I've been pretty down on video game crowdfunding lately, but that looks like a pretty good effort from Nightdive and I'm looking forward to trying the demo when I have some time. I'm a little confused about the $1.4 million stretch goal though, because it seems like it pretty dramatically changes the core gameplay.

I think we've found the Kickstarter with the most needless involvement of Chris Avellone ever.

If you play the demo, don't kill anything by the ladders or else you'll get stuck on them while you try to use them.

They'll probably fix optimization issues with the full release. I'd love to play a new System Shock game, even if it is just the first game with a new coat of paint.

Played the pre-alpha tech demo for it via Steam. It's exactly what I'm looking for in a remake of such a great classic.

He wasn't a magic bullet either - I think it was the Bard's Tale IV that featured him as a stretch goal that didn't get hit. Or maybe that was George Ziets. Poor George. Naturally I have the money to be featured as an NPC in SS1R and it was sold out as a tier immediately. Hopefully VtM or the next Obsidian game ends up being something I can toss money at.

Fuzz posted:That budget goal seems hilariously low. I've been following the project on TigSource and it seems that these guys would be finishing the game with or without KS. A big factor for devs like this is visibility/promotion, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the main reason they're doing a KS. Well, that and the two fancy composers. Not saying there's no risk, but it's different than projects run by ~actual studios~ with physical locations and salaries and stuff. Edit: Ahh yeah, I didn't notice those console ports. Yeesh. I think the base goal is adequate for the base goal but they're definitely underestimating the cost of the console ports, I think.

I knew it was the real deal when I turned around and a mutant had snuck up behind me soundlessly. I'm hoping for more new stuff than old stuff, if just because the original level design is incredibly dated and makes no sense, even when you slap snazzy new visuals on it. It's weird how little you notice modern games' tendency to take architecture / spacial design seriously until they stop doing it.

If you set the goal to 100K and people pledge 26K, you get nothing. If you set the goal to 25K and people pledge 26K you get $26K. That's no incentive to say the goal any higher than the minimum you think people will believe.

But do let us know how the Tech demo goes, it's interesting enough.
