I think that's from the Sharpe's series, though I have yet to watch it.

19th Century War is often harder on the aggressor than it is on the defender however, I also know that it doesn't necessarily turn you into a sad, depressed sack of Republican tears for the rest of your life.

Pretty much, rarely wore it though outside a couple of scenes in the series as Cornwell wrote the character to be a scruffy rogue.

The shako is one of my favourite military head dresses.

Depends really, we need to use our IRC channel more though. Most of us lurk in either though.

Keep an eye on this thread too I always mention when we goon up in a group and take to the field.

Hmm, positional damage might explain most of my issues if I'm stabbing them in the legs accidentally.

Still doesn't explain how a guy with his back turned to me motionless can dodge 15 bayonet stabs, but I guess maybe that's just lovely netcode.

M&B has three locations for damage, as far as I know: Legs, torso & arms, and head. I'm not sure what the armor values are in NW, but you definitely want to go for the face every-time, and be moving forward if possible in your thrusts. You also want to be the proper distance from your opponent so that the bayonet strikes him near the end of the thrust. The game takes your/your opponents vectors into account as well as the distance.

Gamerofthegame

Could at least flip one or two, maybe.

In this location damage doesn't matter. Either you wisely move forward with your bayonette stab and one hit someone or you have to do another hit. Doesn't matter where it lands. (So long as it, you know, lands.)

Shooting does do more damage with head damage, though that only really effects pistols. Shoot center mass, folks.

You sometimes wiff people because of lag. There are usually over a hundred people playing after all, with strong EU and NA communities that get all intermixed. Just a thing that happens I'm afraid.

Definitely material for the regiments "Faces of War" album.

I kinda like my randomly generated face, it looks like a french movie star (of soft porn). But if I want to make it wackier, how can I do it without making it irreparable? Can you save one character, edit it and save the new one under a new name?

Could always just start a new profile if you want to experiment with faces and genders really.

Got that Kip, and nice work just taking screenshots and kill messages Stoic man. If people are loving with you in this game in the obvious ways with TKing and blocking just get evidence and drop it off at the forums. I'm definitely gonna need to hang around for some melee/marksmanship training at some point. I'm the worst at melee, ever. I think I might have managed to stab myself somehow.

I'm getting better at marksmanship though. I think the best idea is to just not fire at ranges where bullet drop matters. That seems to be key. Also, I'm a pretty drat good artillery shot as long as it's not with mortars.

We'll do some training later before this small scale line battle, two lines with practicing officers just lining up and charging each other.

I want to get it so half of us at least survives the accidental 'OH poo poo CHARGE' moments on the battlefield.

Also, I butchered some classic Napoleonic quotes and threw up an expanded bio about Duke Dickbutt under the OP if you like my terrible terrible humour.

This reminds me of the Finnish beer brand Sandels - named after Colonel (later Marshall) Johan August Sandels, a hero of the Finnish War 1808-1809 and depicted as a great culinarist in the poetry of J.L. Runeberg. His force of 1800 men forced back a Russian force of 8000 men at the battle of Koljonvirta.

Wikipedia posted:

These events and others in the Finnish War were later retold in a series of epic poems by Johan Ludvig Runeberg. Runeberg's poem tells a story of Sandels having a feast while the enemy mounts a premature attack. Sandels continues his meal and is accused of cowardice, after which he raises and rides to the battle, drives back the enemy and is praised by his men.

I got a feel more than twenty of us will show in the next hour. So the guys doing the line battle will pop into one of the channels below and we'll go do some pubbie wrecking on a siege or conquest server.

We ripped their poo poo up in melee though. However there was something strange about the shooting; as a spectator i hovered over the enemy line and saw our shots litterally land inches right infront of them and right behind them without any damage done. Maybe lag messing with the hitboxes?

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal was with shooting. The last (serious) round, the shots were all going in the right place, they just weren't actually hitting. I'm inclined to say the RNG was just loving us over that round.

There's something hilarious, and also hosed up, with how the bullet shots render. I've see them damage yet still go through the person to create a dirt puff, or simply not show up at all when they miss.

I'm pretty sure they've designed it now so that the further a musket ball goes, the chances of it missing get higher and higher.

We really need to mod a custom crosshair that is easier to use when they release the modding kit too. Also, there still some goons playing on the 51st Siege server I'll throw up a casual American fun time announcement and that'll be it for NW tonight.

Tommorow though, NA LINE BATTLE.

Apparently regulars have had there numbers capped too, so only 30 of us will make it at least until they return the server numbers to 250.

If that is the case I'll try and set us up two community events a day so that everyone gets a chance to play.

I am guessing that it is just an unintentional glitch, though IRL, you can get a musket ball to punch through a dude and keep on going, depending on what you hit and at what speed the projectile reaches him. Being a soft lead ball, penetration is not as great or consistent as with modern spitzer bullets, but my uncle once shot a goddamn moose with his flintlock rifle and found the ball embedded in the trunk of a tree on the other side. Is there any chance at all that Napoleonic Wars is modelling this kind of penetration? Maybe adapted from how the cannonballs work? That would be neat!
