Hey guys, I Was wondering if you baseball goons could help me out with a question. My gf is a huge baseball fan, and she wants to watch some baseball with me. Now, I am a huge sports fan, but its mostly regulated to football and basketball. I played baseball for 16 years, and after finishing was just kind of over it. I haven't watched a baseball game on TV since like 2005. Now my gf has literally a ton of saved baseball games on her DVR, and her brother has a bunch on his computer. What I want to know, is what are one or two "good" recent (last season or two) baseball games I could watch? I'm looking for entertaining games, and it doesn't just have to be crazy hits and home runs all the time. I used to play, so I can appreciate an insane pitching performance, or a low-scorer where the teams go back and forth, or an intense rivalry game (Red Sox/ Yankee's?) as well.

For example, if someone asked me to recommend a football game for someone to watch who hasn't seen the sport in a while, I'd probably go with the Texas-USC Rose Bowl, the 49ers-Saints playoff game from this year, or one of the many Brady-Manning match-ups from the last few years.

So, If I could get a handful of recommendations in case she doesn't have the specific one ya'll recommend that would be most appreciated.

edit: Please don't post who wins. I'll rewatch anything if I don't know the score, but knowing who wins defeats the whole purpose for me.

We've had this discussion a few times before, but I don't remember which thread it was in the last time so I'll just post mine.

If you want to go back to 2009, I always recommend the AL Central tiebreaker between the Tigers and Twins. If you can watch two games at the same time, then the Red Sox-Orioles and Rays-Yankees games from the last day of the 2011 season.

Might be kind of random but game 1 of the 2000 World Series was dramatic as hell and ridiculously entertaining. Paul O'Neill's 10 pitch walk in the 9th is one of my favorite PAs ever. It's a shame YES doesn't show it when they air it on Yankee Classics.

The Clemens/Pedro 2-0 Red Sox win was also amazing. Anybody remember exactly when that was? If I remember correctly it was 0-0 going into the 9th. Clemens gave up a 2 run bomb. Pedro worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the 9th to win it.

Cardinals/Mets game 7 of the 2006 NLCS was highly entertaining. Take the bat of your shoulder, Carlos.

If you make the DH rule ubiquitous how are we going to have scenarios where Wilson Valdez, Phillies legend, is the winning pitcher after 19 innings

We should just call home runs Valdez's now since he and the Babe are forever linked.

e; Oh and I vote for the game 2 2008 NLDS game @ Philadelphia v. Brewers when CC walks Brett Meyers and give up a grand slam to Victorino. Actually, this is just another absurd instance where a pitcher does some stupid crap at the plate again.

Well, if you remove the DH, then the pitcher has to hit. Fear not, there will be plenty of opportunities for managers to run amok.

^^ You can pinch hit for the DH without losing it, you just can't move him to another position.

You're not going far enough. Let Miguel Cabrera be the all-time batter, and as soon as he hits the ball, a little fast guy starts running to first base. Then Cabrera bats again.

It wasn't just the Ramos trade that makes me hate Smith and the Twins' front office, it was their undying devotion to giving him every opportunity possible to redeem himself and not make them look like morons.

It's amazing what my one project management class taught me about how lovely MLB front offices are.

I was watching the Twins/Rays game on Tuesday and I was so irrationally angry when Capps came out, because he did exactly what I knew he was going to do: immediately put two runners into scoring position and spend the rest of the inning trying to work around them. He's not even a good reliever, let alone closer. He melts down in spectacular fashion.

The best way to watch this game is to synch it up with the Yankees @ Rays on the same day in the chronological order in which the games occurred. So you start the Red Sox game, then the Rays game, then make sure not to skip through the rain delay in the Red Sox game so that you can see both games end within a few minutes of each other.

Unless you're a Cardinals fan, I'd recommend this over World Series Game 6. Game 6 was only magical for the last several innings.

The game above was an incredible pitcher's duel in an elimination game. It's probably my favorite game ever.

Another great one in a similar circumstance: 10/1/2007, Padres @ Rockies. Since you're not a baseball fan, you probably won't know who wins this game. The 10/7/11 game is pretty obvious since you already watched the World Series game and know who's in it.
