I'm very much considering backing this because the fact that Sega never ported Daytona USA HD to PC was a big disappointment to me and this just seems like the perfect tribute. Hope it can hit the goal though because while I know Kicktraq isn't accurate it shows it failing :ohdear:

90's Arcade Racer might be heading to the Wii U according to this update. (read it closely)

There's also a couple of new screenshots. Nothing special but it looks like it might hit the goal.

The 90's Arcade Racer guy is getting help from Nicalis and the game's going to be on Wii U, iOS and Android.

90's Arcade Racer Kickstarter page posted:

Hello everyone,
as I mentioned a while ago this is no longer a one person project, I will be working with Nicalis in order to make this game the best it can be. Here are few words from them:

Hello!

My name is Tyrone Rodriguez. I’m with Nicalis, Inc. You may or may not have heard of Nicalis, but we’ve worked with other talented developers on games like Cave Story, VVVVVV, NightSky and 1001 Spikes.

We’re working with Anthony on The ‘90s Arcade Racer. Our collaboration will allow him to realize his vision of the game and make sure that he has the necessary Unity programming and design help he needs so that he can concentrate on art and other aspects. On our end, we’ll be working on the Unity programming, physics, tuning and general design and production of the game.

I grew up playing arcade games and the racing genre has always been one of my favorites. I worked for a now-dead magazine called Tips&Tricks when Sega was at the top of its game in terms of hardware and racing games; being part of a magazine where we were supposed to be pros at games, I ended up spending a lot of time playing Virtua Racing, Daytona, Super GT (Scud Race outside the US), Daytona 2 and basically every other Sega racer (even the weird ones like Moto Raider).

For anyone asking about the physics, both Anthony and I know what arcade racers should feel like. I also have experience with racing games and actual track experience; I worked on The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift (PS2, PSP), designing its drift physics. and have over 100 hours of real-world track time (open-wheel, street and race cars). Anthony and I won’t stop until we get the tuning just right.

Oh, by the way, we’ll be publishing the game on Wii U eShop, too.

Yeah, I really don't think this will work. Nicalis already has a shady history as is with the Cave Story incident.

Welp, as long as it doesn't kill development of the PC version....

I'd love to see that combined with something like Rollergames (the arcade game, not the NES game) where you get to skate around and beat other skaters up.

Note that Stompy Bot are the same ones who have acquired the trademark to Freespace (though it's not clear who owns the IP).

I was kind of doubtful on this, but that trailer is all done in UE4 and I think it could potentially turn out well. Some people are a bit mad at MekTek though because they had to drop MechWarrior 4 to do this.

Aside from the $750 tier reward being a bit creepy (and the second time a game kickstarter has had a body pillow reward) this seems like something worth backing because all 3 of these games kick rear end and are just spaceships blowing poo poo up (as opposed to the eXceed games they released before)

Heavy Gear Assault just updated their Kickstarter. Goal is still $800k, but they're adding a single player mode right off the bat instead of making it a stretch goal. I think I'm in on this. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stompybot/heavy-gear-assault-0/posts/490704
