I finally got back to playing this game today and laid some decent times down. I'm liking the hard tracks in this more than HD for some reason. It's almost like they're easier but with a lot more obstacles to screw up on.

The custom map Silhouette Redux is a gimick map done right. So much better then limbo. It's like Lost in Shadow on the wii, but using a bike instead. Perfect. I'm glad they have redlyx picks so I don't have to find these myself. They really need to fix the highest rated tracks section. Make it a minimum of 500 votes or something.

That track is really inventive and interesting even if it felt a little tough for a medium track. I agree totally on the highest rated section, currently its a track with an invisible track line with the angle directly behind the biker and no checkpoints with only one completed score. I can't even 1 star it because I can't be hosed to try and finish that poo poo. Also: gently caress Gigatrack. Not because its hard but because its really long and not interesting at all.

Why they didn't make it so you have to hold the back button for a second or two is crazy.

You actually have to be pretty quick and downside stuff consistently throughout the course. My first runthrough I did poorly on it with the pheonix, next I did a 0/7:03 run with the scorpion, got a plat last night playing it. I felt I was doing well throughout it but still came up with a 6:58~ run to barely get plat. I guess I'm the only 1 that finds its wide-openness relaxing and refreshing from the normal technical extreme poo poo I play all the time.

Not at all, I love Gigatrack, even if getting a plat on it will probably take me a month. Falling down over a stupid bump that I just barely nudged 6 minutes into a flawless run is somehow less frustrating for me than smashing my face into a vertical wall a dozen times in 30 seconds. Also listening to my friend (who's better than me at the game) constantly miss getting Gold on it was the best experience in the game for me so far. It'd be 4-5 minutes of complete silence followed by a "GOD DAMNIT" or "gently caress", which is a lot funnier then the usual "Hey I beat your time"

How does one procure a platinum medal? I've no faulted tracks in decent times on the easy and normal courses but I've not seen any mention of platinum medals.

Platinum medals/times become visible once you get enough medals. I wanna say it's something like 140 but I'm not completely sure. They basically unlock after you "beat" the single player by getting golds on all/most of the easy, medium, and hard tracks. Then they'll show up just like any other medals. They also count retroactively so platinum times you've established before unlocking the medals will still count.

For me, it's a holdover from trying to Gold the medium tracks, where you need 0 faults. If you screw it up, hit Back and restart. I did that so many times when I was playing the Extreme tracks.

I've done this several times, some from just hitting back out of habit, and a few times just my thumb slides a bit too far off the left joystick and hits it (being too vigorous I guess) This has always happened on extreme tracks, which really pissed me off. Maybe make an option for a reset confirmation you can turn on and off? I doubt that'd ever happen though.

I just want to say that already I've played Trials Evo for over 3 times as long as I did for Modern Warfare 3. Granted I only rented MW3 and only played the single player, but I think it goes to show how good this game is in relation to all the 'AAA blockbusters' out there. Also holy poo poo I did the burnt to a crisp achievement. All I can say is thank gently caress that's done.

I was just thinking last night that unless something truly mindblowing comes out, this is easily my game of the year. As a completely unapologetic Mass Effect fanboy, I think that's saying quite a lot, really. I just got my 135 medals last night, and I don't even think I'm halfway finished with even my enjoyment of the vanilla content.

You know how sometimes when you're playing a game you lean a bit with the action or move the contoller around? Today as I was playing this I realized that on the more difficult jumps I regularly end up at a ridiculous angle away from my TV while my hands end up holding the controller somewhere around the vicinity of my right ear. It's ridiculous, and even though I'm now aware of it I can't seem to stop it.

Trials is the only game that makes me lift my controller above my head like the ape from 2001 though.

Here's more of a general Xbox question, but the application is strictly to Trials: I live in a dorm and while I was out of town this weekend, my friends decided to beat as much of this game as they could, naturally on my profile. I'm not the biggest fan of going through everything they've already completed with no reward, so I want to delete all the save data related to the game from my console (i.e. times and medals). Clearing the cache and deleting the Trials Evolution game and re-downloading it does not accomplish this, and I can't seem to find another option that does. Am I out of luck here?

The instant reloads are a huge part of the user-friendliness of these games (and Super Meat Boy for example). Having to hold the button down for several seconds or confirm a prompt would be incredibly annoying when you're trying to learn how to overcome a difficult obstacle. The accidental B-press affects far fewer people than your proposal would.

Fighting games are starting to do it too, because people don't want to accidentally pause the game while in the middle of a match.

RedLynx is cool enough that I could see them implementing it, too.

If I'm doing a 0-fault run sometimes I'll prematurely hit the back button if it looks like I'm about to crash, but I've never had a thumb slip off the left thumbstick into it. I guess it's possible, but how hard are you thrashing the stick around? Trials is all about delicate precision. And then throwing the controller through the patio window after failing the Sin City scoreboard jump.

I'm pretty loosy goosy on the sticks, and I've always been fairly rough with them. Games that have a function bound to the click-in on the stick are a nightmare for me too, as I'm always pressing so hard on the sticks that I accidentally click it in and end up throwing a grenade or blocking or whatever. It's only really an issue with the harder tracks in Trials because I get so frustrated that my stick control gets even more lax, and then my fingers start slip-sliding all over the place.
