Genderfluid posted:If that had actually been the case I would have probably stopped watching and lost all respect for the show. It's all good until they just won't let it go and a discussion derails into discussing it. On topic: I've started re-watching from the first season since the finale, and I have to say I definitely think they're mirroring S1 themes and stylings in the final episode. It's nothing I can put my finger on, except to say it feels closer to the finale than any of the previous 2 or 3 seasons.

Propaganda Machine posted:I don't know how you guys feel about death of the author, but according to the AMC behind the scenes thing, Jon Hamm says Don sees something in Megan and decides to make her his "discovery," for whatever that's worth. I think the author's opinion and intent can be interesting and informative, although I'm guessing some people in this thread probably want nothing more to do with Weiner's intents and opinions after what he's said about Pete's encounter with the au pair, and Joan's intended reaction to the prostitution offer. I can't remember who directed those episodes though, so I tend to wonder if his statements pertaining to those episodes are less of a "this is what happened on the screen" and more of a "this is what I tried to write, before the cast and crew got hold of it." That said, some people might still find it repugnant that Weiner would write scenes where Pete succeeds in seducing a teenaged foreign girl and Joan responds to an offer of prostitution with anything but utter disgust.

I think at the heart of it everyone wants to predict something like this based on literally no evidence at all, so they can go TOLD YOU SO at the end. I'm sure it's spurred on by confirmation bias from that one unwatched show that did something like this 12 years ago.

I've been out of town for the last week and a half, so after finally getting home last night my wife and I sat down to watch the finale only to discover because of the poo poo with AMC and Dish Network that Dish moved the channel numbers around and hosed up my DVR schedule so it didn't record. I checked the schedule and didn't see any replays listed for the next couple of weeks so it looks like I'm buying the episode on iTunes tonight. If they don't get this mess sorted out it looks like I'll be buying a season pass for Breaking Bad as well.

Comcast has an option to record a show on any channel - Direct TV doesn't have one?

Something I've run into with Fios is that if I set my DVR to record an episode on "this channel only" -- something I do to make sure I get the HD recording -- and the channel is abruptly reassigned, my scheduling gets hosed up, too. Has only happened once, fortunately!

It might be that my Dish DVR is a couple of years old, but it when you set up a schedule for a show it only scans that channel number for episodes. When they dumped AMC down into the low tier channels the scheduler still looks on the existing channel number for new episodes. I ended up getting the finale off iTunes last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. Once again the music selection was top notch for setting the closing.

Comcast shows all airings of the show *with the same title* on all channels. It also has a nifty search tool for actors names and shows/films. Comcast's DVRs problem is, depending on how far ahead you are looking, the show's title hasn't loaded and that is a pain in the rear end because it wont show up in the search.

I watched a few Season 1 episodes the other day and it really is shocking to see how much younger and more lively Don looked back then.

I guess they're both aging at the same rate, but still, it's interesting to think of how a television series actor has to embody all the experiences they have had since they first started portraying that character. When you think about it, Don has gone though an awful lot to take the wind out of his sails -- affairs, suicides, divorce, business turmoil...

I just restarted watching this show (made it part way through season 2 last time, but ADHD and no money for netflix meant I stopped), and I'm remembering why I liked it before. The only thing I still don't understand is what the gently caress is the point of that arc with Betty and Glen? It feels like it's just supposed to be Betty freaked out by the EVIL LIBERAL'S kid

I also felt like Glenn was there to reflect just how incredibly childlike Betty's perception of the world was. The key scene being when he's like, "We can run away together. No, really - I have money, we can do it!" And the truth is that at the time Betty was barely more mature than Glenn in how she was perceiving her relationship with Don. At least that was how I took it.

All the Glenn and Betty weirdness completely pays off at the end of the season with the heartbreaking scene between Betty and Glen while he waits in the car for his mom.

So I bought L.A. Noire from the Steam sale and had been playing the hell out of it. I'm sure it's old news, but that game has half the cast of Mad Men literally acting in it. Starring our very own Ken Cosgrove, with actors of Harry, Paul, that annoying comedian from Season 2ish?, and even Pete making an appearance. The game is good and all the Mad Men stuff actually makes the game's 40es noir vibe even better. The game is on sale at just €7.50 or whatever amount of dollars on Steam right now; go get it.

Yeah they pretty much just photographed their faces and mapped them to 3D models: ![]() Because the faces weren't captured while the actors were actually moving around, it can be a little weird sometimes, but because most of the game is interrogation scenes, it mostly works.

It was genuinely exciting and stimulating for me for a good while, and the story at some points was actually quite riveting. Overall, a flawed game, but worth a play if you're interested and can find a good deal. Edit: I think one of my favorite parts was the music. Someone did a really good job on the scoring for the game. Check it out if you're a fan of noir or mystery at all.
