What I don't understand is why people post that on a chat. I compare the attractiveness of girls and guys with friends all the time but don't do it in public with people I don't know.

Didn't say I was OK with it, but you should really understand by now that stream chats are echo chambers of pure trolling. I'm just not quite sure of what quoting some of their witticisms achieves.

Maybe it's worse in fighting game streams, most people I know just don't open the chat.

A small group of people willing to say "wow, that is really lovely. What the gently caress is wrong with those people?" is what lets people say "well, this hobby has bad people in it, but it also has good people in it, so it's pretty much like everything else ever".

If no one ever made 'pointless' comments about how lovely sexist behaviour in the hobby is, the hobby would appear to be full of nothing but sexists and people not bothered by sexism. And that's the sort of thing that leads to non-sexists leaving the hobby and women not wanting to get involved in the hobby in the first place.

Unless you think that nerds being terrible people is literally a fact of life, inherent to their unchanging nature, there's absolutely no downside to calling out sexist behaviour on stream chat, and a whole bunch of upsides.

Also saying "I don't understand the point of discussing this" is actually saying you are okay with the status quo (which, in case you aren't following, is "not discussing this"). So if you honestly aren't okay with sexist behaviour, you should not be attempting to shut down discussion about how crappy it is. And yes, saying "I think discussing this is pointless" is a way of trying to shut down discussion about it.

I guess it's a step forward that they at least aren't l knocking her playskill for no reason? I dunno. I agree, it is super telling that the only way they can parse her is whether they would or would not have sex with her. That seems really depressing and lonely.

I'm looking forward to watching the stream when she's doing commentary. That should be fun.

Some Magic: the Gossiping: we went out on a party bus with Chapin and sundry pros. It was fine until Radha started barfing because she's like 12. Later, Tom Martell asked someone for a cigarette and apparently got a joint instead. We last saw him back at the hotel watching an EDH match and talking about how he had no idea what was going on.

Pretty surreal night.

The joke of an actual MLP expansion aside, I think Magic could actually learn a lot from its production. Whatever you think of the adult fans of MLP, I think it's hard to deny that the people who work on it did an amazing job at turning a corporate mandate to sell toys into a show that by all accounts is very attractively produced and gives its target audience a lot more credit than they often are by marketing vehicles (such as previous generations of the franchise). It's a real silk-purse-from-sow's-ear story. I would not complain at all if such an attitude came to Magic.

Doesn't "bloodbraid" sorta mean like, hair braided with blood? Because the first one looks like a bewildered hippie that fell off a tour bus with bed head, not really a powerful Elven warrior with hair braided with the blood of her kills. Neither of them really seem like any sort of success.

I like the second one more because the background is a nicer colour.

Nehru the Damaja

I've never tried it but I imagine braiding your hair with blood and sinew is gonna lead to some coarse dreadlock kinda style like the original. Even Argyle seemed to think so when he did the FTV art for Kresh.

You know, most creatures with haste have their art reflect it in some way: they're in the middle of attacking, they're just about to attack, they're in motion of some kind, maybe they're even just leaning forward.

Both of those elves are just standing there. I wouldn't think either of them were hasty at all.

Oh no i didn't mean to insinuate that at all, i was just posting at how boring i thought the new art is compared to the old one. I like the idea that bloodbraid elves as a race talk a tremendous amount of poo poo and randomly back it up or fail miserably.

"A pack of dragons? I got this poo poo, check this -BOOM! MAELSTROM PULSE! loving DEAD!"

What do you do with a drunken Viking?

Lucas Florent's lifetime ban for threatening to surprise sex Helene Bergeot (context: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/playe...zards-employee/) has apparently been changed to a one-year ban, at least according to Twitter.

I'm somewhat surprised that Wizards backtracked on such a serious matter, but they seem to have been doing it multiple times lately (Matignon's ban was also shortened significantly). It seems odd to me personally since MTG pro players are essentially ambassadors of your game - do you really want someone who's going to say those kinds of things representing you?

Shortening Matignon's ban seemed like a decent thing to do, honestly, but I too am really surprised that they relented on a case of threatened sexual violence. I wonder what the reasoning was. I don't believe that people should never be given a chance to turn over a new leaf but I haven't heard anything about Florent making an abject apology and going on a lecture circuit telling kids about how not to be a horrible person, which is about the degree of mitigating factors I'd be looking for if I were hypothetically in charge of this.

It's all about intent. People say stuff all the time they don't mean literally, the meaning of words in the English language change depending on the context. If you were brought up in an environment where saying "surprise sex" is an acceptable euphemism for "destroy" (read 'I will destroy you' instead of 'I will surprise sex you') then it's easy to understand why he would make such a throwaway comment not realising how offensive it is.

The kid was an idiot and deserved punishment but a lifetime ban is just plain ridiculous because in my eyes he didn't try to deliberately offend anyone, he just wasn't smart enough to realise he was being offensive.
