You can join, mics are really needed for those who want to be an Officer. Also, we're doing a line battle soon so get in TS.

That linebattle had to have had the dumbest map selection, rules, and faction choice. No horseman or artillery for a faction that doesn't get riflemen? Gee, good choice. The riflemen on the opposing side were getting 40 kills out of a hundred people a map because they outranged anything we could field. It's only by luck (and suicidal charges) that we won the latter two rounds.

We still won the Line Battle. Won the first two maps and only lost the last map because half our team quit (pubbies ).

Goons held the line in the last map, too. Last regiment standing both rounds.

That was some serious Rorkes Drift stuff yeah, we could have held it if our allies weren't loosely grouped pubbie rabbie lead by poor old 5arge. Here are some screenshots of it. The rest are in the NW Goons Screenshot album here.

Thanks for showing up to everyone including our officers, flags men (nice suicidal charge Desu) and music men. Next one is a 12/20 man affair with a new regiment Blue Spy organised. So new guys and guys wanting to try Officering do that!

You're going to have to specific.

That happened a lot.

Anyway, we did pretty good! Better at shooting then we tend to be, which was nice. Seems our real shining point overall is still some melee, though. If you aren't confident at melee... Just go play on a pubbie server for a while. Siege as a attack on a good day and battle will help you out - Don't do TDM, though, as lives have no real meaning. People just toss themselves at you, not really what you'll see in reality.

The maps were kinda eh, but things are still being ported over and tried out. There was no cavs or arty because all the regiments on our server were way to big, Sarge tried to do it. They didn't have that many skirmishers, we just spent most of the time fighting them while the other lines were else where, strangely.

Still, we did pretty well.

Edit: VV Ah yes, that was pretty good.

Charging across that bridge in the first map at like forty Austrians and just walking into them blocking them with the flag pole. You even got two of them to TK each other in blood lust.

Their skirmishers devastated our armies though, they got 65/75 kills as a group per map. We, on the other hand, averaged at most 15 gun kills per map but made up for it with masses of melee kills during that ambush.

The best part of that whole thing was they completely ignored the line that had formed across from them to gently caress with the one guy with a flag nearby and got shot to gently caress due to it.

A shooting class is in order. Back when I played competition battlefield we used to spend days just practicing shots at different ranges, and in that game the bullets generally go where you aim. You could actually watch our line aiming in different directions, some high, some low, some left, some right.

Not that I know anything I'm just a new guy who literally bought this game today (I can't hit poo poo with my gun).

I think this sunday we should practice both with shooting and possibly the return of the platoon system.

As well as minor Officer training.

We need a drill session for the newer dudes and to tighten up the rules. Everyone at least needs to have TS and be on at the time of battles. Listen to your drat officers and learn the difference between line 1 and 2. Also, goddamn stop being retards. Also get on IRC for instant information update and either prod Conot or me.

Do note that even though the above seems rather strict for goon standards we have the problem that to be able to play in these linebattles we need to be invited by sperging pubbies who yell about their immersions and will loving BAN us if we even do something as not poop era wise. It's poo poo and until we have 200 goons with which we can run our own linebattles we're stuck with these pubbies.

I'll be writing up a doc for artillery and skirmishers - I suggest some other officers write up one for cavalry, line infantry and sappers.

Next week I'll spend some time mapping the bullet drop on the musket, cavalry musket and rifle to see if there actually IS a sweet spot.

tl;dr learn this game, take pills against retardation, get on ts and irc

That was pretty fun, although I had to drop out after the first map due to extreme tiredness.

I agree that we need more training. I couldn't stop laughing every time we were ordered to make two columns and ended up with three, where noone did anything to correct it. Would it be practical to have a sergeant or two to help dress the lines?

We'd be two line infantry less because we can't dress the line and need two extra dudes running around with flags (sergeants spawn with flags). Better idea might be to designate two people first in line and have them do the upper block mode to specify who they are. Then everyone files in after them.

So you'd have the following:

code:
0 - - - - - line 1
0 - - - - - line 2

0 line designator
Whenever the line designator gets shot the first person besides him becomes line designator. This requires the designator to declare his death and the person besides him speaks up as line designator.

code:
X 0 - - - - line 1
X 0 - - - - line 2

X dead line designator
0 new line designator
Whenever the person next to you dies you dress the line and fill the gaps. You need to stand shoulder to shoulder.

I'm going to make an info pdf with screenshots next week, so I need some of you to help me take pictures. We also need a fact sheet in this pdf for officer training and the other roles.

Or you just do what we do now and when someone accidently starts to form a third or further line someone who realizes tells the line to scurry to the back and they do so in the span of less then two seconds.

Very simple, that.

Regardless, I didn't notice anything particularly bad with the Linebattle, organization wise. The officers (Not just you, Codename) sometimes made a error of moving off to lead the line before they really followed them and there was the occasional error with communication and what not, but none of it was absolutely critical.

We're just a random bundle of people playing a game together, remember. We're never going to have a heavy amount of organization to a strange psychic link. If you want that, you probably should join a "real" regiment then our pile of tenbuxs.

That said, any of our issues seems to be on a case by case, individual basis. We can kick people out, it's a thing we can do.

It didn't help that the 84e's Ensigns and Officers hilariously looked alike from the back and when they didn't have the standard and weren't paying attention you'd realise you'd been following Desu all along.

Also, we do need a Napoleonic bayonet smiley and I do believe that the small line battle against the 44th is European time.

Well, everyone knows I'm hardly the one who spergs about discipline or hard straight lines in linebattles but tightening up our show might give us a better shot at the pubbies who do sperg.

Else we'll just commence the jigglin.

The ambush was really a surprise, especially with two enemy regiments. I wanted to lure the enemy into the wheat field with our standard and drummers, but I hadn't expected them to be pushing hard into the forest.

We were lucky we were on the edge of the map and the enemy lines were just running forward. The whole even losses thing could have been avoided if we had managed to hit anything with our volley but that was a bit my fault "Everyone face left!"
