Rory Gilmore is so drat cool. I honestly wish there were more characters like her on TV. The only time she bugged me is the season when her and Lorelai were having that huge fight. Rory just acted like a complete bitch and so out of character. I also liked Paris, she just didn't give a poo poo what anyone thought. Has anyone seen the movie Postgrad? I heard Alexis Bledel plays a Rory-ish character in it. It was weird seeing her in Mad Men the other week because I honestly can't see her as anyone but Rory, and Rory should not be half-naked on TV!

hope and vaseline posted:Ongoing trip report for Dawson's Creek: 3 episodes into season 5 and I feel like I've lost all interest. I kinda figured they would all have to end up together in the same town but I didn't expect the reasons to be so contrived. Joey continues to be the center of the universe. I'm so sick of the triangle at this point and the constant revisiting. It feels like an endless loop that just won't stop cause she's a horrible character that can't make up her mind and leads people along. What is up with Dawson quitting film school after he had one bad experience as an intern? He's barely in school a month or two and he decides to give up his dream just to pursue the remnants of that kiss they shared? I'd stick with it. It is essentially the Joey show from here on out, but there's a Dawson storyline coming up that I love. Stick with it at least until Dawson goes to a film festival. If that doesn't grab you, then nothing else probably will.

I keep copies of every time Lauren Graham is on Craig's show, she's the best guest. Someone in the GBS thread said they heard she was a bit of a bitch on set, but it was probably from 'that' season where she was undoubtedly stressed through the eyeballs. I just can't imagine her being anything other than totally lovely.netally posted:Has anyone seen the movie Postgrad? I heard Alexis Bledel plays a Rory-ish character in it. Avatar was sold out, so based on nothing but the cast list we went to see it, and it was very average. I'd only seen GG in bits up to that point but still liked Alexis in things, but the script just wasn't that great. Michael Keaton probably brought it up from a 3/10 to a 5/10 by himself, he was pretty good in it.

I heard she wasn't the nicest person. When I was at a taping she wasn't around so my evidence is second-hand. Scott/Luke is super dashing in person though.

I didn't know about those cast additions, I really need to get into it (5 episodes in, liked a lot but just got put aside). The Luke's daughter was mainly last season, post ASP, from memory.

Not quite, it actually started early in season 6, ASP's last, it's basically what put a rift between Lorelai and Luke that led to her sleeping with Christopher. And I can't imagine how Lauren Graham can possibly be anything but sweet and funny in real life

Ah, I knew it was still going on at the end (I think?) but I thought it started maybe late s6, cheers. I didn't hate either last 2 seasons personally, not as good as the first 5 but still enjoyable. Maybe watching it in a massive marathon helped.

You know, smart, driven, independent, not defined by the men in her life, insanely impossibly beautiful, etc. I mean, she's kind of a Mary Sue a lot of the time but gently caress it, I don't care. Rory Gilmore is awesome. CJ Cregg in The West Wing. Starbuck and Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica. Alex on Nikita. Emily Thorne on Revenge. Tami Taylor on Friday Night Lights. Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife. Peggy on Mad Men. Amber on Parenthood. If you're looking for teen shows exclusively, though, you're pretty much hosed except for maybe Caroline on Vampire Diaries but she's a lot about the boys even if she's not necessarily defined by them.

I've thrown away more hours than I should have on this type of program, but gently caress if I remember anything about any of them. Except Everwood. That show had me completely hypnotized. The Rory of the later seasons isn't really the Rory of the first few ![]() All the Roryish characters have already been said in this thread, but they're not the same, and I don't think a character like her will ever be created as well as it was in Gilmore Girls. Postgrad was okay, I Am Reed Fish was horrible. She sort of plays the shy/introverted smart girl in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants which is an alright movie! And Parenthood does rock for Lauren Graham being very Lorelai-ish.

Sanguinia posted:Except Everwood. That show had me completely hypnotized. If for no other reason than that the chemistry between the doctor dad and the stuck up local doctor was magical. I loved Everwood; I've probably watched the whole series through three times. It was really a notch above a lot of the other shows in this category. It still indulged in the tropes of the genre, of course, but I thought the characters were all quite relatable and that the show actually had something to say about grief and loss and guilt and depression and how people deal with all of them (successfully or not) especially in seasons 1 and 2. I don't understand why it didn't catch on more. I thought it ended well--a little over the top, but no worse than any of these other shows and probably better than the majority--but in reruns it only had that one run on ABC Family while Gilmore Girls has been running for a zillion years. And I loved GG (minus the stupid plots in the last two seasons), and I'll concede it's probably more accessible for people who are just jumping in on a random episode, but I wish Everwood got more credit. It had some good music choices, too. Too bad every DVD set other than season 1 has music changes, but I guess it was either that or not have it published at all. Random GG note: did anyone notice how Rory was never, ever "going to college/school"... she was always "going to Yale" or "going back to Yale" as if the show had to remind us at every turn of where she went to school? Always thought that was a weird dialogue thing.

I mean, Ivy League is a big deal, and when Small Town Person gets into one, especially ON A SCHOLARSHIP no one ever shuts up about it. It seemed perfectly in character to me, though I admit it did sound a bit awkward on occasion, but then that's sort of the point. Gotta drop that name no matter how awkward. What's even crazier is that on the DVD's they managed to get "Imagine" in the 4th or 5th season, but they can't license a Paula Cole song? What the gently caress? Why does changing the theme tune ruin stuff so much? It bugs the hell out of me. When they show House in the UK it has some godawful instrumental theme tune for some reason. Oh and watching Married with Children is not the same without Frank Sinatra at the beginning. Daria is probably one of the worst examples of this. Probably because the grungy 90s music is what made the show so cool and gave it atmosphere. I wonder who writes all these songs that sound like bad instrumental versions of the original? It must be soul destroying. This site is kinda cool though, a list of all the songs in Daria. Brought back some memories! http://www.outpost-daria.com/episode_guide.html
