Cops are largely switching to vest carriers because years of wearing a 20lb pistol belt messes up your back and knees, and makes sitting in a car difficult (you don't need to ask how I know. I will say I am no longer in that line of work.) Polo shirts, BDUs, and baseball caps are magnitudes of order more comfortable and practical in situations where people are moving, running, climbing, and even just patrolling around than the old fashioned slacks, dress shirts, and ties. Most of the fancy new toys you are all bitching about are actually paid for by the Feds by grants and the like and sit around gathering dust or are used for PR opportunities.

Earwicker posted:http://www.theatlantic.com/national...-police/248047/ I especially liked this part: The point here is not to suggest that police officers in the field should not take advantage of every tactic or piece of equipment that makes them safer as they carry out their often challenging and strenuous duties. Nor do I mean to suggest that a police officer, once trained in military tactics, will now seek to kill civilians. It is far too easy for Monday-morning quarterbacks to unfairly second-guess the way police officers perform their jobs while they are out on the streets waging what must, at times, feel like a war.

FRINGE posted:Perhaps several thousand points of data by way of videos, anecdotes, and new reports? COTB was a horrible abortion of a thread full of a bunch of stupid hippies jacking each other off over how much they hate the cops, and this thread is just a diet version of that.

Trap Star posted:Whether you are trolling or just literally this stupid, thanks for letting everyone know your opinions are complete garbage and not worth paying attention to. You've done GBS a great service. No, you're right! I totally see it now! Re-reading all those threads has completely changed my opinion to the correct one! gently caress the police!

The Bible posted:I'll ask you again, why do you disagree with them? What data is incorrect? What is misrepresented? They don't prove anything to me that I didn't already know. I don't like the tone or content. Where is the thread about the good things that the overwhelming majority of officers are up to? Nice job editing that last paragraph in too, by the way.

Trap Star posted:Nobody "likes the content" of those threads. In an ideal world, there would be no COTB thread because shitheel cops would properly do their job and not abuse the poo poo out of the power bestowed upon them. Idiots like you see it as a bunch of hippies complaining and not the legitimate complaints that actually make up the content of the thread you despise so much. Any other stupid comments I can address? One good turn deserves another! Also, "hippies complaining" and "legitimate complaints" are not mutually exclusive.

Trap Star posted:Yes so surely those 20 threads full of police misconduct are just exaggerations and falsifications. Your meaningless anecdotal evidence sure disproves all the evidence that this problem exists and is widespread throughout america. Why are you still arguing with me? I'm done with you. My "meaningless anecdotal evidence" is personal experience, you dumb gently caress. Misconduct does happen, but it is not representative of the LE community as a whole.
