How strange that nobody sees the wonder in one another

Fourth play-through last night and it's the first time the game has annoyed me, completed it right up to half way through the snow level with one partner and then he left. I went onto finish the game and didn't get the 'Stay with one partner for the majority of the time' award thing, surely by that point I'd been with the same person for long enough?

Where are you guys meeting all the cool people? On my first playthrough I had seven loving people and they all sucked. The first jerk just sat around and wouldn't move. I was having some fun with another guy in that underground tower thing but when we got to the end he just kept flying around and wouldn't move on. I couldn't see if he was doing anything constructive or not so I just went ahead without him. The snow part was probably my favorite because of the high levels of . I made it through with one person (I think) mostly but at the on the happy flying time part at the end I accidentally ran out of juice and got stuck somewhere. rear end in a top hat went ahead with out me and I had to finish alone. I tried hard to be cooperative with people, wait for them if they got stuck, etc. but I only got jerks I guess.

Overall I don't think I'm as impressed as everyone else is. It's a very pretty game but your whole experience depending on who you get paired with is a double-edged sword for sure.

Hopefully you get a great run with someone or many someones. The tower guy was probably exploring. There's 4 scarf glyphs, a history mural and a secret creature dealing with a trophy in that area. The creature is the "hardest" to find since it only unlocks after filling the tower with light. That and I find its a very fun area to just float about especially knowing whats coming.

The one person sitting about may have been afk. It'll auto sit if you use the PS home button and go mucking about. And the last part, just drop into the clouds if you are out of scarf power. Though that does suck about him not waiting. I am pretty sure you only meet whoever you died with on the climb and crossed over with so waiting for someone to catch up will mean it will be the same person.

The description of that trophy strongly implies that it only counts if you finish the game with them.

Collecting each of the scarf glyphs. Does not have to be in one run either, just have to get each unique glyph once. At the very first level (level select) on the right when you get to the main ruins will be indicators on what glyphs you have. It's basically the Transcendence trophy. When you get that, at the very same place as the indicators will be a group of white cloth strands. Just walk into em and viola.

You can also switch right back if by some chance you wish to use the red robes also. It's not a permanent switch either. Every new journey you have to choose to wear them.

I played through the game with one partner start to finish. We chatted with each other a lot and we helped each other find some secrets. Near the end of the game I hosed up a jump that sent me like 5-10 minutes back, and I was pretty disappointed that my new friend would probably leave me but 30 seconds later I saw him fluttering down to my side so we could forge on together

Just finished my first play through and got the companion trophy. Had a couple different partners all the way through, the first guy was really chirpy and seemed to know where everything was. The second guy was much quieter but seemed to be as amazed by everything as I was.

At the very end, he was a few steps ahead of me. He stopped and waited. We walked through together.

I have been playing video games for coming up on 30 years now and I am pretty sure that is the first game I've ever finished with tears streaming down my face. Hell, I started getting misty-eyed way back at the sunset sliding scene, just because it was so goddamn ridiculously beautiful.

I barely managed to still not be all teary-eyed when my wife walked into the living room during the credits to comment about how much she liked the music. I'm not sure I would have been able to explain why I was crying during a freakin' video game. Hell, I still don't think I can, except to say "Game is just intense, man."

This multiplayer system leads to some really intense moments. I lost the person I was traveling with right before the "Water" section. I was walking around, chirping and trying to find him, when that first snake killed the group of scarves.

That part was so intense without a partner to comfort you.

Anyone else having trouble finding a partner to play all the way through with while wearing the white cloak?

I really wanted to try to go through the game with one person. Everyone I started with, red and white cloaks alike, just sat down and checked out whenever I went to greet them. At first I thought maybe they were out to get the reflection trophy, but when I sat down with them, they'd exit the level or just wait til I left.

Eventually I found a guy named gamehi5 (but not that exactly) with a white cloak and we went the whole way. It was fun playing with someone who knew all the tricks!

But in the last snow bit a monster honed in on me - or so I thought, so I darted out from our shelter so his poo poo wouldn't get wrecked too. Turns out it was my buddy who'd been targeted, making me look like an abandoning rear end in a top hat.

Wasn't my intention, pal. At least we still made it through.

I noticed this as well the first time I was playing around with the white robes. It could be the other players were just looking for someone who was newer to the game, or simply fooling around. It will be interesting to see how the multiplayer component pans out as fewer new players enter the scene.

Now the wild world is lost, in a desert of smoke and straight lines.

Now I have the white cloak I decided I'd play mentor to some newbies. I started the desert level and meditated on the first ridge, waiting for someone else to enter the game. Some guy eventually came along (nothing on the hem of his cloak) but proceeded to ignore me, run past me, and basically act as if I wasn't there. I followed him around, but he didn't utter one single chirp. Didn't even hesitate or falter in his steps as he went about his business.

So, gently caress him.

Started another game, this time "hiding" beneath the ridge. When another player eventually came along I rose up from behind the ridge to surprise him. He chirped like crazy and started running around in circles, then stuck to me like glue until the very end of the game. I guess he'd played the game a few times before. I showed him where all the symbols and glyphs were -- he seemed to know where some were located but not others.

Right at the end of the game, before you walk into the light, we ran around in the sand, drawing shapes for a short while. Then we both meditated. I already had the meditation trophy, so hopefully he got it. Or maybe he was just making sure I got it. A nice gesture anyway.

Just in case it's not known, and it's a great feature, but you can actually tell how many times somebody has played the game by looking at their cloak; on a first playthrough, it'll just have one yellow stripe at the bottom, and the pattern gets more and more intricate whenever they complete the game. So you can adjust your assistance based on whether it's their first time and you should help them get the full experience, their second time and you should help them find the more hard to find items, or their third time in which case you both put on white cloaks and run around each other in circles to make your cloaks wrap around each other.

I love this game so much. It wasn't until my third play through that I met a traveler who taught me how to recharge our scarves in mid-air, sounding our beacons off in overlapping patterns to fly up higher and higher. He or she really wanted to work cooperatively so that we could both spend entire game flying majestically, shining with magic. It made me feel really happy that helping another living thing in the game was one of the best ways to help yourself. I want to play it again, even though I know exactly what is going to happen.

Now, if only I could take screenshots.

The hollow '+' shapes at the top of the pattern are the last addition (as far as I can tell, no more have appeared since) and you have them when you start your 4th run.

Hah, that sounds about right. My PSN ID is Retroblique. Two companions were revealed at the end, something like Apollo46 and another with a D or B in a name that was some play on words. I think you were the latter, because the former didn't seem to have many trophies when I compared later. I think I lost him somewhere in the desert and joined up with you on the sand surfing level.

Just played through this for the first time and for such a short game it packs such a punch. Absolutely amazing. I had one companion from nearly the very beginning, but I think I lost them during the first freaky spotlight snake attack. Found another companion right away though and we stuck together until the very end.

I tried to think of some highlights but... the whole game was one. What an experience.

Can I ask ya somethin', Padre? When I was kickin' your ass back there... you get a little wood?

Finished my first playthrough tonight. What a great experience. Spent the better part of the game with a expression on my face.

I was with the same guy for most of my playthrough - he had some decorations on his robe so I knew he'd finished at least once before. He helped guide me to some glyphs and to sneak through the underground section undetected.

We got to the mountain, and the dragon took most of my scarf after wind blew me just enough out of a shelter and into its sight. We found the heat generator and the little alcove above it - we sat and meditated.

When we got to the end of the dragon area (right before you get to that bridge where the wind blows really strongly), he sat down again, and I thought we were just going to chill for a bit.

Then he turned into dust and disappeared. I was disappointed that he logged out - I can't ever say I've felt the way that moment did, after all we'd been through, in any other multiplayer game.

I met another guy on the bridge; we trudged to the top and died. When we got to the flying part afterwards, I screwed up and ended on the bottom of a mountain while he took off (jerk!)

The ending is just beautiful. Journey has the honor of being the first game in over a decade to bring tears to my eyes. That poo poo just doesn't usually happen to me, but I couldn't help it.

Sonance
Oct 16, 2002

Now the wild world is lost, in a desert of smoke and straight lines.

I guess the "Journey has zero replayability" crowd get bored easily. For me, each subsequent session with the game has been subtly different from the last.

My major playthroughs have gone something like this:

1: Teamed up with a single companion (another newbie) for the entire game, had lots of fun exploring and encountering surprises together.
2: Teamed up with eight different players, made more of an effort to go looking for glyphs and symbols, but still generally had fun.
3 & 4: Made a concentrated effort to find all the remaining glyphs and symbols.
5: Got my white cloak and decided to help newbies out.
6: Did something of a speed run with another white cloak dude. Tried to spend as much time airborne as possible.
7: Helped a bunch of newbies out again.

Now I'm at the point where I'm just picking specific levels via the hub, depending on what sort of mood I'm in, and just goofing around, trying to get ahead of other players and jumping out to surprise them in all sorts of weird places.

I'm wondering how long it will be before the influx of new players begins to plateau and we start seeing ourselves paired up with other white cloaks more often than not. My only criticism of the game is that becoming a white cloaker doesn't otherwise give you access to previous inaccessible areas of the game. Well, perhaps occasionally, but there's no real reward other than, "Oh, I jumped up onto a column I couldn't reach before."

I'd give the game a solid 8 out of 10 right now, but I'd have pushed it to a 9 if there was a bunch of extra content for white cloakers to access. DLC, maybe? Some say the game's perfect as it is and DLC isn't necessary, but I think there's room for some subtle changes here and there to give veterans some reason to visit the game every now and then. It would have been interesting if the final level was a bit more sandboxy, like an expansive lobby that folks who've finished the game can run around in and do random poo poo. Perhaps with more than two people.

Even so, I don't think I'm quite done with the game yet. If everything stays as it is, I can still see myself booting it up once a month for a quick run through with whoever chances by.

One cool thing in the final level that I never see anyone else doing is riding the cloth dragon in the tiered lakes. It will take you all the way up through the gate to the final glowing ascent section, and I just find it completely awesome.

Just had my second run. I played through the majority of the game with another player, but I lost him at the beginning of the last area. I was weirdly devastated - I even jetted up to the peak of a cliff about halfway through and sat there trying to spot him passing by for a couple minutes. Losing him so late made the ending really bittersweet and melancholy. That a game can make a guy like me who doesn't do a lot of multiplayer forge an emotional connection with a silent stranger is pretty amazing.

I was doing some trophies (one of the few games where they're actually fun and rewarding to get) earlier and sat down near one of the more cleverly hidden glyphs in the underground level, waiting for someone to come along so I'd get the Mediation trophy. Soon after someone did, judging from their robe it was their first time playing Journey. They went in and got the glyph, we chirped about a bit, then sat down and got the trophy.

I joined up with them for the rest of the game, showed them the glyph locations I could remember, and stayed with them until the end. I also messaged someone for the first time on PSN thanking them for a fun game session. Going through this game with first-timers is awesome.
