I would gladly give Torchlight my money over Blizzard considering Blizzard has slagged off on releasing D3 forever.

Bear in mind Battle.Net storing characters means a much lower likelihood of encountering duping and cheating, especially with the many painful lessons of D2. Torchlight II, while still fun, is going to be like Diablo I multiplayer in that you'll have to play it with friends and only with friends (or people you otherwise trust to not cheat and break your characters), never with strangers, since as far as I've heard they aren't going to have servers hosting everything.

To be fair to Torchlight, Hardcore mode meant having an almost Roguelike knowledge of what different areas and traps did. I lost many hardcore characters in Torchlight due to seriously underestimating environmental hazards, like crushing blocks and impaling spike traps and stuff. When monsters are barely scratching you, it doesn't seem like a pointy stick would one-shot you, but there it is.

I still enjoyed the hell out of Torchlight, though, and if Torchlight II is out before a D3 release date is, I'm buying it.
