Yeah because of its setup, when you start throwing around huge, huge numbers (like tens of millions huge) it becomes more and more difficult to sustain with the loose barter system KS has in place. Eventually we're gonna hit that KS break point; the theoretical upper limit of what KS can fund before people start demanding a real product before so much speculative backing. Dunno where it'll be, though. I wish someone would make a graph of a month-to-month "highest funded project amount" since KS started back in 08, since I remember Tiktok holding the record from when it ended back in Dec 2010 to like three months ago, when OotS or whatever finally broke the one million ceiling. Then, of course, the next month double fine got over double that. Pretty crazy. NieR Occomata fucked around with this message at 03:56 on Apr 17, 2012 |

I like a watch to see what time it is with a quick bend of the wrist and a glance, it is a lot better than reaching into pocket, pulling out phone, click the wake button, reading the time, clicking the sleep button, and putting it back in my pocket. If I can get a watch that tells; me who is calling, that I have an email, and change change my music I think that is worth $115. I also like that we can change the face and even make our own!

JRPGs are one of the most slow-moving (as far as evolution is concerned) genres there are right now. In 2003 I think I was emulating SNES games, so I think he probably either played Final Fantasy emulated or he played RPG Maker games and feel now that it's basically used for making porn, it needs to go back to its roots as a game that at least tries to be pretentious. I actually do like the look of the art and assets in the presentation, but I need to see more before I think it's something to throw money anywhere near. The fact that they have an artist on board is very helpful though.

Yeah, the stuff they've shown thus far doesn't exactly look bad, it's just a mix of the claims they're making being rather iffy(RPGs becoming too Westernized, etc.) and that this is pretty much his first game-making experience. I mean, if it turns out great, awesome, it might actually let him make this a career. But it's a bit difficult to look at and think that it's worth pledging for at the moment. Kickstarter works great when it's supporting something that wouldn't get made by someone you like. Double Fine Adventure, Wasteland 2, etc. Person's first game project with some decent looking assets? Well, there's worse things to spend money on but there's also far better things too.

Brown Moses posted:In case you missed it Ellwood Barlett has posted a series of videos where he discusses the gameplay mechanics of Your World. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but my personal favorite feature is the hookerbots. Every game needs hookerbots (apparently) standing around the seedy part of town looking all hooker-ish. What happens when you visit a hookerbot? Well... 1. Get with the hookerbots, your stats go up because you are happy. 2. Get with the hookerbot, you get a disease signified by a robotic crab that follows you around for an hour. 3. Give the money to the hooker, the pimp comes and beats you up taking an item and cash. 4. The police show up and you get put in jail (60 min cooldown on all spells and actions). If you're worried, these are only on the 18+ servers and they have "ways" to tell whether or not you're 18.

Weren't the hookerbots only inlcuded to appease some troll in the comments? I seem to recall someone (jokingly, I hope) suggesting it and Barlett only grudgingly accepting the idea. Now it seems like he's milking that idea for everything it's worth (Which is nothing).

Wow, this dude is really knowledgeable about how hookers work, don't know how we are going to manage server combat balance but hot dang does he know the hooking game will work! I don't see how this dude even thinks he will be funded for this, I think with kickstarter the first week tell tale sign of how well it is going to do. A game with a lower funding level might be able to get finding this late in the time but he still has over a million to go, and to me the game doesn't seem promising at all

It blows me away they're using Amazon Payment at 5% when they could just setup their own credit card system for maybe half that, or use Dwolla at 25 cents per payment. Five percent on some of those $10,0000 pledges has GOT to hurt.

To me it's a stretch to back a game with the payment processing in May 2012 for a November 2013 release. I understand the reasoning why with development costs and such but it's a pretty shaky foundation. Imagine the reaction if it starts going down the vaporware route and all that money is all spent.
