Also, Tenzin's airbison is called Oogi apparently.

As far as we know, the only animals that can bend are airbison, badgermoles, and dragons.

As interesting as this theory, wouldn't this mean that Amon is currently pretty old?

He would have been born when Aang was 12 (time of lightning strike). Aang dies at 66, putting Amon at 54 at that point. Korra is 16, now putting Amon at 70.

Although TLA has to its credit bad-rear end seniors, I just don't get the impression that Amon is anywhere that old based on what we've seen and heard of him.

edit: Maybe Amon was ALSO frozen in a block of ice

This theory has popped up so many times. I posted it for the first one back on one of the first pages.

Also the theory is problematic since there should have been some problems for Aang if for the last couple months/year of the series he only had like half a Avatar soul or something, and that never popped up.

Eventually he will become his own ancestor. The Avatar cycle will eventually return to Air, and all the airbenders in this era are descended from Aang.

The main reason it won't happen is because it makes the plot far too dependent on minute details in the prior series, and I think that runs counter to what they're doing with Korra. As we all blathered on about after the first two episodes aired, they seem to be pushing the idea of "this is a new series that is going to stand on its own two feet without relying on TLA!" really hard.

The other problem with that theory is that it makes no sense and runs counter to everything we know? I don't know how anyone flipped Aang's near-death from lightning into a theory about the Avatar half-reincarnating when the whole point is that when an Avatar dies in the Avatar state, the Avatar can't reincarnate anymore. He's not the Slayer!

I haven't been able to keep up with this thread 100%, so I apologize if the thing I'm about to say has already been mentioned. It's something I noticed the first time I saw the first episode of Korra but hadn't noticed anyone mention.

In the intro sequence, as Tenzin is rattling off the bending types, we see a brief demonstration of some benders doing' some moves. Now in LoK, each of the example benders is a past avatar. We see kiyoshi for earth, Roku for Fire and at the end, Korra herself for water.

This is the important part: For Air, we see adult Aang. Airbendin' like a badass. I'm not the only one whose noticed this, right? I assume he'll show up in spirit form at some point in the series but as of now, this is all the adult Aang in motion we've got and it makes me happy.

Also, does anyone else really love Bolin's showboating? Toward the end of the second episode, when the Fire Ferrets have won the match and he's just hamming it up with the crowd. Literally every character is immediately lovable in this series even grumpy Mako.

I did love the fangirl screaming before the fight. I don't really care for Mako. His type has been done too many times and it's predictably annoying to see the fangirls fawn over him like flies to a carcass. His bending is impressive, and I loved watching him preform that knockout, though I've never really cared for fire bending styles. You get one more chance, Mr. Brooding.

I'm liking all of the characters introduced so far - Bolin is great. And I'm sure the less likable ones (like Mako I presume) will get better as the season progresses.

Speaking of seasons, the pace that the plot is progressing at surprised me. I was thinking that if they kept that speed up, then the show would definitely finish in one season. Which I guess was the point, as stated in this article.

MICHAEL DIMARTINO posted:

Book 1 was always going to be 12 episodes. When we started writing, we didn't know if we would do more beyond that. Unlike the original series which had a three season arc, we designed "Korra" so that each season had it's own villain and clear resolution, so they are more stand-alone seasons. Although there are definitely arcs that carry over from Book 1 to Book 2.

And from the villains thing, it looks like we'll find out all about Amon pretty quickly.

I think it'll make me like Mako if the show is really self aware with him. The creators have already thumbed their noses at shippers a few times. It'd be hilarious if later we learn that after matches Korra and Bolin always ditch Mako because he attracts a bunch of creepy, pushy fans and they just want to go have a quiet victory dinner.
