I never played Skullgirls since I'm not much of a fighting game fan (though I've seen it) but I know it's really solid. That looks like a great concept and might be the first thing on IndieGogo I'll ever pledge toward (and I have >120 backed Kickstarters)

I really like good action-RPGs, particularly ones that aren't 3rd person 3D.

Indiegogo is probably offering them some sort of incentive. Skullgirls is still one of the biggest gaming projects IG has had.

Another Castle just went bust.

quote:

Unfortunately I’m canceling Another Castle.

Last year I almost went completely broke, and totally burned out on the game. I was able to get a full time job, and had naively thought I would still be able to work on the game on the side. The reality is that the scope of what I wanted to make was too large, and for a lot of reasons I no longer believe in the game. At this point I need to work on something that I have a realistic chance to finish and can make awesome.

If you would like a refund, I would be more than happy to provide you with one. Just send me a message and I can send you the money through paypal or by check. It may take me a few months to refund everyone, however I want to make this right to the extent that I can.

I can’t make any specific promises right now, however I think there is a lot I can take from this project to work on some smaller, more tightly defined games. If at all possible, any games I do end up making I’ll be giving to you for free even if you get a refund.

I’m sorry for letting you down.

At least he's honest. If I were that honest I'd admit that I'd totally forgotten about this one.

Legends of Fire and Steel is a turn-based fantasy strategy game that's kind of like Heroes of Might and Magic meets light territory-control wargames like Risk. They're at 2k/50k with 14 days to go, which is a shame, because it actually looks pretty good.

While the game takes its roots from old-school strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic, Civilization and Warcraft, it is designed differently from the ground up to be fun and enjoyable in hour-long play sessions either in single player or multiplayer mode. The controls are kept purposefully simple, and the player actions have been honed down to make every choice meaningful. This is a game about creating a strategy, and then executing it by making the correct tactical decisions quickly.

We have also looked to card games like Hearthstone and Magic the Gathering for inspiration - integrating the ability to choose armies and heroes to be mixed and matched like trading cards to create complex strategies. These abilities work with the terrain types and map layout to create opportunities for players to create different strategies against their opponents.

Maybe they should have mentioned Skyrim and being a rogue-like.

I thought it was obvious when their only human-looking Fae was basically just a normal woman but with giant breasts stuffed into a toga, or that their human women are all wearing breast armor and the rightmost one is actually doing the '90s comic book tits-and-rear end pose.

I'd say at least the Undead faction doesn't have a sexy vampire but it's hard to figure out what's up with that half-zombie woman on the right.

Apparently Indiegogo takes less of a cut and you get the money faster, also as previously stated Indiegogo might be giving them some sort of added incentive because the Skullgirls campaign was one of Indiegogo's biggest ever.

Indiegogo has the option to do flexible funding, which gives the money immediately. Usually this is more of a turn off but Skullgirls was possibly the only really successful flexible funding campaign because they really did have everything needed to continue working on the game, they were just broke.

It's yet another day in the wasteland.

Kurtofan posted:

Yeah, what's the advantage of Indiegogo exactly?

It used to (and in some instances still do) have the advantage that they accepted campaigns from a wider range of locations around the world, whereas Kickstarter was strongly tied into US payment institutions that required a US presence to get the money out at the end.

While this has changed a lot over the last year or two, a number of companies have established themselves on Indiegogo and run a couple of campaigns by now, meaning their backers are already in the system. For both the company and the backer, this creates a fair amount of inertia to move everything and everyone over to a different platform.
