Almost every line between Don and Emile was father-daughter related. Not a coincidence that Sally also is in most of the episode. When Emile spoke with Megan at the dinner table, it was pretty clear he had clear expectations for his daughter; same goes for Don when he vetoes Sally's outfit - makeup and boots. If Megan is something like her mother, then you can see her attitude is to "try everything; no regrets.". Something it seems at odds with her husband. Maybe it's the same view of Megan her father has of her - why is she putting all this effort into something (advertising) she probably doesn't like? Not to mention it seems like Megan is probably going to be a bit more aimless/stuck at advertising (Don said no one chooses it a few episodes ago). Also the age disparity between husband/wife, or at least Megan's parents were fashioned in a way that made it pretty obvious.

In a broader context, it's also something Peggy sort of shares with Don, since a lot of his former lovers have been Jewish. I think it adds to the whole Peggy-as-Don thing. Especially if she sleeps with Ginsberg later like a lot of people seem to think.

I really don't think I can overstate how much I enjoyed Roger and Sally's interactions. I think when we were all around Sally's age, there were adults in our lives, whether they were friends of our parents, or aunts and uncles or neighbors, who were just natural with you, treated you like an adult, let you in on adult jokes and such. Adults who you really looked forward to hanging out with because they were just cool with us. Slattery did that perfectly. You could tell just how much Sally was enjoying this little peek into the adult world that Roger was letting her have. This has been a really really good season so far.

You find out some things about them that make it hard to reconcile the image you had of them while you younger, and then as you discover them being an actual person. It turns out this cool rear end person is a drunk or a philanderer, or a cheat or whatever. Sally finds this out immediately, but I could definitely relate to having your image of this person you loved as a child tarnished as you find out their human flaws.

Has the show addressed why her parents named her Megan? It's not a French name, and they don't speak English when they're all alone together. I'm guessing that the real reason is that the writers didn't give Megan a backstory until they realized she was going to be a major character, but I'm wondering if any in-show reason has been given and I missed it. It just seems odd.

I wonder if Glen is going to be a bigger part of the show in the future. They've kept him as a friend and confidante and the scenes we see of them show that they're both growing up into their own little persons, and have made an effort to keep in touch.

This one was all about the characters accepting what was put in front of them, even if it isn't what they wanted. Peggy accepting Abe's offer to move in to her apartment when she wanted a proposal; Megan accepting the life of a copyrighter when she wanted a career as an actress; even Sally ate the plate of fish she received at the banquet when we were told at the beginning of the episode that she specifically didn't like fish. Even Don, who doesn't want to see his daughter grow up, accepts that one day, Sally will be wearing makeup (and probably more).

I think they are setting the stage for Megan's exit from SCDP. I think Megan's mom is going to tell her dad that she blew Roger in order to piss him off and get revenge for his infidelities. I think Megan is going to find out about it and that's going to be the final straw that gets her to quit.

Hell, he was already a walking time bomb at Sterling Cooper, and that was before he disappeared for a month as they were closing the PPL deal. SCDP has done a lot of riding on Don's reputation, and they might have to develop some more refined chops now. The part that interests me most is that we've had the aphorism that "when you don't like what's being said, change the conversation" thrown about since season 1, and now Don is finding out that a lot of businesspeople like things as they are, thank you very much.

Yeah, especially when it was served in the most gruesome (besides alive) way possible. She was adventuring into adulthood by taking a nibble anyway. Also I may need to rewatch this, but I think after she sees Roger and Marie, she sits back down and the waiter asks her if she's done with her kiddie cocktail and she says yes. Nice.

LifelongFan posted:The only reason Glen is on the show is because he's Matthew Weiner's son. The actor specifically, sure, but the character is necessary in that we need to have Sally communicating with some sort of peer in order to get more insight on her character. There's really no way to do that without it seeming potentially clumsy; it'd be like sitting her in a therapist's office every week just so she can say what she thinks about everything. Glen's a better alternative to that, and serves as a pretty good bridge. I probably don't need to overstate it because it's obvious, but seeing her friendship with Roger develop and go down the tubes is a pretty familiar moment for any of us I imagine. When I was her age I always liked having adults treat me like one of the gang...until they actually behaved as adults do in all situations and I realized oh, wait, I don't WANT to be grownup yet.
