Plasma Shotgun will wreck Zombie Drones, but not the big guys. The red non-zombie drones are Rhino Drones, who are basically like ordinary drones but are confusingly-colored to trick you into thinking that they're zombies. Rhino Drones' gimmick is that they try to strafe you and shoot you in the back rather than stupidly standing in front of you.

I checked that out, and on the actual N64, it does seem darker. The fog is definately supposed to be white though. I imagine it's just the signal sent though the composite cables and the TV settings. But yeah, when you first make it to Tawfret, there's this moment when you try killing the enemies, realise you can't, then get a little uneasy as you back away while they start throwing their flesh at you. That first part of the level has this really great atmosphere, and you'll spend some time in the gloom trying to find your way. I also never found those tribals when I was a kid. Also, good news! Jewel just found this Netplay plugin for Project 64 that works really well, so I'll get a few people together for multiplayer sometime. Maybe the emulator issue is that your N64 is probably plugged into a CRT TV and you're playing on an LCD monitor.

Frocobo posted:This is something I have a hard time understanding. You get the flares in the exact same room that you need to use them. Why WOULDN'T you try them out in said room and immediately see the hidden jump spot? That room isn't exactly dark, so it's not immediately compelling to use a flare. A rather common trick to know with game design is that players tend to follow light. The player is very likely to overlook the dark area since they're looking at the actual detail in the room. It's also easy to dismiss the dark part as a dark wall texture. Another common game design fact is that players rarely ever look up, so players who do use the flares right away might still miss the platform because it isn't at eye-level. The player is more likely to use them when they've entered the trap door, but the extra brightness there isn't really that helpful, so they'll probably forget about them completely after that. Concordat posted:When you say multiplayer do you mean deathmatch or Floyd? I was thinking deathmatch, but I should be able to show Floyd off as well now that you've reminded me. Re: Floyd. There's only one really useful thing about Floyd: if you zoom in with the Sniper Rifle, he zooms in as well. Floyd has unlimited ammo. Aiming with the Sniper Rifle and firing with Floyd gives you effectively unlimited Sniper Rifle ammo.

I found a 30 minute video today previewing what eventually became Conker's Bad Fur Day for N64. For those who don't know, BFD was previously Conker's Twelve Tales. A much more child friendly and less awesome game. Apart form the video being really interesting because you can see how far they got into making the game before refreshing it all. If you're familiar with BFD, you can pick out all the parts they kept and used for BFD and bits they didn't use. SUCH AS THIS! So this suggests to me that it was previously a Conker song, not JFG. JFG came out in 1999 and BFD in 2001. I'm betting they were making both of these around the same time and then just gave the song to JFG when they decided to start over. Mush told me that it could also be a placeholder, but whatever it is I found it pretty interesting.

![]() What you'll need Project 64 1.7 AQZ Netplay Plugin Friends Up until recently, most implementations of netplay on N64 emulators has used Kaillera, which is passable at best but pretty garbage otherwise. Now there's a better alternative: the AQZ Netplay plugin. It's set as a controller plugin by the emulator and works by sending each player's inputs to one another. To run it, you need Project 64 1.7; with any other version (even Project 64 1.6) or emulator, the plugin desyncs. Here's a copy of the latest version of PJ64 1.7 if you don't already have it. You'll also need the plugin itself. To install it, all you need to do is put netplay_input_plugin.dll in the <Project 64 location>/Plugins/Input folder. To set it up, open Project 64 and before starting a ROM, go to Options > Settings > Plugins > Input (controller) plugin > AQZ NetPlay > OK. After, go to Options > Configure Controller Plugin... > Select an Input Plugin and pick an option. Jabo's DirectInput7 is the default and works fine, but the N-Rage Input Plugin is the best. If no-one else is using your PC to play, click OK and you're ready to start! If you want to have more than one player on a single PC, now's the time you need to set this up. You need to configure your actual controller plugin to do this, so go to Options > Configure Controller Plugin... > Configure. Set up the controls for each player and make sure the setting for plugging their controller in is checked. If you're the only player on the PC, you want to make sure only the first controller is set as plugged in. Before you begin, make sure you and your friends are all running the same version and settings of Project 64 and its plugins and all have the same save files (and aren't using cheats). Differences between any of these can cause desync. It's best to configure these settings on one person's copy and give that to all players. It eliminates the problem of other players configuring settings on their own and later seeing the other players walking into walls. To make things easy, I've uploaded a Netplay ready version so you don't have to fuss over setting it all up if you just want to get into the action. Now that you're ready to go, open a ROM. The netplay window will appear. You'll see a list of commands if you want to fiddle with them. You'll also see the number of local players. If there's only one player on your PC, this value should be 1, and if you have extra players on your PC, it should be that number of players. If you're the host, choose a port number that users will connect to the server with that other applications don't use. I use 6464 because it's easy to remember. You may need to forward the port so users can connect. Find your router's model and use the default guide on their website. The host should now start the server. Type in /server <port>. <port> should be the port of your choice. The other players need to connect to the server with /connect <host address> <port>, where <host address> is the host's IP address and <port> is the port the host chose when starting the server. There's plenty of ways for the host to find their IP address; even Google will show it to you if you search for something like "what is my ip". This site works well enough (though sometimes the port tester gives false negatives). If you're playing a game with hotseat multiplayer, that is, players take turns to play, then once the server has started, all players must type in /golf to activate Golf Mode. This mode lets the player who has control have zero lag when playing. When it is your turn, simply press the button mapped to the N64 plugin's L button. Server host example: /server 6464 Connect example: /connect 69.4.20.219 6464 When everyone's connected, the host should enter /start to begin the game. If the game doesn't run, someone might have the setting Pause emulation when window is not active? checked in Options > Settings > Options. They should either switch to the emulator window or uncheck that setting. Now that you're running the game, you can get a feel for how the lag is. The plugin works by delaying all players' inputs, even the host's, by the number of frames specified by the /lag command. The default value is 5. You can change the lag value at any time, so if you feel there's too much input lag, tweak it down, or if the emulator is performing choppily, adjust it up. Just type /lag <number> to set it. /lag 3 is what I use. That's all there is! Have fun!

So this video was completely recorded months before he finished editing. This is mostly right but not quite the full story. Most of the time was spent trying to get netplay working. I pretty much forgot Jet Force Gemini's co-op mode until Concordat reminded me, so instead of going straight to recording the next update, I had to figure out how to get it working correctly so I could show off co-op in the update. This took up most of the time between updates. (That and also me trying to figure out how to get rumble working on my controller, but that didn't take very long.) Recording and editing the first half only took a couple of days. Co-ordinating with Toddy to do co-op took another few days. Then there was that Starship Troopers cutaway. I wanted to get some other people to do the voices there since everyone had already heard our voices throughout the LP. Co-ordinating with thevoiceofdog and MeccaPrime took a little longer before we finished that. Editing the whole episode together only took a few days.
