They cant afford to hold back on the Post-D3 release of Torchlight II. Max Schafer needs everyone to get back to work and hit their milestones for Runic's MMO if its going to meet its just after Titan release window.

And I dont think the earlier arguements about "those that cant afford D3, will get torchlight II" are anywhere near valid. Its a Blizzard game, there is nobody that would put off buying such a huge release of a beloved franchise for a mere $40 differntial. That amount of money means pretty much nothing to anyone in the developed world when framed as 100+ hours of clicky entertainment.

Not to mention all the people getting D3 for free by subbing to a year of WoW.

Not really sure what this means but okay.

It's a hyperreactionary reaction to the real money auction house and always online DRM/anti-cheating.

what did they do to starcraft 2? I don't recall anything bad about it, other than having to be online to play Single Player. But really, who buys an RTS game for single player?

"You're playing the game wrong!"

Lots of people do. That's why there are single-player campaigns.

Blizzard has made some changes over the years, but they still feel like the same developer that i've known since Warcraft I first came out. I don't think I can really say that about to many developers. All of the older ones are either gone now, or completely different.

But this is the TL2 thread, so lets talk about that. Runic Games is at Pax East this weekend, so hopefully some more new information will come out.

Runic did release information yesterday about the charge bar mechanic for each class; http://www.torchlight2game.com/news...ge-bar-and-you/

Not just new information, but I seem to recall them mentioning it'll be playable as well.

19 minutes of gameplay from PAX East. I'm loving everything about it except the very, very minimalist GUI.

Is $60 really that hard up for you? I swore eariler that people in your situation didnt exist. I guess I'm wrong. I guess I'll compare Diablo III to foie gras then, fatty and blandly colored, full of opression in the production cycle and out of reach to the poors.

poors

$60 isn't a lot of money, but shockingly people usually don't like dropping sums of money over and over again in a short period of time on frivolities unless they're loving terrible with money.

I'm buying it.

So am I, Torchlight 1 came out of nowhere and ate over 100 hours of my life and Torchwood 2 looks like everything I want it to be, but this thread seems intent on having me spend my money on sandwiches or sushi or caviar or pizza or some other bullshit.

There was an 11 year window to make a good full-fledged Diablo clone but nobody managed to. I will just write them off as missing a golden opportunity big time.

Yeah, except Torchlight. The prequel to the game this thread is about.

I'm okay with that. One thing that always bothered me about a lot of ARPGs was the fact that getting from point A to point B (where either points weren't quest hubs like cities) was a bit of a timesink.

Wanted to love Diablo 3. I was really hoping there was enough there that I could overlook the always-online DRM but it just wasn't very fun to me. It felt like the game had me going through the motions of playing a game rather than actually playing a game.
