I feel like I missed out with my first playthru. I didn't realize it was going to be a short game. I started out poorly because I was extremely tired (I started late), was abandoned by my first buddy because I fell down a long way and could not figure out where I was. I finally quit for the night, not realizing I was halfway done.

The second half of the game was fun, but I don't think I got quite the emotional impact of everyone else who sat through the whole thing in one sitting. edit: also when I tried for a second time, I tried to do a more leisurely pace so I could explore every nook and cranny...and wound up finding this portal in the very first level that sends you directly to the snowy base of the mountain with no apparent option to return.

Not worth a trophy to get shafted my second try

I can't wait to get home and try again. vvvv white robe player?

Just finished again. Fella and I were doing ok, we got to the dark monster cave area. He got caught once Then at the end I tried to say, ok, let's loving rush this but he stayed behind. Dunno if it was his first playthrough or what...I waited at the end for him but couldn't find him.

Finished the game with a rad dude who was patient with my dumbass and even showed me the Flow easter egg. Thanks dude Made it all the way to the end but lost him in the big finale. I waited a while for him to show up. Just as I was getting up to go, I heard a little chirping behind me It was nice to finish all the way through with a buddy, hadn't done that yet.

Also I think my robe may suggest that I'm a better player than I am...I still have yet to get any rad achievements or find anything cool. Can't find another player that wants to go slow with me.

Just finished one of my better sessions. Met up with a guy with a name like semiconductor. I showed him where some of the glowy orbs were hidden and he got to following me all over , even when I got us lost in the desert when I lost track of direction haha.

If you're a goon, sorry I lost track of you in that temple with the cloth whale, buddy. Hope you had fun with your awesome scarf.

This loving game though. I actually spent the rest of the game missing my first companion, despite him looking just like all the others I came across and me not knowing anything about him/her.

The final level was spent for me with a guy who deemed me a moving energy source and nothing more. He'd carry on ahead without me, stopping only to snap some energy from me before running off again. In the final scene, he was so far ahead it was eerie trying to catch up to him. I finally did, just in time to collapse dead by his side

This loving game man! It's given me different emotional payback every time...so far though it's always been bitter-sweet. I'd love to make it through a game with just one companion.

Wow! I got the white robe after a playthrough tonight so I decided, what the hell, I'd do a back-to-back play just to get a feel for the new duds.

I got paired up with a guy who'd played at least a couple times, so he knew where stuff was. We worked pretty well together, and had a lot of fun! I finally got to play through the whole game with the same person, and it was an amazing experience.

I went to friend him after the game ended. Just as i was typing my request, I got his buddy request in my inbox

I've never experienced a game like this. It's less like a video game and more like a beloved book. You just want to share it, and you want to talk about it, and you want to watch as someone experiences it for themselves. Not having to help the other person somehow makes it...I don't know, easier or more fun to help. The freedom to go or to wait makes patience easier somehow. I don't know if I make any sense, but this game is really something amazing.

Anyway I just played through twice in a row instead of eating, gonna have to do that now.

edit: also, remember how at the end during the credits when you're a shooting star, backtracking through all the levels? If you glide high enough at the right moment during the sand surfing level (towards the last leg of the second surf, I believe), you can actually spot a shooting star floating through the air, just like during the credits. I love everything about this game.

Anyone else having trouble finding a partner to play all the way through with while wearing the white cloak?

I really wanted to try to go through the game with one person. Everyone I started with, red and white cloaks alike, just sat down and checked out whenever I went to greet them. At first I thought maybe they were out to get the reflection trophy, but when I sat down with them, they'd exit the level or just wait til I left.

Eventually I found a guy named gamehi5 (but not that exactly) with a white cloak and we went the whole way. It was fun playing with someone who knew all the tricks!

But in the last snow bit a monster honed in on me - or so I thought, so I darted out from our shelter so his poo poo wouldn't get wrecked too. Turns out it was my buddy who'd been targeted, making me look like an abandoning rear end in a top hat.

Wasn't my intention, pal. At least we still made it through.

Looks like the theme all the high falootin ps plus subscribers got is for sale for the rest of us! Nabbed!

Also just completed my best session yet. I was actually getting really frustrated...in the first level, all the other white robe people ignored me (probably looking for newbies to mentor) and all the red robed people were clearly out on a mission and weren't interested in playing with me. I didn't even get a greeting chirp out of anyone!

Finally I resolved to just wait around for a newbie to show up who would be in to enjoy the game and might appreciate a companion. In the end another white robe showed up so I decided to ignore them.

Until they started chirping for me, like, actually seeking me out to play. So I said what the hell! And we stuck together through the whole thing! It was more fun than any session I've ever had. We both knew where the good stuff was so we didn't have to get lost/separated (though I think I may have shown him/her the flower because they seemed pretty enthused to see it)

We didn't rush. Just spent the time singing and keeping each other afloat. We stuck like glue all the way to the end, when we rode the whale up the mountain and drew hearts, stars, and attempted words in the snow before finally heading into the light together. By far and away the friendliest playthrough yet. I'm glad I held out.

In the end, just as I was writing a buddy request, I got his in my inbox. This game has introduced me to more nice players than I think I would ever have expected. Even as I think I've enjoyed it as much as I can, it's the human element of the game that keeps me coming back.

...well that and the gorgeous images.

edit: well i loved that tom siddell picture so much I had to av it.

You should play with willing white robed partners. It's a whole different kind of fun. One of my favorite sessions was with another white-robed guy. We both knew where everything was, so we just got to take our time and enjoy the scenery and keep each other flying as long as we could!

I've also noticed that I'm always to the left of the end level platform circles that start the cut scenes. Like, even if I'm to the right of my buddy and stand to the right of him on the circle, the game has us switch places so I'm on the left.

Is it part of the animation that you need to be on the left?

That's very interesting, a shameful boehner. I'd interpreted something similar, but without the purgatory/punishment idea. For me, the game was about learning and correcting past mistakes as well as one person could, but it was mostly about (sorry) the journey.

Everything was literally about the journey, helping give meaning to the journey, helping progress the journey. In the end, even the destination doesn't matter. You die before you get there, and when your spirit gets there, you keep journeying, walking right into the light - to shoot back and start all over.

I don't know entirely what to make of it, but your eternal lesson idea is very interesting!

I don't know how possible this is, but I'd buy an avatar cert for the goon who found a way to get a decent recording of some of the sound effects from this game. The monster roar, various chirps/whistles, cries, each separated enough to keep them distinct.

No idea if that's possible, but I'd repay you with an av, or even another upgrade, if it suited you. I think they'd make for some nice phone tones, and I don't know how I'd do it myself.

I think one really interesting touch that I just now noticed is how at the very end, a few moments before your ultimate collapse, the mountain fades away and disappears. This has led my friend to believe it's all some kind of atonement/afterlife/heaven thing, where the mountain wasn't even real, it was a spiritual destination. It vanishes before you get there and you don't reach there til you die.

When I run across a newbie, I try to show them whatever they're willing to follow me to. If they seem like they just want to get a move on, I'll let them lead, but if they seem like they just wanna follow, I'll show 'em everything.

Usually I only show everything to the ones who've played at least once, though. For the first-timers I let them lead and just keep their scarves filled up and help keep them out of monsters' paths.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but you can fall over if you get a little running momentum, and flick the stick back, up, back, and up again. You can stay lying down for as long as you want. Right now, I'm lying dead in the first zone to see how people react.

From a while back, but when you say "up" do you mean, the stick is pointing upward, or do you mean "up" as in "forward"?

edit: nm I've figured it out. I was gonna lie in wait for a newbie to find me but another white-robed player seemed really anxious for me to join him/her. This player is on a loving MOVE. They're rushing hardcore.

edit again: didn't even wanna ride the whale :C

So I'm trying to go for my white robes. Has anyone else had a hard time with this? On the sliding level you only get one chance to grab two of the symbols and its driving me nuts, 'cus if you miss one you have to start the whole game over since it takes away all your progress if you choose to return to the level select hub!

I feel bad for the people who where following me around looking for symbols, they seem really exited when I lead them to an out of the way symbol. Then I disappear, sorry guys.

I'm pretty sure you can just go back to the level select hub. That's what I did. I just selected into the sand surfing area and kept doing that til I had them.

I've been holding off on trying to play the game lately - seems everyone I run into is either not interested in playing the whole way with me, or is another white robed guy trying to show me how to break the game w/out really playing.

But today I had another great session! Met a player at the bridge, we went through the whole thing together and drew loopty loops in the sand

Just wanted to say a thank you to everyone who's still playing considerately.

I played through again the other day with a fairly new player. We met up in the desert and he immediately glued himself to my hip. Normally I'm a bit worried about spoiling the game for new players, but he seemed happy to follow me everywhere, so I showed him everything I could on the way, and helped him get all the trophies I could. As long a he seemed willing, I played guide.

At the end, we drew pictures in the snow for over five minutes. When we walked together into the mountain, we played silhouette games, swaying back and forth in a pattern.

I sent him a friend request after the game and didn't hear back for a few days. I was worried I really HAD spoiled too much for him...but today I got a message back. He was really grateful for the help and had some nice things to say about the game and our session.

It's amazing. I've played through the game so many times, but every now and again there'll be a play through that just really stands out and leaves an impression. Even just today I played through with another newbie. In the tower level, every time we lit up a glyph and raised the water, my partner did a little swirly dance and got tangled up in his scarf. It was basically impossible not to join in every time

I know it's not news, but I still can't get over what an incredible game this is for bringing out the best in players.

I don't know if spoilers are still necessary. If not I'll get rid of them, if so, here they are.

I know a lot of experienced players have been figuring out neat way to "break" the game - shortcuts in levels, getting past invisible boundaries, that kind of thing. I haven't really tried that stuff much because I enjoy just playing the game more, but in my last game, I was ditched by my partner in the underground room with the monsters. He sat down and faded away as soon as we entered the monsters' chamber, so I decided to try and mess with the game a little on my own.

In a previous game, I had been able to quickly fly to the little cloud of cloth bits that usually gets eaten at the opening to the second room after the hallway and save them (though at the expense of my scarf - the monster ate me instead, and then another one came before I could stagger off and took the rest). It was a fun little achievement for me, to save the little cloths from the monster and have my own little cloud of them, even if my scarf was drastically reduced

So this time I decided to try again only not to get my poo poo wrecked. As I walked through the first chamber where the first monster jumps out and eats the cloth guy, I hurried along to the hallway so I could get to the next chamber to try.

I guess I hurried too much. Perhaps the game didn't think I'd gotten a decent glimpse of the monster in my rush, because as I was walking through the hallway, ZOOM a loving monster flies at my face from the next chamber, scaring the daylights out of me but doing no harm. I thought to myself how weird that was and continued into the next chamber.

There were the little cloth bits...but where was the monst--OH JESUS OH gently caress OH GOD IT'S BEHIND ME IT'S EATING ME OH JESUS NOOO! The fucker sneak attacked me from behind, no red light, no warning, and in one fell swoop took a length of my scarf and made a bee-line for the cloth cloud and ate them too

Even weirder, when I got up THERE WAS MY PARTNER. the one I'd watched fade away with my own eyes. Same symbol, same plucky chirpy mannerisms, same guy - I even played through to the end to see if it was the same player. It was. I have no idea how.

It was a really, really surreal experience. I don't know if he's the one who caused the monster glitch or if I was, but holy hell I hadn't jumped like that since my first play.

Anybody got the collector's edition yet? I almost picked it up the other day, but I couldn't bring myself to drop thirty bucks on three games that I already own just for the sake of having something for my "collection," especially when I also already bought one of the soundtracks. Are the rest of the extras worth it?

Depends on what's worth it to you. It comes with all kinds of avatars, the free month of the network, and some behind-the-scenes stuff I honestly haven't checked out yet.

The "gameplay commentary" is basically a movie of you watching the creators play through their own game and talk about it, which is neat, but not what I was expecting. Still enjoyed it.

I'm glad to have it, but I hadn't bought any of the soundtracks yet either.

I've had trouble getting a partner to stick with me as well. I met one really cool guy who was showing me all kinds of cool stuff/glitches, but we got separated. We messaged pleasantries back and forth and then arranged to meet up for a second try at the game and it was a really great time.

Maybe we could have like a Goon Journey Day where we all get on and play with each other sometime.
