The sequel to the thread that literally changed my life. I've been waiting for this. The last thread got me interested enough in D&D that I finally joined a group. That group led me to meet the first real friends I've had in years, who've helped me come a long way toward dealing with anxiety issues, and kept me from falling back into depression during a family crisis last year. It's been almost two years now since I last played 4E, and months since we've played ANYTHING due to Circumstances, but every moment hanging out with them is a blast. Oh, and every moment listening to these guys is a blast, too. I have a feeling this year is gonna be incredible. Just like that artwork.

Hey Medibot, if you're not trying to keep it a secret, what exactly did Miriam get chastised by the Church for other than a general lack of proselytising?

You guys mentioned both Gibnaf and Miriam are good at moving enemies around. Having never played 4th edition, anyone want to highlight what's pretty cool about moving enemies around? I understand there's ah...attacks of opportunity(?) when enemies leave melee combat, but I'm guessing there's more to it than that.

Being able to force enemies towards/away from people is a valuable skill in 4e. The basic moves are things like keeping a ranged enemy close so they're at a disadvantage, or making sure that the right party member is next to them to hit them/far away from them to keep them from being hit. But as well, this can inconvenience enemies when marks come into play, because most marks give a penalty for attacking someone other than whoever marked an enemy. So with a bit of planning and teamwork, a well-oiled party can basically: - force monsters to attack certain targets - while weakening them if they disobey this plan - so that specific party members (ie, defenders or strikers) are always close by to soak up/deal damage - leaving everyone else free to take care of their own roles in the fight without harassment Battlefield control is the core focus of combat in 4e. So of course, being an atrocious DM, a lot of my encounters do little to nothing to force this. I think I'm going to make something for this week's game involving wizards. Wizards are good for this.

I'm stunned. I just listened to people argue about the rental/riding costs implied of a (white?) wight-trampling elephant, who is owned by a a female version of multiple man, while the sneaky bard tries to finagle his way into an ilicit "poker" game with a group of gnolls. Do I have that about right? Also, why not just roll to hit yourself if you need it so badly? Or, ask the caravan leader or one of the guards to do so? E: for clarity? Cornwind Evil posted:this Kamer Rider clip whose context I still don't understand. Kamen Rider Decade is a show where the main character goes into the worlds of other Kamen Riders. The show mainly focuses on the Heisei era rider shows that started in 2000, with Decade being the 10th one, hence the name. It also included other shows, such as Kamen Rider Black, Kamen Rider Amazon, and the current Super Sentai show, Shinkenger. Every world is an alternate universe of the show it came from, allowing them to make things a bit different than their actual shows so people new to them aren't lost. The scene in question is when Decade goes into the world of Kamen Rider Hibiki. In Hibiki, the main characters would defeat their enemies with musical instruments; Hibiki himself used taiko drumming, Ibuki used a trumpet, and Zanki and Todoroki used guitars. Decade essentially is using Hibiki's powers to drum, and the others are participating. It's a shame that Hibki turned to poo poo halfway through, it was a decent show otherwise.

So in the last thread I tried running this briefly and things went a little awry, but I think I've worked out the hitches. There Will Be Pick-Up Games Specifically, I'm going to randomly announce times and number of players. The LP crew will not be hearing about them ahead of time either, they're gonna have to scrabble into these just like y'all. It'll be a random system (so not even a guarantee that it's D&D, much less 4th edition) and I'll be giving you premade sheets* to work with for speed's sake, as well as a "what do I need to know?" cheat sheet about the system in question. Personality will be up to you, the player. I have a lot of books around here, and I assumed I'd do some one-offs for people during the hiatus, but nobody ever really wanted to in large enough numbers to justify it. NOW WE WILL. Let's put the "us" back in "let us play" and get crazy with it. Also since I recall a lot of Euro viewers last time I'll try and do some stuff your time zone can work with. Y'all are cool by me. * Depending on system I may poll people as to what they want to be and make you something quick. Depends on ease of use.

Raruna posted:Just to make sure, you'll only include in your list of players people who say "Hey, I'm up for it.", right? Yeah, any of these sessions is going to go like this: I make a post announcing "Game upcoming at (time/date), gonna need (playercount) (any additional information)". Might name what system it is, might not. First X people to get to me after that post asking to play, be it in PM, IM, tweets, or this thread, get picked for the game when it comes up and I'll get them the necessary info/answer questions before the game itself. They're all going to be one-offs, not full campaigns, but I don't deny I may reuse a system or two depending on entertainment value. Also you should be warned I'm planning to record these as podcasts minimum (since some systems won't really have a "tabletop" to work with) for later posting. I kinda thought that was implied, but don't want to blindside anyone with that fact later. Syrg Sapphire fucked around with this message at Feb 25, 2012 around 06:21 |
