Based on a shot I've seen of Korra and Bolin laughing over mugs together, they're going to be adorable friends. And for those of you whining that you don't want romance, the show features attractive 16-year-olds, what the gently caress do you expect.

Tall as gently caress, too. Edit: Is it just me, or did Katara not get any taller at all?

Girls typically hit their growth spurt in their early teens and wasn't she like 14 or 15 in the finale? It's reasonable that she didn't get that much taller and then old lady hunch happened.

As you get older, you can shrink. It's likely she grew taller with puberty and just shrunk back down as she became an old lady.

There's obviously a history there, just not necessarily a romantic one. Also their personalities seem to be exaggerated versions of their parents' and Aang and Toph didn't always get along swimmingly.

I think he's referring to early on when Toph would only "carry her own weight" and Aang had to chew her out because Appa carried her all over the place just like everyone else. Or when Toph thought that destroying Aang's antique belongings was a great way to teach him how to Earthbend. They were the best of friends by season 3 but Sokka was right when he said they had a rocky relationship.

Wait... so if an airbender can blast off their own feet when they sneeze... does this apply to any bodily function involving an expulsion of air?

I haven't read through the whole thread, but did anyone else get the feeling that the pro-bending guys (or maybe just the Fire Ferrets?) style of bending is inspired by the theories of Bruce Lee/Jeet Kune Do? That is, when Bolin was in the gym with Korra and she showed her earthbending off, his criticism was that it was too old-fashioned and slow. Then she mimicked the very basic boxing form (or "no-stance" from Jeet Kune Do) he showed her. It read very much like Bruce's writings and the show creators have shown themselves to be very familiar with kung fu, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was their inspiration for it.

There's been a lot of talk about how the lines between different forms are starting to blur and run together, so that's not too unlikely.

Yeah I read back through parts of the thread and saw someone mention MMA as well (which is definitely a descendent of JKD ideals), and I'm hoping they didn't jump ahead in the timeline of kung fu development, but I could also understand if they're trying to appeal to contemporary knowledge of martial arts that kids would have.

The creators are also self-professed big fans of MMA. One of the people they brought in for video reference was Mac Danzig.

That probably would have been mentioned if that was the case. Suppose it would be an interesting way to explain why Korra was kept in a compound for so long by the White Lotus.

Another clip from korranation: http://korranation.tumblr.com/post/...he-city-looking Few neat things: -Bolin may be tied up with Triple-Threat Triads. -Triple-Threat Triads kidnapped by Equalists? Maybe this is a lead-up to the big rally where Amon shows off his de-bendering power and Korra and Mako have to bust a few heads to rescue Bolin before something bad happens. I hope it is. -More shots of Equalist motorcycles seen in the trailers and some smoke grenade things. -Papu the fire ferret.

I cna't help but feel that the choice of a female protagonist goes parts and parcel with the 20's setting, or vice versa. The 20's after all was the Flapper decade, the first inkling of modern feminism and all. Just something I like thinking about, given how self assertive Korra is, especially with Tenzin.
