- Am I correct in thinking the range dps classes play like a psudo-FPS?

- TERA takes up 25 GB on my HD right now.
- Mostly just animations, hit boxes and armor styles. Armor in particular varies greatly from race to race. There are racial skills, but they're pretty negligible. Definitely not something to consider when picking your race.
- Very high burst damage. The block mechanic. AoE CC. Best class at defending healers. Best class for setting up kills with Mystics and Priests.
- Archer, yes. Sorcerer, no. Archer uses a lot of directly targeted abilities. For the most part you just need to be aiming at the person when they fire. Sorcerer uses primarily AoE abilities centered 10 meters in front of you.

Install is about a 27gb download, balloons up to 50gb during install then back down to ~20gb. Race differences are mostly cosmetic, there are hitbox, range, and racial differences but they're mostly minor so play what you like.

I have a berserker up in the 50's but haven't played a slayer or warrior past 10, so I'm not really familiar with the differences but I do know that the zerker is the slower, harder hitting variant of the three. Zerker is mostly just spamming thunder strike on the back of a boss. It can be a little boring but then you crit for some obscene number like 75k and it's hard not to giggle like an idiot in glee.

Ranged classes do not play like a psuedo-fps. They are their own unique beast and very hard to describe.

Part 2 of the Argon Queen update will feature major changes for our tankers.
Warriors as tankers proove to be a difficult issue to handle but the second part of Argon Queen update aims to solve these problems. Various balance restoring plans will be tested out.

One of them is the Stamina Bar/Gauge you can see above (I assume the current stamina will revert back to condition as it was referred to previously). If a Lancer successfully blocks an attack no MP will be consumed but Stamina instead. This will ensure that Lancers will have better resources.

Warriors on the other hand will be able to continually evade and dodge attacks while they have Stamina so as long as you have stamina, no cooldown will be applied to the skill.

The formal introduction of the Stamina Gauge is yet to be finalized but the current internal tester's feedback was positive so far.

Warriors will get additional tanking skills and Lancers will get some skills to enhance solo gameplay.

Hot drat, no rolling cooldown!

Crafting can be a good source of enchant fodder, it's I think the only source for a lot of template-able models, and it can be good for gearing alts as was mentioned. If those benefits are unappealing then there's no reason to bother with crafting. I think part of why it is currently unappealing is because nobody has any idea what anything is worth (except hides, gently caress their horrendous drop rates) so you can find fantastic stuff for absolutely nothing. There probably aren't enough people at high levels to be buying all the high level gear on the broker yet, either. I'm not really sure whether crafting being somewhat unappealing and unnecessary is a good or a bad thing, but it's a consequence of non-Korean drop rates and the game still being extremely young.

If they want to make crafting more relevant I think the best thing to do would be to implement models that are unique to crafting for template purposes. I'd be fine with leveling up something that isn't really practical if I get to look cool from doing it.

And speaking of looks, female Castanic robes have got to be the worst armor in the game. There's like one good one early, one good one in the mid-game, and maybe three decent high level ones. The rest are basically just a pick among trash bags, broken umbrellas, or pajamas they outgrew 10 years ago.

Edit: A question while I'm thinking about it. What colors does the dye with the ridiculous list of components give? I assume there's more to it than just having the color selection that the individual components would have.

The issue with crafting gear is that everything takes runes. They're of limited supply and once you start hitting the late level 40 stuff, you're paying way more to craft something good than to just buy an equivalent item from the trade broker.

It will stabilize itself once a lot of people are level 60 with plenty of money to waste. The best crafted items are currently on par with the level 60 hard mode drops. It's not a side thing that is quickly forgotten once you start doing max level content.

For the inevitable alt, I want a good end-game melee PvP (both group and 1v1). The ones that appealed to be best were either Warrior or Slayer. But I can't decide which! (Just read some recent discussion, which helped, but...)

No, I don't have time to play both.

How fast a class gets powers doesn't matter to me, I'd eventually get to 60 with either one (So Slayer getting their backstab later than Warrior isn't a factor for me.)

IMO:
Knockdowns (Slayer) > Stuns (Warrior)
Some armor types have less KD resistance. All armor types gives the same stun resistance (excluding special stats).
Warrior backstab range > Slayer backstab range
Slayer backstab CD > Warrior backstab CD
Warrior attacks faster/weaker
Slayer attacks slower/stronger
Warrior more survivable
Slayer more damaging

Any advocates for either one?

Dodge animation is able to dodge over, something other races or genders cannot do.

Musashi not only wields a sword but also a pair of pistols.

Slayers get their own share of stuns, too. I'd say warriors edge out once they get Staggering Counter, though. Also, the main difference between the backstabs is Warrior's stuns, Slayer's immobilizes.

Mr. Wookums posted:

I'm pretty 100% sure the only difference between dodges/backsteps between races is the way the animation looks, not any functionality.

Also, please please PLEASE remove your alts from the main guild and reapply to Fashion Club. Do this for us. It makes it harder for us to tell who is who.

Please feel free to kick July from DGKK, if you haven't already (I'd been too lazy to upgrade myself from pubbie to goon, and been somewhat inactive to boot thanks to being swamped at work). I'd leave the guild myself if I had an actual active subscription.

I'd had a blast in this game but man, I wished either (a) this game didn't come out so close to Diablo 3, which is what all of my friends are playing, or (b) more of my friends played TERA instead. I pre-ordered and received my box copy, but being the cheap person I am, I don't plan on activating my cdkey until I can get all full month's worth of playtime out of it.

Personal preference mostly. I personally don't like looking like an oiled up male clothing model with red skin and horns. I'd rather run around as a scanty clad demon chick. All personal preference. If I had to choose a different race to play though it would be popo.

Knockdowns infrequently work against Berserkers and Lancers, and it's a gamble against Warriors. Stuns are likely to work on everyone, but the spell casters and Archers have higher stun resistance so they get more lucky resists.

Backstab CD difference is 6 seconds once both are glyphed. Slayer Backstab immobilizes instead of stunning and its duration is significantly shorter. The range thing matters most when fighting Sorcerers, as you can Backstab through Time Gyre. 15m means they can't burst you down at any range you can Backstab them. Overall I think Warrior is the clear winner here, but it's a matter of opinion.

Warrior attacks aren't necessarily weaker. Blade Draw and Traverse Cut both do more damage than the Slayer's most damaging attack, Heart Thrust, ignoring Measured Slice, which has a long animation and may or may not be good for PvP. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Slayer damage is about the combined effort of multiple attacks, but the top damage per attack is the lowest of any DD class.

And Slayers are definitely not more damaging than Warriors.

Anyway, Slayer's strengths in my opinion are:

  • Speed. Not to be confused with agility or attack speed. Between Headlong Rush, Dash, decent base movement speed (110, Warrior's 120) and Backstab, Slayers cover ground faster than any other class. This is amazing in group PvP and ties into the Slayer play style mentioned below.

  • Distant Blade. Granted, it barely does any damage beyond 10m, but it serves to keep people in combat and acts as a decent finisher.

  • Knockdowns. While I find stuns are more useful in general, knockdowns are attached to your regular attacks. With the Slayer's high impact factor, second only to Berserkers, most of your attacks have a good chance of knocking enemies down. A Warrior has to use specific skills to stun their target.

  • Decent minimum damage. While yes, Warriors can put out more damage in single attacks, they also have some relatively weak ones. Slayers don't. It feels like everything goes by Overhand Strike. Heart Thrust and Whirlwind do about double its damage, other attacks do slightly less.

  • The combination of all of the above. PvP as a Slayer basically involves going in and out of melee range so you can take advantage of your heavy cooldown/chance based play style, speed and high impact to stay in the fight as long as possible. Warriors are better at surviving in the thick of things, Slayers just leave.

Mr. Wookums posted:

Not true. Dodge works exactly the same way for all races save for the animation. My Aman just jumps to the ground like he's trying to avoid an explosion and he can do everything a Castanic could with his dodge.

Not to mention that's not unique to female Castanics. Male Castanics have the jump dodge animation as well.

Popori Warriors have a low handspring roll and I'm pretty sure they can go through mobs with it the same way Castanics can jump over them. So yeah. If you're not sure you can clip through mobs you should definitely try it, because Evasive Roll usually will allow you to do it.

Did they ever fix the animation being out of sync with the damage for Popori Warriors? I don't know why, but it bugged the poo poo out of me how the swings were not timed to the damage popups.

Yeah, for the animation of Evasive Roll, you clip through NPCs and PCs and are invulnerable to any attacks or other harmful effects. Thanks to this, the Castanic Evasive Roll has absolutely no advantage over the other races' Evasive Roll animations.

And if you want a cool dodge animation, you go with Popori Slayer. They jump, place their greatsword on the ground and twirl it while using it to propel themselves.

Ahhhh! I hit 50 on my Slayer. Questing is very much slower now because it takes a lot more time to kill the various mobs involved. I reckon it would be much faster if I kept buying new gold weapons and other items at every possible chance, but that feels like a giant money sink.

Any money you spend now will be negligible by level 60. I spent 310g to get a level 47 gold sword rerolled to double attack speed and enchanted to +6. I got lucky so my next one, at level 50, only took one reroll, despite having purchased 30 of each scroll already.

That said, to me leveling efficiency and fun are more important than money I'm going to make back in one level.

My mystic is level 42. I've mostly soloed all the way up. My technique is to never just be killing one mob. I'll attempt to fight 2 or more since our only two useful damage abilities are AoE. I'll use Volley of Curses occasionally at the beginning of a fight. I've gotten the useful damage glyphs which make it a little faster to solo.

I occasionally play with my Slayer friend when we are at the same point in quests. With my mp aura and power buff, we really go through mobs quickly. I've also had a lot of fun griefing people during PvP. Putting someone to sleep and then having the BAM one shot them followed by the hate tells is hilarious.

Are you keeping up with story quests? I hit 50 yesterday and I got a 48 golden sword/assorted gear from story quests that took no effort at all since they were in the middle of my questing path (well killing a minor BAM and a defense quest but those are easily doable).

They'll have a stamina bar. Using dodge uses up some stamina. The idea is that, as long as the warrior has stamina, they can dodge around like crazy. But the number of times they can dodge in a row is limited because once they run out of stamina they have to wait until their stamina regenerates before dodging again.
