It's Baltimore gentlemen, the gods will not save you.

Just bought and completed my first run through. This game is amazing.

The summit was really awesome and I almost got my companion killed by being spotted but he still waited patiently me for me

Oh man.

that was an experience.

I went alone for the most part, everyone I met in the first half of the game didn't want anything to do with me until the underwater level. I met another traveler on one of those jellyfish looking platforms and we sat on it together and chirped before we decided to stay together for as long as possible.

I lost my companion right near the very end he disappeared after we froze to death, so the final flight up to the top of the mountain was very bittersweet...

then just as I had landed at the very top of the mountain, I heard a familiar chirp and my companion landed next to me.

very satisfying

I'd say the most amazing part of the whole experience was the music though. It really made everything connect.

Story thoughts: I don't think it is the same red robed avatar reliving the journey over and over. To me, it seems like each and every casualty of the war must go on their own little pilgrimage of atonement. One at a time. Well, two, counting your buddy.

Just want to reiterate how awesome this game is. Did my second run through today and still loved it. Ran into a white companion about 2/3 way through game and he showed me all sorts of great secrets and was a good sport about my wandering. Next I just have to find someone who will play with me the entire game!

Such a good game ;_; Found a companion about 10 minutes in, who was also new, and we went through the entirety of the game together.

weaving figure-eights with them as we surfed down the mountain with the flock of cloth spirits flying overhead was completely incredible

Just finished it. Wow. Wow. Wow.

It was kinda sad at the snow area. You get a glimpse of past glories. These people turned back the cold to build something amazing on the mountain!

Still don't know what was going on with the story at some/many points, but I loved it. I can't wait to beat it again.

I kinda felt like other players were intruders in my world for a while until the caves. Right about then, I found myself enjoying the company.

Like a fist wrapped in blood...

Really adored the game, and I have to reiterate how perfect the online system worked for me.

There was one player who was with me for a whole level-and-a-half who clearly was on his second playthrough and was showing me all the secret areas. We had major chirping contests. When I paused the game to answer my phone he also sat down next to my character to wait for me. When it turned out I had to leave, all of the ragequits of deathmatches and quitting in the middle of raids I have ever done came nowhere close to how big an rear end in a top hat I felt for abandoning this guy just to go grab a pizza. I felt such a pang of guilt I almost considered quickly logging in again in the slight chance that I would end up teaming up with him again.

I think my favourite touches are the gravestones near the summit, how they just drop numbers steadily as people couldn't quite make it.

I think one really interesting touch that I just now noticed is how at the very end, a few moments before your ultimate collapse, the mountain fades away and disappears. This has led my friend to believe it's all some kind of atonement/afterlife/heaven thing, where the mountain wasn't even real, it was a spiritual destination. It vanishes before you get there and you don't reach there til you die.

I got the same sort of idea from the mountain disappearing as you collapse. Just finished the game for the first time and was it good.

But listen: none of us was born to be an rear end in a top hat. I believe that very often it's not really the player that's an rear end in a top hat. It's the game designer that made them an rear end in a top hat. If you spend every day killing one another how are you going to be a nice guy? All console games are about killing each other, or killing one another together... Our games make us assholes."

I went to go looking for glyphs and secrets today and ran into a white-robed player when I was gathering up glyphs in one of the early areas. They gave me a run through of all the other glyphs and now I can pass along my knowledge

I got bored and decided to draw an avatar for myself based on the game:

I originally played around with having it animated. The red robe would turn into the white, but it didn't quite look good enough and just seemed as if it was animated for the sake of it.

They interviewed him on the Joystiq podcast and he said similar things. Most notably, that because there are so many usernames out there, you can sometimes very easily tell someone's age, gender and/or race, so if he even just provided the username up front when someone joined your game, you would still start making assumptions about them.

It may just be one successful game giving a friendly nod to another but maybe the guys at MM are thinking about creating Journey Sackboy outfits.

Anyways, when I saw it I literally went "Dawwwww " and had to share it with my fellow Journeymen.

GOOD MORNING

I just played through this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Like others, early in the game my companions ran off as I figured the game out. Towards the end, I did better, but ultimately ended up getting up the waterfall part near the end before my companion. I waited for a while near the top, but I didn't see him, so I pressed on.

Also, I love the Journey avatars in this thread and that Penny Arcade comic is pretty spot on.

I bought this on PSN knowing virtually nothing about it, other than it was critically acclaimed and 'arty' and it blew me away. The part where you slide down the sand, and the camera goes side on with the shimmering sun in the background was absolutely stunning. Some parts of the game are just gorgeous. I also loved the very end when you're walking into the light and the music starts to kind of sound like a bell ringing.

Looking forward to giving it another go. Going to leave it for a day or two before I go in again though.

April 11th, OST will be out on Itunes and PSN.

Yes, I know. It's Destructoid. Unfortunately they seem to have an exclusive on the full Threshold soundtrack. Also I realize Destructoid says the 10th but Austins page says 11th.

Edit - Hmm. Seems Youtube has the full track anyways along with some others. I won't link them because even though Mr. Wintory gave a nice supporting thank you comment, its essentially got an MP3 link for it so

Sharing my first journey. I didn't run into another person before the open desert. I was climbing a sand dune when I spotted movement up ahead. Having gone into this blind, I had no idea that it was another player. I waited behind to dune to see what would happen. The other guy did some impossible air moves and flew away with a carpet. This repeated itself once, and then I never saw him again. The fleeting encounters were weird, but not out of place with all the other weirdness in Journey.

I made my way through the downhill level and the caverns before catching up with another pilgrim at the base of the underground tower. My scarf had been cut in half in the caverns, and as a collector of shiny stuff, I felt devastated about it and had lost interest in looking behind every nook and cranny for more symbols. This new turn encounter was a welcome distraction.

He activated the first wall mural, and when I joined him at the second mural, it was blatantly obvious from the rampant chirps and dance that this was in fact an actual dude or possibly the worlds most excitable AI. This guy's scarf was nearly as short as mine so at least we had that going for us. We marveled at the flying carpet fish together and found our way through the temple out to the snowy mountain.

We trudged through the snow next. Our sad, little scarves running out of juice ridiculously fast even after we'd taken to heat up against eachother. Disaster struck while I was scanning the horizon for treasure. A machine attacked me out in the open and threw me god-knows-where. I lost my sense of direction, my companion and what little dignity my scarf had provided.

Feeling kind of down and more than a little confused, I hugged the mountain wall and eventually got past the second section of flying machines. My companion was there, lighting up the mountain pass with chirps like a birdman possessed. From there on, nothing could separate us. I felt pretty impotent with my sad mockery of a scarf, but he clung to me through the windy paths. We died together, and flew to birdman heaven together. It was awesome.

At the end, it turned out I had had 8 companions along for the ride. That came as a surprise, but it was still one hell of an experience. I've lost track of how many times I've replayed it over the weekend, and pretty much everyone I know with a PS3 has been told to get the game and to not read anything about it.

What a beautiful game.

I went into it completely blind, having missed that this was even a thing, outside of knowing about thatgamecompany's previous work.

The connections you make with the faceless, nameless other people you encounter is amazing. The singing action really helps. There were a few silent people who went off and did their own thing, sure, but with some it became this strange sort of communication that didn't really require any thinking, a patient "hey, I'm over here when you're done!" was understood. During the final stretch on the mountain it became an especially comforting sort of deal.

I don't know who I finished the journey with in the end, as I apparently traveled with six others in total and didn't write any names down, but thanks to whoever stuck around despite my repeated bumbling with the gusts of wind, the dragon, and faced the mountain climb with me.

Also sign me up as someone who had to just nab an avatar too.

Whoever changed my avatar, you're awesome, I went and posted in another thread and was like "Wait where'd that medic g-" and just kinda sat there with a stupid grin on my face.

In non-thank you type news got my 100% in the game, still did a run through even though the weeklong achievement popped the second I booted the game up, it's still a good game to journey through every once and awhile.

Edit: Thinking bout it now, what do you all think about white robes showing everything to single striped red robes? When I played I had a guy totally new to the game join me again and he was stuck to my side like glue (assuming because of white robes) and I showed him a few secrets, but mostly let him lead us around, do you think it's right to show a new guy everything on his first run?

I don't have white robes yet but I've been trying not to show things if I get paired with a newbie. I usually let them lead because on my first time, I was always excited to show my partners when I found something and I hope they will be too.

When I run across a newbie, I try to show them whatever they're willing to follow me to. If they seem like they just want to get a move on, I'll let them lead, but if they seem like they just wanna follow, I'll show 'em everything.

Usually I only show everything to the ones who've played at least once, though. For the first-timers I let them lead and just keep their scarves filled up and help keep them out of monsters' paths.
