I find it surprising that developers are still getting away with releasing shooters with no dedicated server support for the PC. But hey, if someone's buying, someone's buying. At least BLR didn't gently caress that up. Don't they kind of have to control that with all the leveling and gp stuff? Wouldn't dedicated servers let people mess with it and make ones that just max out your xp or something?

Oh we were talking about gotham city imposters there, sorta another CoD-like multiplayer shooter with even more varied customization. But yeah I sorta overlooked lack of dedicated servers on GCI after playing awhile, the netcode is surprisingly good from what I'm seen.

Neat little game. I don't like that I can be shot a few times without really noticing, but overall seems prety fun. Totally not seeing the movement speed complaints, gunplay actually feels like really slow pacing, but in a good way. Always being able to see the enemy is a neat mechanic and they implemented it well, based on all two games I've played.

drat, I should've bought more stuff then! I do love the new barrel though. I got the barrel that decreases damage but increases every other stat, including a large boost to run speed. It turns the SMG into a beast, I can quickly get within kill range then spray and pray to my heart's content.

Man I want to like this game but right now it's kind of a huge mess of F2P standbys that I just really hate, like renting equipment and charging $10 for a drat loadout slot. Really wish they'd just let me pay $40 or whatever and get everything. Also game runs kind of not good, is there anything I should turn off to remedy this?

Turn all graphics to medium, turn off depth of field and blur. Fully equipping a weapon (five parts) costs about 12 euros/15 dollars which isn't awful value as you can use the parts on different weapons but the downside is you've only got one build, if you bought CQB parts and also want a sniper version that's another four parts. Then you still only have an AR and a pistol so it's twelve hours of play or ten euros to get another primary and a decent secondary. At least the value per hour for playing is really good for a free to play. You get 150GP a match which takes about 10 minutes, 900GP per hour, equivalent of 0.7 euros of Zen per hour. Six hours should get you 5500GP, the equivalent of 500 Zen and enough to buy a weapon receiver. In comparison League Of Legends is 0.1 euros per hour. Chance packs are junk, I hated TF2 crates and these are worse. Carecat fucked around with this message at Apr 13, 2012 around 12:19 |

I really don't have any problem with the business model of Blacklight, really - you can equip yourself for a day by playing for an hour. Play for an evening and you're set for a few days or even a week. You also get a fairly good discount if you rent for a week instead of a day. You might want to consider putting some money down on your absolute standard go-to items (a revive pack is something I'll always grab), but I've so far spent nothing and gotten a lot out of the game, and I'm definitely not limited to 'newbie' gear at all.

Working solution for the really long startup times. 1. Navigate to your config folder \\FoxGame\Config\PCConsole\Cooked\ 2. Open up PCConsole-FoxEngine.ini 3. Find [Engine.PackagesToFullyLoadForDLC] 4. Delete it and all lines after it until the next tag. 5. Load the game and enjoy!

New map is hilariously stupid, the sounds of gunfire never pause Turrets maybe quite abusable with the constant gunfire/shooting to draw attention away from it. And one turret can probably cover 25% of the ground level.

I got to say, I'm really digging this game. I'm having loads of fun just playing random matches at the moment, but one thing I've been wondering is how many goons are actively playing this game at the moment? Before I decide to join up with my fellow assholes I want to make a query as to the number of goons playing this game. If forum activity is one way to judge things, then the number of Goons playing this game is at a minimum. Are my fears unjustified or should I be worried?

It's no Tribes Ascend goonwise. The game has a lack of marketing and interesting game modes until they patch the new ones in. On top of that the servers were lagging out for launch week.

Been playing a bit, up to level 12. Thoughts: + Every level up you get some free gear to try out for three days. This lets you see if you want to buy stuff or not. + GP, the equivalent of XP from Tribes: Ascend, is pretty easy to get. + Hardsuits are super fun. They go down VERY easily to anyone who knows what's up and buys a flamer or a rocket launcher, but if you get the HSV implant for the Hardsuit (I don't have it yet) I imagine they really are as OP as much as whiners think. + Overall, very polished. - Some minor stupid poo poo. If you're calling down a hardsuit and something breaks your LOS, like your moron teammate, the countdown stops and sometimes you can't even calldown to that same area without targetting elsewhere first. Very loving annoying. - Stats-wise based on the Customization menu, the best weapons are pay-only. Pretty lame. + Surprisingly, just changing out weapon pieces (once I got to level 8 or so anyway) generated a lot of different playstyle options. Right now, I use a hipfiring AR more than anything else, though I did buy an SMG receiver for certain maps. + The node system is neat. - The node system is loving voodoo until you google it like I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J8GdgdZqt0 if you want to know what the gently caress nodes are and how they work. In a nutshell: Temporary perks you can combine. Interesting little game. Wish I knew what level all the different items unlock at, and what all the items are; I want to buy some armor permanently, but I'm not sure if other items will appear as I level up. For instance, as far as I can tell right now, there's only one piece of armor that affects your Armor % as opposed to just HP, and that's a level 10 heavy helmet that gives you 16% armor instead of 12%. I want to buy that, but I'm not sure if something later on gives more armor; it doesn't look like it, but since documentation is not at all this game's strong suit, I'm not going to. That said, with literally only one item unlocked (an SMG receiver that I kinda regret buying) I'm still having fun and beating rear end. Rush hardsuit > collect pubbie tears > 3-6k+ exp per round. Oh yeah, some things I've found helpful: 1) Never unlock anything permanently till you're level 30 unless you're sure the item is the best in its class and you won't get anything better later. I say this because of the helmet thing above and because I need to find out if there's a better barrel and muzzle than what I have now; if there isn't, I'll buy them, but if there is, then I need to wait till level 30 (the cap) so I'm not buying useless poo poo. And there's a LOT of useless poo poo I'm finding out just from using my free trials from level ups. 2) The base Assault Rifle you start with is REALLY loving GOOD. Tone down its recoil when you can, get a holographic scope, stop moving right before firing, and people will die. You can run with it too, just need to get the gear to stabilize it. 3) Play DOM mode more than anything else because it gives you the most EXP since hacking is worth 200-300, so you not only get fast exp that way but you can also get a hardsuit quickly and just rack up kills 4) You CAN cap in a hardsuit, you just can't hack a point, so it takes longer. Stand near the point and over the course of maybe 30 seconds you'll cap (you'll know it's working because the circle will start to decrease the enemy color till it's neutral, then fill up with your color till you cap). 5) Hardsuit railguns are one-shot kill with zero recoil. More importantly, the minigun and railgun fire independently of each other, so you can hold down LMB for minigun fire while tapping RMB for railgun shots. This rips up enemy hardsuits, especially if their weakpoint is on the front. 6) Turn on your HSV for a second before you jump in your hardsuit (if you can) so you can tell where your own weakpoint is. 7) Combine nodes as you get them per that video above to get some 90-day +GP and reduced weapon recoil nodes. It's fun enough in small doses, but every match starts to suffer from slow down in the second half. I'd say it was just me, but I usually see people moaning about the lag at the same time. Having limited inventory space is a really strange design decision. I'm not near the cap, but I'm aware that every game earns me those node thingies that take up more and more space.

Got to say, I'm really loving the combat rifle + shotgun combo. The rifle will kill anything in one or two hit at range, it fairly accurate, recoil is manageable, and it has a pretty high rate of fire, making the overall weapon excellent at med to long range combat. While, the shotgun on the other hand is great for blasting anyone who thinks closing the distance is a good idea. It's a good combo that can pretty much deal with any situations, it only down-side is its very ammo conservative.

The burst rifle is the king of headshots from the hip. Its one downside is that any hits that aren't headshots do as much damage as beestings but it's so accurate that's never really a problem.

Carecat posted:Don't know where you got that. The only pay weapon is the heavy assault rifle but you can rent two seven day versions. Looking through the premades, I mean. Yeah, you can buy any receiver or attachment with GP (I guess except the HAR based on your post, I assumed I could since it said 'Award' implying you can earn it totally free somehow) but all the premades look statistically superior, dramatically so in fact, and are pay only, unless I'm confusing a premade with the wrong base receivier type; I'm not at home, but it looks like there's an Assault Rifle, not Combat and not Burstfire, that has something like 60 or 70 base damage, which as far as I can tell you cannot achieve with attachments. There's other weapons like that too (unless I'm misreading the base weapon type of the premades and thinking a combat rifle is an assault rifle or something). The burstfire rifle is so amazing that I deeply regret buying the SMG receiver, since that's 5500 GP I could've saved towards sights and stocks. And yes, the burstfire does 55 base instead of 50 base. I'd be amazed if they don't nerf it, because it's far and away the most well-rounded and overall powerful receiver (based on all ten or fifteen hours I've spent playing ).
