The biggest OH poo poo moment for me was when I chose to try to save Shawn, because I figured he looked in more immediate danger and if they had the balls to kill the kid I was curious to see that. Well anyway, I felt like I could really save Shawn, obviously I pick up this plank of wood and bash these zombies... Oh fucken hell I just bashed them through the fence and towards the poor guy. It moved so fast and I felt so responsible. Hershel liked that I tried but drat I just made things worse. I tried to make Kenny feel better because I felt like I was in the same boat as him. It felt short because I wanted to play more. Luckily I will get my chance. I will try to stick with one play per episode so I don't get my wires crossed, by definitely after I've played them all I am playing them all again differently.

God drat, that was ... amazing. It could've easily been unintentionally hilarious, but Vanaman and Rodkin just loving nailed the writing. My head is still spinning a bit so I'm kinda rambling, but they absolutely loving nail the horror of a post zombie apocalypse world, and I don't mean just bashing zombie heads in with a hammer, I mean facing all the little personal tragedies and having them just build up and build up. Two amazing parts of the game: The answering machine and the girl in the motel. I don't know how it got to me so much but I was tearing up a bit as she lifted the gun to her head and all I could do was feebly mumble "god bless you". What the gently caress do you say to someone who has no hope left? I also really liked how you can do everything "perfectly" (in game terms) and still have bad outcomes. It's the end of the loving world. It's gonna be a lovely ride no matter what you do, just get to pick the flavor of the poo poo. God drat, shot right up to my top games of 2012 list and I can't wait for episode 2.

I hope we get more zombie puzzles. Slowly going through the motel parking lot thinking up cleaver ways to quietly take out walkers was my favorite part of the episode. I also love the way they handled the combat. it's sparse and brutal like it should be in a zombie survival story.

I kind of didn't like that part because using a pillow to muffle a gunshot is silly and not all that intuitive. I picked up the pillow after I checked the zombie the first time, and checking it again with the pillow in my inventory was the very last thing I tried because it never occurred to me that that bit of movie logic would be in the game. But that might just be me.

I think I'll spoiler this just in case, but it's a somewhat general comment that I think people are expecting of the game anyway, but ya know, just in case. I really hope they eventually stop with the cameos from the book. It was cute in the first episode, but I really think if they keep going with them, especially if they're in every episode, it'll just get to be too much. It's the same universe, yes, but coincidence can only take something like that so far. To he honest, I thought two separate cameos in the same episode were pushing it a bit.

When I click on it it installs and but nothing happens, not even an error message. Any help would be really appreciated. This happened to me too. The solution was to browse to the game directory and put the .exe into win98/me compatibility mode and launch it as an administrator. edit: I suppose I should chime in about playing the game. The game is really immersive and I found myself playing Lee for the most part as myself in that situation. Exposition: I was pretty up front with people regarding who I was and what my relationship to Clem was. I just ran into her and she had been on her own for a couple days, etc. When Hershel asked about my history I was also pretty upfront about it because I felt that regardless of what Lee did in the past, poo poo is hitting the fan and actions would speak louder than newspapers. As far as choices go (rationalizations ahead) I saved Duck because I figured I could get him away from the walkers and roll the tractor off Shaun's leg in one go, but of course the walkers made that plan more complicated, but even in the heat of the moment I made the decision to save the kid above all else. During the argument in the pharmacy I opted to rationalize with Larry because it was clear we were all stuck there for the time being so we might as well not start things off by making enemies. That said when he started talking about killing Duck I stepped in and defended the boy, albeit non-violently. In the pharmacy I also decided to shelter Clem a bit, at least in regards to her parents. I gave her hope for that while at the same time coming clean about my past when it came up. I figured she would appreciate my honesty and I trusted that she wouldn't just go blabbing about it to the others. I also decided that while being upfront about my history to Hershel was the best move at the time, here we had a bunch of people in a high stress situation and Larry's temper suggested to me that keeping my past mostly to myself was probably smart. At the motel I told Carly to give the girl the gun because she knew what was going to happen, and so did I. If she wanted to punch her own ticket before she changed that is entirely understandable. After the pharmacy got overrun and I had to choose who to save I literally reacted purely on unconscious pragmatism and saved Doug. In the span of maybe two seconds I weighed their usefulness to the group and while Carly seemed to be a good shot, Doug knows poo poo about technology and I felt that was the more important skill. It also occurred to me that she knew who I was and that basically sealed the deal, if only to alleviate a chance at drama in the future detracting from everyone's focus on staying alive. It was a really grim decision and in the heat of the moment you have all these feelings rushing forward and you have to react and then piece together what your rationale was at the time after the fact. That in particular was what really struck home for me with this game. Tell Tale did a phenomenal job putting you in situations where you have to react rather than sit there and think about it and at the same time not be constrained by what you think is the "right" choice mechanically speaking. Instead you're free to act on your own motivations rather than the game's, and it really sells the immersion. I can't wait for episode 2. My friend just got this and the game refuses to start, running the game through Steam gets "Walkingdead101.exe has stopped working" before anything happens, not even the main menu. He's above minimum spec with current drivers, has verified the cache, has tried compatibility mode and every other 'fix' we've found by Googling, and we're pretty much out of ideas. Anyone had a similar issue?

So yeah, this ws an awesome first episode, and if the next lives up to the first's quality, I'd consider my $25 well spent. My choices: 1: I saved Duck, not out of any pragmatic reason, but because he's just a kid, goddamit! I did feel bad about abandoning the guy who saved my life though, and Hershel's grief really hit me hard. I really did think I could save them both. I was honest with Hershel, though. 2: Sided with Kenny all the way; sure, Larry had a few good points, but again- kid. Like Lee said, we could take him and his mother on if we had to. Call me a softy, but when you start messing with kids, I start seeing red. 3: I was kind of honest with Clementine about Lee's criminal past- sure, I told her I did some bad things, but the reasons? Those I felt were something Lee needed to sort out with himself before Clementine. 4: Gave Irene the gun, and told Carly to let me take the gun afterwards. No regrets about this decision whatsoever. 5: I saved Carly too; she's proven she's a good shot, and that counts for more than supposed MacGyver skills (other than the remote). The later confrontation with Larry only cemented my decision- in case things go to hell, and it comes out that Lee's a killer, I'd have Carly on my side at the very least since I trusted her- or so I hope Any news on when the next ep's coming out? EDIT: God almighty- I'm poking around the internet, looking for clues/reviews etc, and there are people who are saying this 'shouldn't be called a game, but an interactive story'. What the hell? Aren't those two the same thing? Or are people really just getting mad they can't go Rambo on the zombies? CommissarMega fucked around with this message at Apr 27, 2012 around 02:33 |

I'm encountering a weird bug on the PS3 version. I've played through the episode twice on two different profiles. I was going to start a third file today but when I started the game up I was unable to navigate the menus after selecting play. It's like it freezes but the background keeps moving and music plays. So, I loving hate adventure games, because they're dumb and they use space logic and they're not nearly as open and systems simulate-y as they try to pretend to be, but I enjoyed this a lot because of the heavy emphasis on story stuff in spite of the fact that I could feel my blood pressure rising during the parking lot bits and the while trying to get into the pharmacy. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I enjoyed this despite it being in a genre that I generally consider to be dogshit. Which puts it in the rarified company of Chrono Trigger, NBA Jam, and Mario Kart. Good job, Telltale. I've been pretty even handed with everyone in the game so far but that bit at the end with the Larry... when the opportunity presents itself, I will END that fat gently caress. Conversely, I felt like Kenny and his whole family were kind of dumbass shitbirds who were doomed, and intended to ditch them as soon as possible, but after Kenny rescued me at the end I now have his back. I also saved Carley, because being able to shoot a zombie in the head is a bit more practical than being a nerd, on top of the fact that she's being reasonable about Lee's past.

I feel like giving my own take on the Carly choice. Doug looked more helpless so I saved him was likely my reasoning at the time, but after the fact I kinda reasoned not weighing the logic of saving the person who had a gun and could use it. I feel bad for thinking about this logically like this. Saving her gets you the gun and a shooter and on paper that sounds good. But because I have read the comics so much and they show shooting attracting zombies like twice in the first episode plus the whole suicide shooting ordeal, having a gun can be more trouble than it is worth. I am curious to see if stuff plays out so different where my caution will be realized. It's not like you won't be able to complete anything either way so I feel silly.

Lee is pretty interesting for a protagonist in that despite you being able to play him as a nice guy, he's still apparently a murderer. Sure, we don't know all the details (yet at least), but I get a feeling that they might tie in the idea of him redeeming himself throughout the series.

Completed chapter one. This game is awesome. Choices: 1. Tried to save dude under the tractor. He saved Lee's rear end and Lee owed him. In a very cold way, he is/was more useful to me than a small child. 2. Sided with Kenny. gently caress Larry. He wanted to murder a child out of fear and anger. His daughter is not the leader of the group. He is by way of being the least reasonable. In the next game I will off him the second it becomes convenient to do so. 3. I was 100% honest with Clementine about Lee's past. She should know who she is traveling around with. I don't expect a seven year old to make informed decisions, but I also didn't want to outright lie to her about it. I did lie to her about her parents though. Knowing that you're suddenly all alone in the world at a young age would probably crush her. I didn't want to rob her of what little hope she had left, even if the hope was false. 4. Gave the woman the gun. If she wanted to opt out I say fine. Letting her suffer is wrong. I do wish that one of the survivors could have done it for her. I personally wouldn't have trusted her with the gun. One of them mercy killing her seemed far more practical. 5. Saved Carly. Yes, she knows Lee's secret. However, Doug is afraid of zombies. Tech skills are useful, but I figure that someone who is good with a gun and action oriented is more useful than skills with technology. If Doug had some more blue collar skills like welding or carpentry I probably would have chosen him over Carly though. Yeah, I think that with everyone but Clementine I was always thinking with what was the coldest and most logical part of my brain. The things for the next episode: Kill Larry. He flipped the gently caress out and tried to bully the group into throwing Duck to the zombies without even bothering to verify if Duck had been bitten. Later he punched Lee in the face and left him to be eaten by zombies. I could respect him if he just outed Lee as a murderer and had tried to drive him out of the group. I would have hated him, but I could have understood it. However, he just took it upon himself to punch Lee in the face and leave him to be eaten by zombies right after Lee got the meds that saved his life. He's a violent, opportunistic coward and I will throw him under the bus without a second thought. As far as I figure, his daughter is responsible for his actions too by not reigning him in. She would go right under the bus with him. gently caress both of them. Keep Kenny, Carly and Clementine alive. I really like Kenny. Sure he isn't 100% reliable, but I don't blame him for panicking when his child was in danger. He also knows that panicking when his kid was out of immediate danger was bad, but really got himself together when he had to go for the truck/save Lee's rear end. So he's actually reliable when his family is not in harm's way. Love this game. Looking forward to the next chapter. Ice Phisherman fucked around with this message at Apr 27, 2012 around 10:34 |

OK so here is a question. It relies on spoilers at the end of the game so if you're not there, don't read. Does it matter to Carly's fate if you give the bitten woman the gun or not? I saved the guy with the great t-shirt because I figured Carly's got a gun, she can fend for herself for a moment. But nope, she runs out of bullets. Is this scripted or a consequence of me mercy killing that woman? I figure it's scripted in but it'd be really amazing if that was actually a factor.

I'm such an idiot, but that's nothing new. With Hershal and Glenn's cameo, when I was playing I honestly thought it was an "alternate reality" type cameo, as if the two of them never saw Rick and the gang. But near the end when Glenn mentions about his friends in Atlanta and the power going off, it made sense in a prologue like way. Maybe we'll see Shane and Lori next before they find Rick?

The only way we could currently support B&W was straight desaturation, which we didn't like because it treats brightness values in a weird unexpected way (100% red and 100% green and 100% blue all become the same shade of gray when you desaturate), which isn't really how your eye (or black and white film, or an illustration) sees those value levels, so it looked flat and funky to us. Especially when the last notable black and white mode, in LA Noire, was a hand tuned work of art. That said, maybe we should have just done it as some people would be into it.

People comparing the dialog to Alpha Protocol makes me want to try out the game, but I have a few questions. 1- is it interesting to replay? The best thing in AP was how not only could you find things out with certain decision paths that otherwise you would never, ever know, but also that the cannon of the story could change from playthrough to playthrough depending on your actions. Does this have that, or just a little, or not at all really? 2- RPS said that the stuff you have to click winds up in weird rear end places sometimes. Anybody have a problem with that? Seems like a pain in the butt.
