I didn't realise this was so close to coming out! I have a few questions: Were you able to use the Steam Overlay with the beta? Being Australian, I'm hoping to 'trick' Origin into unlocking the game early rather than waiting until the 7th. Have people been able to use a VPN/proxy in the past to do this (with other Origin games) or should I just wait?

I ended up getting the physical edition delivered release date with Prime because I honestly think that with no preload I'll be playing the game roughly at the same time as the digital versions.

Would the VPN need to be left on while downloading and/or playing the game? Thanks for everyone's help with my questions so far. drat Origin's insane prices and regional lockouts! I can't get over how excited I am. I tried playing 4 earlier today and I found it unplayable, yet I LOVED it back in the day. I was spoiled with the recent beta

You're free to mix and match buildings from the specializations as you like, in fact, for some of them you even have to. Like you have to use trade depots from the trade specialization to be able to store your ore/oil/coal from the mining specialization. If you were going for a gambling specialized city, I'd imagine dipping into some culture buildings would help bring even more tourists into your city to keep your casinos busy. Edit: And while those 6 are the only specializations actually defined by the game, there's room for even more. For example, I think it'd be possible to build a city with a really big, fully upgraded University, and have students from all over your region commute to it. Edit: Actually, I might be wrong about that since Origin only downloads the SimCity launcher which then downloads the game. I suppose you would have space concerns getting everything in. But with regions you can have people living in other cities and commuting to you industrial super park or whatever.

If I can't troll my region by making my entire 2km landarea an array of solar panels, powering a sole mayor's mansion, and not selling the excess to neighbors, then I will demand a refund.

Casino cities seem to get a lot of talk, I know there aren't any agricultural cities. Can I have a wall street style city? A surf town? What are the possibilities? I asked this question earlier and didn't get any traction on it, but the game didn't seem to handle building on the coast very well, which could be an issue considering how many of the maps have bodies of water on them. Zoning near the beach looked like it left a huge gap where no lots would come up, and I don't think there are any water-related ploppables?

I imagine that that would be an expansion related thing, if TS3 is any indication. Although it took them seven expansions before Beaches and swimming in the ocean became a thing, so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Space Hamlet posted:I see, so they're discreetly systematized things. Would you say there's still room for creativity within that? Yeah, you could have multiple buildings from different specializations, including times where you may start off with mining and transition to some kind of high tech manufacturing or trade. Things like sports arenas are included in the culture specialization.

Add a non steam game to steam and link to the executable of the game. It will still load Origin to run the game, but you also get the steam overlay.

It was fine, took about 8 days to arrive though (melbourne) I'm glad EA told amazon to pull pre-orders, it means I now got a $20 discount instead of just the $15. Thanks Amazon!

Is there a way to pre download the game from Origin before its release? Steam usually allows that, not as familiar with Origin.
|
| # ? Mar 4, 2013 04:45 |

No. Origin will allow preloading on certain games and this isn't one of them. They allow it on a game by game basis.

^^^ Yeah, not sure why EA won't let people preload this. I mean, MOH: Warfighter I was there for the preload and I'm sure at the time EA was expecting gangbusters so they had a preload. This is without a doubt going to explode their download servers. I guess I'll play Tomb Raider in the meantime.
