Did you remember you save your game?

It's one of those manuals that you'd really want in print. It has a lot of fluff information and funny tidbits and it tries to present the game not as a game, but as a post-apocalytpic simulator. At some point in my youth I was actually wondering if I was. Then I shot a rat and it exploded and I forgot all about it.

It was also the first game that taught me and punished me for not saving my game often enough. While I didn't save to a lot of files, I did end up saving before every big decision and making a new save when I was going to take a risk on something.

Doing the Brotherhood quest was the one that left me clueless on how to progress because there was no town nearby where I could apply the medication before it ran out of time.

Kind of a good point though. I mean, if you're willing to drop $250 on a game you've never tried, why not head over to GOG.com and get Fallout 1 and 2 for $12? (Yes, Fallout 1 was free this week but that promo's over unfortunately.) Wasteland 2 won't be identical of course but it'll at least give you a good feel as to whether or not you'll enjoy this type of game.

If you do this, don't forget to read the manual. I kinda forgot about that when I started playing Fallout 1 a few days ago. Did not go well.

I donated $250 and I've never played the original either. I'm a huge fan of the Fallout games though (Fallout 3 excepted), and while they'll be very different games, I just want more post-apocalyptic RPGs.

Well, it was only $100 until they broke out the news that Chris Avellone would join at $2.1 million. I'm also an unrepentant Obsidian/Avellone fanboy.

If you travel to empty bits of map and click on your location you're taken to an empty random encounter style screen. Do that just outside the area, dose up, stroll in.

Cue one of the biggest ah-hah's I ever had playing games as a kid.

It changed everything in how I approach games. Before that things had been very straight, didn't even think about it.

I've never played the original Wasteland, nor Fallout 1 or 2. I loved New Vegas, which I know is completely different as far as genres go. Nevertheless, I pledged $50 to this game because why the gently caress not. Plus SA's getting into the game. I've gotta be a part of this somehow.

New Vegas plays completely differently, and is packed more densely, but the locations, characters and stories nail the "Fallout feel" pretty well.

Also, all you people who liked New Vegas but haven't played the originals, Fallout 1 and 2 are on GOG and Wasteland is abandonware and runs in dosbox. You have no excuse.

It says 3 on the page, but it's actually just under 4 days. 8 AM EDT on the 17th.

And I think we are in the birth pangs of the bump, yesterday and the day before were well above what the downward trend would have pointed toward.

Edit: Is anybody even looking at this stuff any more? It gives me something to do until this thing ends, I guess. Here you go:

No, your tables are great. It keeps me from refreshing the Kickstarter page all the time too.

Having the Fallout 1 manual in print would be great, although the PDF from GOG is really nice too. And yes, I remembered to save. I've already learned that harsh lesson from other games like Disgaea.

I kinda miss the age where I could use game manuals as toilet reading material and have it actually entertain me.

Manuals now are like appetizers for a bigger meal, but there's no follow-up.

Which sounds just weird in this context.

The nuts and bolts of this thing are neat to unpack. Like the fact that there aren't a lot of folks along with me in terms of $ or raw numbers in the $75 tier, but a squinty jillion at $100 - the lure of nifty tchotchkes is nigh-irresistible.

Those are good points actually. I dropped the money on there because I have been a big fan of Fallout and I liked the games they've made since then.

And it seems that I won't be spending much since GOG is having an sale on Interplay games so both Fallout games are $3 anyway. I might as well grab Planescape: Torment while I'm at it.

It's nice art, but I can't say that it matches how I've envisioned Wasteland (extrapolated from those good old 16-colour, 8-bit tiles, which, granted, leaves a lot of room for one's imagination)

I always saw the world as largely intact, but run-down and abandoned, rather than completely ruined and now rebuilt with junk. More Mad Max than The Road Warrior or Beyond Thunderdome — the Savage Village and central Vegas being the only mild exceptions.

HELL YEAH or even completely unprofessionally framed is still an improvement; ever since MY GIRLFRIEND (we are married now it is cool) showed me how framing my gaming posters made them instantly more awesome, I have kept all of them in the same condition as when I framed them--and I am talking about crappy Meijer (~Target/Wal-Mart) $10 frames here. Still super-classy and beautiful compared to thumbtack marks or tape tears. I lost so many good posters that way

Peas and Rice posted:

Good call, I bet a fair number of people are not going to really think this through and will just send in like boring Facebook profile pictures of themselves. I am sure anyone who dresses up in remotely apocalyptic gear will be rewarded. Or punished.

That guy is legitimately crazy (in a good way). He posts this stuff almost daily on the Wasteland 2 wall--he made that "Rammstein/Wasteland 2" homage that basically blew my mind forever (he sent me an unfinished version of one of his new works with a Rammstein quote attached as a thanks for personally messaging him )

Still I agree that I do not think his art actually matches what they have in mind--but I kind of think they should make a dedicated Wasteland 2 Fan Page or something and have him go nuts adorning it.

I could do with more faded gaudy paint, but it does look a little bit like it was once painted but it has all worn off. Really I just do not want the people who worry that this game will remove all non-grey-brown-orange colors to be right.
