![]() Well, that was a painful stream. In addition to the general chaos we only managed to get through seven games, so the final tally for this Top 20 is... sixteen games. I prostrate myself in apology and promise that the next one will be better. Remember to weigh in on the new poll if you have not already! EDIT: NesLover's birthday gift is now available on my site for everyone to enjoy. Sorry about the two-day delay NesLover, but since I was late with my original idea I decided this morning to make something completely different. You could pretty much just make the entire Top 20 for next week out of the SNES library. They had tons of games that were based on Saturday morning kid's shows and cartoons, and they were pretty much all poo poo. - AAAHH!!! Real Monsters - The Adventures of Batman and Robin - Biker Mice From Mars - Bobby's World - Bonkers - Eek! The Cat - Family Dog - The Flintstones - The Incredible Crash Dummies (also a toy line and a bunch of other poo poo..) - James Bond Jr. - The Jetsons: Long Subtitle - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Nickelodeon GUTS - The Pirates of Dark Water - Ren and Stimpy (times - Rocko's Modern Life - Sailor Moon - Scooby-Doo - SWAT Kats (I haven't even heard of this, but apparently it was really a show) - Taz-Mania ...okay this is going on and on with no end in sight, but there's also Tom and Jerry, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Ultraman, and probably more I've overlooked. Good lord.

The Genesis version of Scooby Doo is actually pretty interesting. It's a Lucasarts -imitation adventure game, completely different from the SNES game.

![]() I trust you are all prepared for the startling conclusion to the Barrows Twins saga? Thanks to Domus and Sudden Javelin for joining me for this one, hope you have had a smashing birthday so far SJ! Now that we are eight weeks into the new thread I think it is about time I got to work on an in-thread project. I have decided to put off Nocturne until I find a reliable way to make the second half of the game bearable to watch, so in the meantime I am going to do a game that has been skulking in the shadows for a while...

Tewratomeh posted:- Family Dog I had that game when I was a kid. As in I spent actual kid money on it, because it was being sold for $20 at Walmart. It is aggressively mediocre, and extremely short. So you could presumably finish it within the span of a single stream play through. If you are still taking suggestions for horror games, might I throw in Isle of the Dead for MS-DOS for consideration?

Family Dog is a horrible platformer to a short-lived cartoon that really made no sense. The art was gimmicky at best, and how they even had time to create a tie-in game for it amazes me. EDIT: I am still loving the horrible foreign sim games for pre-stream. This may have been brought up in one of the chats that I have (unfortunately) missed due to being busy on Saturdays, but how many do you have left? I know there are a ton of mediocre tasks out there that could have been made into a full-fledged title, but... Vrikkian fucked around with this message at May 28, 2012 around 13:15 |

Is anybody else having trouble making it through the Ju-On video? Not because of the commentators, mind you, but due to the walking speed being so slow. I remember hearing about that when it came out, but the game would literally only take 2 of those 3 hours to beat if not for the walking speed.

Hmm... I have to admit, I found the Ju-On video to be fun, if only because of you and your co-commentator's continual banter. There were potentially cool elements to that game which the designers relentlessly squandered. Like when the kid pushed you off the building, I heard what sounded like real actual emotion in your voice, anger, frustration, surprise, and outrage that this kid, (passive up to this point,) pushed you! Pushed you off the roof And then, comes the complete negation of the tension when She just threw you off the roof with herself moments later, without any ability to resist. Frankly, I understand Ju-On is all about an irresistible curse. It's a no-win situation. However, they probably shouldn't have created a video game around a no-win scenario!

You know, I think it's OK to make a game where it's a no-win scenario. Hell, Tetris is a no-win situation. But it's not OK to make a no-win scenario where the only reward for delaying death is boredom. In Ju-On, there is literally no reason to get through a scenario, plot wise. You don't really learn anything more about the people involved, the cause, or a possible solution. You just die in a different place. I guess maybe you die more like people died in the movie. Woo. I can't imagine even hardcore fans caring that much.

Personally, I tend to think of titles like Tetris, Pac-Man, Asteroids, and the like less as no-win scenarios and more as games where you set your own win conditions. Call it Zen (Note: I don't know much about Zen,) or Obsession, but whatever it is, I think it's about where you set the bar. That said, I admit I've kind of fallen out of love with games that don't have a clear endpoint, so the appeal is kind of lost on me, even though I acknowledge it exists. ![]() But we definitely agree on Ju-On.

Ao Oni looks absolutely horrible and boring. I guess it's to be expected from a freeware RPG Maker game, but goddamn. It's basically just wandering around in silence in a comically-oversized house doing jack poo poo until a giant, horribly-drawn blue guy chase you around to the Psycho theme. What the hell, stream thread?

Yes, and I also recently enjoyed "Off", made with the same software. It's not going to have mind breaking mechanics or graphics, but that doesn't make it bad. It better be easier than Yume Nikki, though.

After all, I could have said "Oh hey there, EEK! is a ripoff of Sleepwalker, a bullshit 90s platformer which consisted entirely of an overly nasty escort quest!" Personally, I voted Ao Oni largely because I'm not likely to ever really play it myself. I make a lot of my Let's Play choices that way. I own a copy of Fatal Frame, I understand it's a high caliber title, and I totally intend to play it someday when I stop being a total Shaggy/Scooby coward about horror games. That, and I'm often intrigued by the games that indy-designers or fan-creators make which are interesting enough to appear on the radar.
