Realising that Satorl Marsh is the Bionis' butt was a pretty amusing moment for my friend. Speaking of moments, finding the Black Wreckage (bit of a mistranslation there, it seems) was pretty drat cool. Surprised they didn't tuck it away and call it a secret location, given what it is.

Though that's still kind of stupid, because any wreckage is technically a metal wreckage.

I've been too busy to really tear into this but I've been able to put in a solid four or five hours so far (leaving Colony 9 after the Mechon assault) and I'm loving it. It's been a long time since I've played a new jRPG but this is really easy to get into, probably because it borrows a fair amount of ideas from western titles. A couple areas that deserve more commentary- Combat- I never played FF12 so this sort of combat is new to me but I'm really enjoying it. Group tactics and positioning aren't something I'm used to in a jRPG but I'm a fan. I'm not a huge fan of the Break -> Topple mechanic but I imagine that's because I don't have too many options yet as far as that goes. I also wish you could give discrete orders to party members (like in Tales of Symphonia) but as others have said the AI is pretty good at picking up on what you're trying to do. Sound- The music is awesome, not much else to say that hasn't been already. I'm also a big fan of the voice acting; the constant stream of British accents gives the game a unique charm and I love the combat banter. Others have said it's too much but I think it works really well with the emphasis on teamwork that pops up several gameplay mechanics. I wish I could play it tonight but I have to work late and really need to get started on filing my taxes Definitely looking forward to when I have more time to play this, whenever that is. evilalien posted:On the skills screen for any character you can press - I believe to open up the skill link menu where you can equip certain skills from other party members onto a given character. Each skill you link requires a certain amount of affinity coins to equip so it's best that you get as many as you can. Each unique monster you kill will give one. This is useful and should be in the tips in the OP, I had no idea what affinity coins were for.

Got a craving to play this again since the NA release, I finished it with about 70 hours after it was released here (AUS). It's rare for me to replay single player games once I've completed especially ones of this size, from memory there was a new game+ mode? if so I might give that a go.

I just got to that point myself when I stopped last night. What I really liked about that scene is that, just before it, they make it a point to show you (early spoiler)that the Monado shows Shulk short visions of the future, and that he's able to change the outcome if he reacts quickly enough. So it's just that much more impactful to see him get the vision and then be unable to do anything about it. Of course, maybe that was unintentional and I'm making connections from nothing But the story and characters really do seem competently written so far, I'm loving it.

Violently Car posted:Ummm, yes he did. It's Mumkhar. Not what we're talking about. Why do the villains refer to Xord as Xord and Mumkhar as Metal Face? As Allan Assiduity pointed out, it makes sense for the HEROES to call the Faced Mechons by these names (i.e. Bronze Face, Jade Face, Gold Face, etc.) cause they don't know what the vehicles are called, but it gets silly when the villains call each other by those names as well. I mean, I know they wanted to keep Mumkhar's identity a secret for the big reveal, but Egil's Mechon had a proper name: Yaldabaoth. Anyways, it's a minor complaint. EDIT: Uh, looking over my previous post, I realize I wasn't being clear. I totally understand why Xord used his name, but Mumkhar didn't. I guess I'm just puzzled as to why he would adopt Metal Face, the identifier that the heroes refer to him as, rather than some sweet born-again Mechon name. They weren't exactly the most stable of people to begin with. I dunno. I mean, I understand why people who had their memories wiped wouldn't really bother (like Jade Face's pilot), but Mumkhar seems pretty arrogant. You think he'd give himself some really cool-sounding name so people would think he's a badass, or something. Also, fun Xord spoiler: Talk to Desiree in Colony 9 after killing him.Turns out Xord was her father.

Melia is the best character accept no substitute Seriously how can one character be so fun to play aaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Am I the only one who can't play Reyn correctly? Every other character, I'm good at figuring out whatever their niche is (even Melia, despite her being the most technically demanding character to play by far) - but with Reyn, I can't hold aggro, can't status, and can't output the deeps. I just feel useless when I play Reyn, usually while Shulk gets loving destroyed.

I'm at (late game spoiler?) Sword Valley and am I underleveled? I'm trying to fight Mumkhar and his Face mechons but they're 48 and he's 52 while my party is only level 46. Odd because even with just doing the story I was evenly leveled and now the bosses' levels are skyrocketing. Is there a gimmick I'm missing or am I going to actually have to grind?

Yeah, you might want to do SOME sidequests. Have you not even done the ones that auto complete? You should be around level 50-52 at that spot.

played for an hour or so. i couldn't find a way to change resolution so the game runs in letterbox view on my 4:3 television. combined with the screen being fuzzy for some reason, it's hard to read the text sometimes, or more importantly what buttons you're being told to press in order to do things. If anyone has suggestions for either of these options I'd appreciate it (My GameCube worked fine with all the games I played on this TV with) aside from that rubbish it's probably too early to give an impression yet, I'm liking the general feel of the game at least. looking forward to going exploring
