and they just weren't there yet.

The thing is, they could have added new game modes with no problems, provided they allowed you to enter matchmaking for multiple gamemodes.

Granted I realize this probably would have required a re-code of their networking/matchmaking system, but the other option is splintering your player base which seems like (and was) a horrific idea.

So, is this game dead? I see this "You are currently in a game, do you want to rejoin."? that hangs at loading forever, otherwise you sit in queue forever, not just long.

edit; this effects one my roomate's system, currently, and many other online users.
