Oh hooray we're going to talk about the game now?? I have a question then . . . I like RPGs but I don't have any first-hand experience with the Shadowrun universe. Could someone try explaining to me why nerds revere Shadowrun so much? Do people just really like magical cyberelves with machine guns or is there something deeper going on?

I'm going to chip in $30 for now because apparently in the Shadowrun universe, Oregon becomes a nation of elves. I might chip in more depending on how the drive goes and what we see in updates.

So he really picked 24 days for the length? I was wondering if I'd missed a couple days of it or something. Anyway, that's pretty amazing. I'm really wondering how big this one will get. Probably as big or even bigger than Wasteland and DF.

endlosnull posted:Also, I brought up the idea of a small little Quick Look or Let's Play with some of us and Jordan and Mitch playing the old Shadowrun games, SNES, Genesis, PnP, or XBox360. Do you guys think you'd like something like it? No promises though, I don't wanna be that guy. This would be fantastic. It'd be a great intro for those of us who didn't play the earlier games but the existing fans would get a kick out of seeing these guys play their old favs too.

It's probably more awesome to me because I live in Oregon and I can't help but assume that it's some sort of political or cultural comment about the state. Is that possible or am I reading into it too much? If it's possible then I can't wait to check out what happened to the rest of the world.

Will the DocWagon service probably be available in the game even if you don't back at the $60 level? My wallet is getting hosed by Kickstarter lately so I'm not sure if I'll be going above $30.

Those pictures are nice but there is a cat person in one of them and that scares me. Does Shadowrun have cat people?

Cantorsdust posted:What concerns me is that they're raising funding from the PC fans to make the game, but they'll focus on the mobile version to sell for post-production profit. That said, there's nothing about tablets that would restrict a game of this type, so I'm cautiously optimistic. This is how I feel. I am not sure they understand their audience, or at least the one that's actually donating to the Kickstarter. Either that or, like you said, they are milking the PC fans for money so that they can try to sell the game to tablet users. I'd love if they did a poll of what platform(s) people want to actually play this on. I think that'd give everyone a big wake-up call (either that tablet users DO want this, or that none of the backers are tablet users).

Hooray for "no more wacky features, extra money = bigger/deeper game." I'm definitely feeling a bit better about the project and might up my pledge a bit. Need dat Doc Wagon.

I'd also be down for some goon Shadowrun. You guys didn't post anything in TG yet did you? I poked around and didn't find anything I recognized from this thread.

If the GM is serious about running at like 6 or 7 AM his time then I can do it, but there will probably be a few people squeezed out when he finalizes his schedule either way. So this'd be cool if someone wants to GM?

I love the gray one even though I have too many gray t-shirts. The second is really boring and the first is just terrible. I'd up my pledge to $60 if I was reasonably certain that the gray one would win.

Even tacky is too tame a word for that poo poo. The first one reminds me of something you'd put on a little kid's backpack or lunch box. Only it'd be on some 300 lbs. nerd's gut instead!

Der Shovel posted:In the middle of whatever these last two pages were, we seem to have glossed over the fact that T-shirt backers can now pick their own design instead of everyone getting the same. I hope this doesn't bump up their printing costs too much but it did bump up my pledge from 15 to 65 bucks. Yeah, glad I bumped up to $60 because of this. All the loving nerds that refuse to wear anything that isn't a black t-shirt would've screwed me out of that sweet gray one. They're going to make us send photos for the Doc Wagon cards aren't they Edit: Actually I was reading the FAQ and they said they are only making the t-shirts in sizes M-XXXL. So no small dudes or non-giant women allowed? I messaged them about women's sizes a few days ago but they didn't get back to me. :\ HondaCivet fucked around with this message at Apr 25, 2012 around 07:40 |

Is anyone else still not sure that this thing is going to end up being any good? The campaign's almost over and I'm not feeling much more confident than when it started. I didn't feel good about Wasteland 2 for awhile but as it wore on, Obsidian got thrown in, discussion of the game itself became more frequent and it became more clear that the game had solid people and concepts behind it (well, to me at least). Here? It's Shadowrun as gently caress, that's about all I know. Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering if I missed something or if others are feeling the same way.

Dapper Dan posted:My feeling is that they haven't had the time to sit down and work out all the nuts and bolts about how everything is going to work just yet. For example, we don't really know how character creation is going to work exactly. Will each be a linear path or prone to customization? (For example, possibly making a 'Face' type character using the Street Sam archetype). It's possible . . . He's been making new promises this whole time though, like a Linux port and a second city. He can promise a second city and riggers but they don't have enough work done to tell us how character gen might work? That seems a little backwards. The game may very well turn out awesome and I'll be happy to buy it then but right now it still feels like a cash grab from Shadowrun fans.

Aurubin posted:I have a feeling the three big kickstarter games, Doublefine, Wasteland 2, and Shadowrun will be received favorably, both critically and by fans. These are developers who know what they are doing as far as these particular niche games, and as such, unrestrained by executive meddling, will be great representations of that niche. That don't have the budgets to break the mold, but at the same time are free creatively. The veterancy of the people developing these games is what reassures me of quality. Look at that guy wanting to make that MMO for all the wrong reasons for an example of what happens when you go into this half-cocked. For these three however, I'll be surprised if they review poorly. Weisman helped create the Shadowrun world and other PnP and tabletop games but he's not a video game veteran like Schafer and Fargo are, at least as far as I know.

I'm in the process of doing that and I'm reaching the same conclusion. I'm not saying that it definitely won't be a good game, just that I don't have much evidence to give me confidence in them. I really hope that it turns out well though.

I played my first Shadowrun PnP game today and it's got me all excited about Shadowrun so I upped my pledge to $60. I'm such a sucker. I'm still not convinced it'll be a particularly good game but it'll be Shadowrun as gently caress and the music will probably be very good so hopefully that'll be enough. Are they really going to get it done by the beginning of next year?? That's not a good sign either.

Holy poo poo, Mitch Gitelman is really excited about giving us "ninjas." Was hoping they'd have one more little reveal or surprise for us but these people don't seem to ever sleep so they were probably incapable of coming up with anything on short notice.
