They're both partners, and Pete is bringing in a ton of business. He almost left before, and it was only the idea that he was a partner that kept him around. But Roger won't even treat him with the respect of a partner. And if he left now, they'd be under.

Pete will whine and pout to office people if he doesn't get his way. We already know that Roger will purposely gently caress up business just to be a petulant dick. Everyone knows Pete is right but they know there's nothing they can do about Roger so they're left to tell Pete he's screwed.

It was one episode, lets not act like Pete has completely regressed because of this episode. He was well within his rights to be pissy the entire episode because he's not being rewarded for exceptional work. I think we'll see him ascend a lot this season, maybe to a point where he and Don are close working partners. Maybe something like how Don and Roger were in the earlier seasons. I do wonder if the show will display Roger getting his act together at some point. It would be a waste if he just became a running gag, the rich guy in the office who doesn't actually do anything. His character needs...SOMETHING.

So, this is June '66 then, given the age of Joan's baby. The Goldwater in '68 sign in the Y&R window in the open threw me, I thought they jumped ahead three years. And then Sally sounding like Harvey Firestein seemed to confirm that, but I guess it's been less than a year (even though it's been two irl). Since it's been so long, could someone refresh my memory about where we saw Lane and his wife last season. I remember her going back to England and it seemed like maybe the Price marriage was over. So she moved back to NY then? Also, Peggy's boyfriend is the same guy from the hipster party that got raided right? Did they get together in a relationship last season or is that something that happenedover the interim?

He came back over due to lucky strike and it seemed that she was moving back over. Also yes that is the guy from the party and they got into a relationship after her lesbian friend had them meet again. /\ /\ /\ At one point last season he came into the office pretending to be a delivery man and Peggy called him her boyfriend.

Actually, I'm pretty sure both of them happened in the last couple episodes of season 4. I know for a fact that Peggy slept with Abe in one of them. And I'm pretty sure that Lane said he had convinced his wife to return to England, though she hasn't returned to being on-screen until tonight.

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but it seemed like they really toned down the amount of smoking and drinking. Probably a good thing since it used to be cartoonishly excessive.

No that wicked touchdown his father made. Also remember when he destroyed the chance to do business with Honda.

Yeah, I double checked and he mentions to the Cancer Society in Tomorrowland that he still smokes, you just don't see it for the rest of the episode. Having a 17 month gap between seasons screws with memory.

Man, was Harry always this big of a douche? I liked him the best for reasons not related to the show (met Rich Sommer once at a board game convention, really nice guy) but drat did I wince at his character this episode. It could be the 17 month lapse in memory, but I always thought he was a more respectful guy than that.

It's some instrumental version of "Ebb Tide." (i know that because phil spector and the righteous brothers did a killer version of that song)

I enjoyed the extra long episode tonight. I hope there's a little more payoff to Pryce being creepy with Dolores. I laughed out loud at his "the books are practically held together with spit!" "You're an old man, you just get to watch..." *booty*

Rusty Kettle posted:Oh yea. I forgot about that. Didn't he immediately regret it and become depressive after that or something? Yes he did. Harry's arch has been the polar opposite of all the other mid level execs who started off together in season 1. Pete and Ken are growing up after starting off as frat boys. Are they perfect? Christ no. Harry on the other hand starts off married, settled, and boring when surrounded by the other frat guys. I noticed the big change in season 4 where he was a wannabe playboy without any of the skills. It's like he's having a mid life crisis 10 years too early. He seems to desire the freedom that everyone else enjoyed in season 1. Yes, he had his "affair" but it certainly wasn't something he was proud of. I think season 4/5 Harry would be very fine having an affair.

If I'm remembering right, Harry was supposed to kill himself after the Carousel pitch because he'd ruined his marriage and didn't have it in him to be a womanizing creep like everyone else. Wiener liked Somer or thought it was too on-the-nose or something, so he changed it. It's mentioned in the season one commentary.

I'm really glad they didn't go with the suicide option because I think it would have been too much for the show. Wiener has said before that real life isn't that dramatic and that he didn't want his show to be either. But on the flip side I don't think Harry has done anything worth a drat in the last two seasons. I don't like how he's just the funny loser around the office. His character is on the same line as Ken's but Ken has grown leaps and bounds. I don't think Wiener knows what he wants to do with Harry at this point but can't find a way to write him out either. They should have left him at SC at the end of season 3, it would have given them more room to bring in a new character.

For the anecdote, the bizarre word Megan utters just before Roger, Jane, Don and her enter the apparment is "cālisse" - a French Canadian curse word so bad you'd never say it in front of your mother. I had quite a laugh at the jacket Pete was wearing at the party. That's a good way of showing how Pete is avant-garde, as those jackets would be all over the place in the seventies but very rare back in 1966. Extra popcorn will be bought next week to watch miserable Betty being miserable. I'm also expecting a Sally rebellion this season, so the popcorn budget is being upped right here and now.
