As soon as Don told Megan he was okay with her quitting to be an actress, I knew it was because he was afraid of repeating the same mistake with Betty. It's becoming very evident that he doesn't want to work anymore and only liked work because Megan was around. Also that yelling match between Don and Peggy at the end felt very much like parents arguing over their daughter's bad life choice. "Pizza House!" and actual Beatles music made this ep for me.

Maybe it was saying something about chasing after her, I don't know. But I think we know what's going to be going on in this thread for the next week. Weren't people skeptical about Don/Megan last season? I think their marriage is much more interesting than Don and Betty's marriage, but that's probably helped by Jessica Pare's acting ability.

Jessica Pare sure as heck didn't expect to turn into the female lead of this season's Mad Men, and I doubt Matt Weiner had any idea she could pull off the acting chops from her few scenes last season. Really glad the storyline turned out more interesting than I was dreading.

I couldn't believe they played that particular song. At first I was in disbelief that they would play any Beatles song, just based on the cost. Then I figured it'd be the safe pick off that album, with "Eleanor Rigby." But when I heard that unmistakable intro, I loving lost it. I actually heard "Tomorrow Never Knows" on TV. Hell yes. Oh yeah, the episode was great. Rory Gilmore <3

I can't help but contrast it with when Betty briefly modeled again for the Coke ad in season 1, there she was just a pawn of the agency recruiting Don, and when Don shuts it down by rejecting the offer, you can tell she is a little crushed. She had no control at any stage of that process, compare it to Megan taking initiative and succeeding Although its interesting that Megan was clearly influenced by what her dad said to her in the previous episode.

Jeff Wiiver posted:I hope they're not going to kill off Megan because I think that would be kind of lazy and soap opera-ish of them, but if you look at the lyrics to "Love You To", the elevator scene and the shot at the end of the show where she's pretending to be dead, its hard not to draw that conclusion. I'm hoping it's just a red herring though. I don't see her as pretending to be dead in anything except how it looks. I think the acting exercise she's doing is to become focused on everything around her. It stood out to me in direct contrast with the gift she gave Don with the idea that he could be more aware of what's going on right now. He doesn't even make it through the entire song. Another thing that I noticed is that she's going to classes to become a better actor. Dick "Don Draper" Whitman acts every day of his life. I'm not exactly feeling it, but are we supposed to get the idea that Megan is talented at advertising? If we are, and an upcoming episode has her succeeding at acting too, then I wonder what that would do to Don. This episode seems like it's either the beginning of where they grow increasingly distant from one another or it's supposed to show that they're somehow balanced.

I thought this episode was brilliant in the way that people dealt with Megan's realization -- it's incredibly easy to take that kind of career rejection personally, and to see Don put on a brave face and even be borderline genuinely supportive was almost shocking. I was so proud of him. And then Peggy, at first being downright pissed and telling Megan off (and yet right at the same time about telling Don), then seeing how hard and brave it actually was for her. Man. I get that people think this show is slow, but the character interactions are just second-to-none. That empty elevator though...eesh, that was reeeealy unsettling. Pete is destined for that thing.

Haha, I knew this would be the thread title. I can't believe they got a Beatles song. The whole time he was putting the record on I figured they'd cut away before it actually started playing. Instead it was a backdrop to a great scene. I'm impressed. I also did not realize the insurance guy's wife was the girl from Gilmore Girls until I came to the thread. She's beautiful, it was very easy for me to identify with Pete's feelings for her (infidelity aside). Also, I did a little research on pictures of the Earth since the discussion in this episode made me realize how a lot of us probably take that kind of thing for granted. I assumed they were talking about the blue marble which is pretty much "the" image everyone thinks of, but it hadn't been taken at that point. It's more likely they were discussing this picture. I could be wrong, but the date seems to match pretty well. robot roll call fucked around with this message at May 7, 2012 around 06:35 |

I hope that instead of bringing in a new copywriter that they continue to use Stan and Ginsberg more, especially Ginsberg. He's awesome. Almost as awesome as the random appearance of Mr. Belding, who has not aged well at all. And as the resident Pete Campbell apologist, his actions this week made it very difficult for me to sympathize for him.

"Tomorrow Never Knows" is pretty advanced Beatles listening for someone who just warmed up to "I Want to Hold Your Hand" two weeks ago. I'm not sure Megan understands what a crotchety old man Don is.

I took a drama elective in uni and we did something similar -- begin with laying on your back, breathing in and out focusing on your diaphragm, clear your head. Then the instructor/director will start giving you directions, like bouncing your diaphragm to cause spontaneous laughing or crying, or lead you in to movement exercises. It's not about playing dead, it's about becoming more aware of your own body and the bodies of the people around you. Quinton posted:Yeah, that had me scratching my head.
