I gave this game a shot, but the first impression was really underwhelming.

The interface was confusing. I didn't notice that I was supposed to spend level up points on my guy's abilities until I was already level 8, and even when maxed out, the assault rifle guy's little airdash ability barely performed any differently.

I was annoyed by having to go and grab the coins that fell out of the enemy robots, and I never did figure out how to spend money at the hologram upgrade booths. Shooting at players on the other team didn't have any feedback, so I really couldn't tell if I was doing any damage to them. Near the end of the game the melee guys would just run up and kill me in about 3 seconds, while I was powerless to stop them.

The art style and humor didn't appeal to me either. It seemed overly campy and "trailer-trash", like some Nascar version of TF2, complete with obligatory 'funny-ethnic guy' stereotypes for each character.

I understand that every game has a learning curve and I'm not supposed to be great the very first game, but nothing about the game really grabbed me.

Well, it'd be a wonderful world if every game appealed to everyone. But for the sake of clearing things up:

I am going to go out and assume you didn't read any of the material immediately available for new players, including the lobby message of 'READ THIS IF YOU ARE NEW TO SMNC'. 'Using' things in game (bot spawners, kiosks, the annihilator) is achieved by hitting 'F' by default.

The UI is slated for a serious update, alot more intuitiveness and explanatory stuff is being implimented to help newer players. I agree it isn't too good right now.

Coins are not essential, but are a huge help - and you can change stuff behind the scenes to give yourself an auto-collect coin vacuum.

Enemies have a health bar, and by default when you damage someone a number will pop up above your target showing the exact damage amount you are dealing. There is also a hit sound to show feedback that you are actually striking an enemy. If you felt you weren't getting feedback, you may not have noticed these things.

The tone of the game is largely unchanged from the original game, Monday Night Combat, just that there are new faces now. If it doesn't appeal to you, I am sorry but it really is a staple of the series and a big drawing point for the people who like it. Not to sound derogatory, but if you want something more serious, SMNC really isn't the game for you. Honestly it just doesn't sound like your cup of tea.

Eh, I find MNC to do less of the stereotype thing than TF2.

The gunner would probably be the worst with his Hawaiian surfer dude thing.

At least MNC's story explains the stereotype thing. Most of these characters are literally clones made up of the DNA of very specific types of people. CombatGirl / Pitgirl for example was made to be the ultimate cheerleader / mechanic, hence she is unbelievably good with machinery and attractive to boot.

And Gunner is awesome, brah.

I played with several brand new players the other day, who knew the fundamentals of the game but hadn't really found their mojo yet - and the loss wasn't frustrating in the least. We all moved to the annihilator at the right time, cleaned up pushed lanes, spawned bots, we just got beaten by experience. And nobody was upset. Afterwards 2 of them asked if we could jump in a practice game so they could better figure out their limits (one guy wanted to get more familiar with prop hop, and the other wanted to learn the arc on product grenade) And everyone was fine with it.

It's when nobody makes an effort to learn or work as a team that a loss gets lovely, like that 0 / 8 / 0 sniper at 9 minutes with 6 bot kills, who does nothing but sit in lane calling people fags - and when you are alone at the annihilator after asking in chat to help set up on it. But such is the way of solo queue. Team based games are best played with people who understand / value teamwork.

Yup. Yet the assassin commando rolls away from me and super jumps into the jungle with a whopping .5% armor, and sits staring at the bot spawner until something comes out of it (elapsed time: long enough to have a shitload more armor)

Zahki posted:

Having the whole team armored up is a pretty big advantage and the defender should be topping up Armor whenever they can. Chipping away at people who aren't armored and having them buy regnitols or run back to their spawn builds up to a fairly big advatage over time. I always take the time to deploy and build up some armor when I'm gunner and it surprises me how often my allies will stand right outside the aura instead of in it and getting some themselves.

Whenever I am CambatGirl'ing I always do what I can to keep my friends topped up so they can at least naturally generate armor (alot of us still run OverArmor) and if you are running from one place to another with nothing to shooting, having your heal gun out to apply itself to whoever you comer across is good stuff. A fully healed / armored gunner is a monster to kill.

Patch Day - Number 24

Highlights: Wascot Nerfs and NEW PRO MEGABETH!

Eber Entertainment posted:

Flaming Rule Change! Some people think that's bad! I say gimme 24... that's what I say.

New Pro Week! Megabeth has been added to the Super MNC roster! Megabeth fills the same Striker roll as Karl and Assault. You can read all about her below. She also comes with one alternate uniform if you want to show off even more awesome.

We have also managed to hunt down and squash two major client issues that accounted for over 70% of the crashes!

As always, feel free to leave us feedback at http://www.uberent.com/forums!

Megabeth
Primary Weapon: "Rocket Ma'am": Primary Fire: Fires a rocket that travels in a straight line. Direct hits will cause knockback. Damaging herself will push her upwards for a possible rocket jump.
Primary Weapon: "Rocket Ma'am": Alternate Fire: Points a laser that all rockets in flight will track to the target location. 25% of the recharge is consumed when a rocket explodes. Can only be used when it is fully charged.
Secondary Weapon: "Bearing Hates": Primary Fire: Fires a small ball bearing that ricochets once.
Secondary Weapon: "Bearing Hates": Alternate Fire: Grapple throw
Skill 1: "Dirby Disku": Megabeth tosses out a disk that damages, slows Pros, and stuns bots and turrets. Disk will bounce off of targets.
Skill 2: "Whirling Derbish": Megabeth spins around in circles doing damage and pushing back enemies.
Skill 3: "Shoot The Moon": Megabeth uses her rocket skates to damage the area behind her, jump forward, and gain a short burst of speed.
New Uniform: Shevil

New Rules

Actually getting the actor is only one factor; I don't know what Uber's audio recording process is like, but if they need to rent a studio, it could be that they simply missed some lines first recording and didn't get studio time for it yet. It's also possible that they simply haven't had time for the guy to sit down with the audio director and read off some lines.

Proper voiceovers are actually pretty time-consuming- you can't just sit a guy down with a mic, say "read this stuff," and be done in five minutes.

Uber has a recording area in their own building, and prefer working with local talent for one on one direction for characters.

While I don't think you're serious, this is a pretty common conspiracy theory. The reality of it is that it's a poor thing to do because all that does is reduces the amount of trust the players have in the company which is so vital to a free to play game. It would work a few times, but then players would stop buying new characters (why spend my money on someone who's just going to get nerfed?), and it would hurt the playerbase, as well as reduce the amount of money remaining players will pay (because they don't trust Uber to not screw the game up every character release). Not a good business strategy all around.

I love how people get so rabid about this theory, when the logic is a lot more sound.

The new character comes out and you must buy her to play her. She is very new, and may have some balancing requirements that weren't picked up in internal testing. People scream 'SHE IS OP BECAUSE SHE COSTS CASH' when the reality is the happy coincidence that the people who get to play her post-release and pre-balance are the ones that bought her.

It's the constant cycle with new LoL champions.

This.

The system is the way it because it is the way that works. It's the LoL model. This isn't TF2, it is a Shooter-Styled moba. I loved MNC and would have loved MNC2, but this is SMNC, a differently catered game set in the same universe. I am just lucky that I enjoyed League of Legends enough to stomach that system all over again as I progressed into SMNC.

I am really sad that all the MNC fans got shafted with the shift, and truthfully a better way of doing it would have been to make a new game without reference to MNC so that the MNC fans didn't feel so alienated, but UBER wanted to re-use their universe and if this is the only way for me to keep enjoying the style and characters they built, I am okay with it. It could have been a turn based facebook dating game, but it isn't. I think the gameplay is solid and the dev attention to it is reasonably good. Yes, some poo poo is annoying, but UBER have made a commitment to the free to play "Gamers control your game" model. They will update often, and they need to keep players happy or else their salary will die off.

Complaining about the currency system is a moot point, because there isn't a way to shift it. Complaining about cost of products/pros/endorsements however is entirely valid.

As for any pay2win arguments I definitely agree that products and endorsements do not make win/lose situations for teams but in my playing I think that just being able to have a second enforcer because someone bought one really helps pushing and winning team fights.
