UNAI sounds like it fills a gap, having a organisation ready and willing to deal with bastard coated space bastards like Proen can only be a good thing. Also the off the books skunk works esque ships sound awesome. Space U-2s, F-22s, predator drones etc darting around the solar system to uncover (and if needed) expose and foil the reds plans can only be a good thing. Having small, fast ships with large passive sensors would aid in keeping tabs on their fleet movements and figuring out their military/research doctrines. Ynkling posted:There is some leeway in ordinance production for sensor/spy probes, however. There was some discussion around this in the past and there definitely exists a place for a surveillance probe that can be launched by a Berlin or Project VALKYRIE ship. Would it be possible to build a SOSUS style net around Saturn and with time, other tactical locations around the Sol? It would be a huge boon for intel gathering and tracking dirty commie bastard fleet movements. edit: With luck this will free up naval assets and reduce the workload for any possible scouting/skunk work style vessels. Also if WW3 breaks out we will hopefully have forewarning from the reds attempting to destroy or disable the space SOSUS net. Chiwie fucked around with this message at 02:35 on Nov 6, 2012 |

Hostergaard posted:FROM: Hostergaard, Commander of Missile complex B I humbly suggest Project Hermes. Proposed goals: 1. Establishment of United Nations Agency of Intelligence (UNAI) 2. Expansion and organisation of espionage teams under the newly created UNAI. 3. Creation of a SOSUS style sensor net around strategic locations. 4. Capability to deploy a smaller tactical SOSUS net when needed. 5. Creation or modification of a off the shelf design to create ship for UNAI use. Tentative Project Hermes Sensor Net (HSN) requirements: General intention: Forms the core of tracking network that will provide vital intelligence on shipping and colonies in strategic locations. Creation of this network provides the UN with a far better intelligence picture than we currently have at a low on going cost. It also provides advanced warning of attacks should war break out. An aggressor will have to disable the Hermes Sensor Net or risk the UN gaining a huge advantage during the potential conflict. During wartime, the HSN can be deployed along convoy routes or used to provide intelligence at key locations if stealthy deployed by Rapid Intelligence Ship. They can also form the heart of minefields. Inspiration: SOSUS network Requirements in descending order of need.
Project Hermes Rapid Intelligence Ship (RIS) requirements: General intention: Provide UNAI with a swiss army knife ship to fit it's requirements. Ship has to be able to deploy and maintain the HSN, UNAI teams and take on off the book missions as required. The ship also has to be able to successfully tail ships of interest in order to gather vital intelligence. During war the vessel will also function as a commerce raider. Mining key supply routes and conducting hit and fades. Inspiration: Virginia Class Submarine w/ Advanced SEAL Delivery System Requirements in descending order of need.

FROM: Chiwie, FHQ TO: UNEC RE: PROJECT EINHERJAR and Commercial Fleet Disparity I think the reds have us beaten on quantity, might be an idea to focus on higher quality ships over sheer numbers. Expanding the commercial tonnage of the fleet or providing more subsidies can only be a good thing for the long term.

Is it possible to encourage another megacorp to start producing large scale commercial shipping? At least that way we can have an alternative to go to if McK screws up on this scale again. Also forces them to bid against a competitor.

From UNIN Fleet HQ (Intel) Proen has cooperated fully. Option A has gotta be the way to go. Edit: Is there anyway we can help the Free Mars group? If we can get them on side they might be a valuable ally against Fed interests on the red planet. Proen might be a valuable tool in this.

From: UN Fleet HQ INTEL DESK To: All I suggest a new policy. All UN fleet transports are to be escorted at all times. The fact that we are allowing a vital strategic asset like the Lictors to be man handled like this is unacceptable. OtherworldlyInvader posted:Frankly I think our problems here run deeper than not having the transports escorted. If we have a ship following them around, Fred sends more. The problem is we still haven't fully caught up to the Federation in naval strength, and yet we decided to ally against them with a nation that has no navy or ability to project ground forces. At least we would have the ability to make an attempt to defend ourselves or screen the lictors long enough to make an escape. We have pretty much handed them plus the MI troops on board to the feds on a platter.

To: All UN fleet commanders/council members From: UNIN Fleet HQ, Intel Well the fed speech clearly outlines what many of us thought/feared they will do. They are going to bully us with their navy and they know we won't lift a finger to do anything about it. With the higher ups permission I would like to explore asymmetric attack options. If we can't go after them directly we ca... sorry, we need to punish them for taking our men hostage. We can not take this lying down and if we can't risk a open brawl we need to examine other options.

Given how the Feds are acting we need MAD just to keep them from pulling crap like they currently are.

I just love that people like Coolguye keep advocating the media option without making plans for the worst case scenario. On that note saying you are taking notes on who is advocating alternative options to 'just roll over and take it' is several shades of retarded. The Fed's are clearly not playing by the same code of ethics that we go by. We need to adjust to that or we are going to be played like a fiddle for the foreseeable future. Therefore we need to explore other options to level the playing field. If that involves making them think that we are mad enough to let the Sword of Damocles hanging over both sides head's to fall then so be it. EclecticTastes is dead on. We need a skunkworks style production facility to give us that X factor. It could just be a low rate production of some exotic test beds that we can't mass produce at one of the current shipyards. Occasionally leak one of the designs doing something unexpected for one of our ships/fleet doctrine. Leak burly shot of it being tested. Let the media speculate on what it can/can't do. Let them worry about the boogie man UN black ops ships that may or may not exist lurking under the bed. It might give us the edge in negotiation that dispute the fed's current void advantage that we have something that will cause enough pain for them to think twice before pulling a stunt like the attack on the lictor. On that note a intel sensor network would be really handy right now. Project Hermes would of covered both of the above problems quite nicely.

If the Fed's think our military is toothless then you are giving them a free hand to do what ever they drat well want. Yes, I know its unwinnable. That's the entire point of MAD. However right now they believe that we will not pull the trigger and that is letting the Fed run amuck. In other words I might be a god drat idiot, but you sir are a short sighted imbecile.
