A friend of mine always refused to do the lay-up line before high-school games. Our coach usually benched him for the first half, but he didn't care. "Layups? I think I know how to make a layup, give me a loving break, coach!". The funny thing is, he had a shaky right hand, and no left hand at all. Yet he refused to work on his basics, because he preferred to hoist 3-point shots all day long. Also, he was our tallest player.
It's always funny when those guys on your school team think practicing layups is silly, then go on to miss easy ones in game situations.

What was Brad Lohaus like in high school?

I practiced and drilled jumping off the "right foot" constantly when I was a youngster (I played ALOT of basketball), and I never got to the point where making the correct jump gave me an advantage over going off my dominant leg (my left) and not having to think about it.

I understand there's a bit of an advantage to going off the correct leg, but for me at least, that advantage was completely out weighed by feeling awkward and off balance when I tried to change my footwork. Being able to use either hand effectively on both sides of the basket is much more important then fiddling around with your feet. Slashing to the basket and hitting tough layups was the strongest part of my game too.

And now the whole nation - pulpit and all - will take up the war-cry, and shout itself hoarse, and mob any honest man who ventures to open his mouth; and presently such mouths will cease to open.

Only if you are completely unathletic and jump worse than Zach Randolph.

It's a really easy thing to get down too. I can't believe people have trouble with it.

See as someone completely unatheltic now,the leg matters more. I had a problem where I had accuracy with my left hand, range with my right hand, and now doing everything of my left foot seems to have given me more range with my lefthand which is really important for what's almost a set shot.

I play in Adidas Sambas (because they're the best shoe of all time ) and I don't really notice a difference from the old beat rear end Nikes I had from a long time ago.

I love sambas, but a solid rubber sole? That's torture if you play a lot/actually jump. Kobe 8s are the closest a bball shoe has come to being like a Samba.

I feel like I should get some Kobe 8s since they are almost universally liked?

if you've ever had ankle problems you probably shoudn't. the traction and fit almost make up for the lowtop, but not quite.

This is what happens when you get a shoe shoved up your ass.

I really miss playing pickup basketball. It was one of my favorite things to do for a long time. Unfortunately playing resulted in a torn ACL that robbed me of any real athleticism and life hasn't given me an opportunity to get it repaired. But man do I miss it. Maybe one day I can put the high tops on again and relearn how to ball. Its so much goddamn fun

It's almost like wearing 300 dollars on your feet. Almost.

The place where I have problems is the front of my feet.

I was confused because I remembered there were good pairs for 140 last time I looked, but apparently that was only around Christmas, because right now only the ugliest pair is that cheap. I mean I don't mind paying for shoes since I get about 3 years out of a pair now but 90 more bucks to not be wearing ugly kind of sucks.
