Gang tags are probably never going to be mod approved again after all the headaches and copy cats they started (manually requesting them and also requires an admin to approve EACH ONE). The Mass Effect goons figured out a way to buy emoticons and have users change their avatars themselves using emote tags in their title text.

I think you can just make a tag and then buy an avatar with that tag in it, like in the Saints Row 3 thread.

Regarding DNF: terrible game, but people had been waiting for DNF for years. I mean, you had people posting receipts from a decade ago where they pre-ordered the drat thing. The gap between Wasteland/Wasteland 2 is definitely larger in terms of years, but the developers of Wasteland 2 haven't been saying "ok guys seriously THIS year Wasteland 2 is coming out!" for the past decade.

It might not be a bad idea to try and raise $5K between us in order to get an SA statue in the game. If it worked for RPG Codex it'd work for us. I'm sure most of the people who contributed to their statue fund-raiser also threw in $15/$50 for their own personal copies of the game.

The game gets more money, we get a giant grenade statue in the game or something.

I'd toss a little bit in. I say we just start a donation pool and the top 30 contributors get the digital copies, and the biggest contributor will get the signed box and whatnot. Everyone else will have to just be happy with helping to get the statue in the game, and consider their donation a little extra tossed Fargo's way on top of the contribution they already have on Kickstarter.

No, this would be like "Donate to the SA Grenade" or whatever we pick and we gather the amount, 2.5K I think for personal items, then we would make the purchase for the site with the money as one BONUS transaction to raise even more money for the game and do something for the site and get SA into the game.

Whatever goodies it comes with, we would raffle away to goons who donated.

What is a good way to pool money without losing it to fees and poo poo?

I'll start off on the "Get SA into Wasteland 2" project with $250, but we need to form a fully realized idea and goal before we start throwing around money.

Other than the 5% take, it sounds like a job for kickstarter Maybe we could get them to waive the 5% fee since it's a pass-through to a different kickstarter, but then pooling resources for greater rewards might become a weird meta-kickstarter trend and now my head hurts.

Yeah, the 2.5K would be a reasonable goal. Then we can brainstorm and decide what we want:

quote:

BECOME AN NPC, WEAPON, OR LOCATION AND PLACE A PERSONALIZED COLLECTIBLE ARTIFACT IN OUR WORLD and write its backstory! You'll also receive a signed Collector's Edition, boxed version and 10 digital copies of the game to do what you'd like with, in addition to a lv4 Desert Ranger medal of honor limited edition collectible.

A grenade in the game that does "SomethingAwful"
The abandoned SomethingAwful Corporate Office
Lowtax, the hammer sales man
Leonard J Crabs? JeffK? Game Dudes? Cliff Yablonski?

Then we could give away the digital copies, the award (would we get all 4 or just the level 4?) and the book to people who donated.

AxeManiac posted:

I will certainly do my best. I suppose we then need to take AxeManiac's 5/10% start and figure out What The Hell.

You know, becoming a weapon or a location for $2,500 certainly sounds intriguing; the Something Awful grenade as discussed previously would be hilarious, and though it seems obvious that you could have a place called the "Something Awful Forum," I am not sure that would be as elegant as the No Mutants Allowed bar.

It would be pretty easy to figure out what to do at $5,000, though, since the grenade would be a beautiful statue. Of course, we would then still have to decide what to do about our $2,500 NPC/weapon/location. We could put Lowtax in the game, but obviously he may have no interest in being in the game.

HondaCivet posted:

I think we definitely have enough time, if we have enough interest. Particularly since I am sure there are still people who do not know about this whole thing who might end up discovering it through some sort of front page effort. It is kind of funny that Kickstarter would be the best way to Kickstarter Kickstarter, but between the approval process and the unlikelihood of them waiving the fee it seems like it would not work.

Edit: Aw crap new post

Yeah, the grenade is a pretty obvious weapon choice. If Lowtax did not object, he would be a safe bet as well. I am having a hard time with a potential location, as fun as it would be, but abandoned corporate offices would probably be funny, though I do not know if we actually get to brainstorm the location or just name one they are making anyway.
