It is bullshit that people do that, if you've screwed up or someone/some zombies got to you just accept it. Sort of defeats the point of immersing yourself in a game if you're just going to exploit it at every available opportunity. If you've been swarmed by zombies just waiting at the bottom of a ladder or just outside a door, face the music and either wait it out, try to kill them, or accept your demise. It's like people that abuse quick-saves, I just don't see the point.

I clear areas by thowing a smoke grenade to the side of it then crouchwalk in to scoop everything up while the zombies stand in the smoke.

Also I see some talk about buying the PMC DLC for better textures, is that the only addition (that affects the Day Z mod)? And is it a huge difference? H. So I'm the only one who thinks it's still more fun than 1.5.6? Also, I don't mind dying in this, no matter what my loot is. But dying bullshit deaths in combat kinda sucks. This time it was right after a server restart, some survivor that spawned next to us got killed by my brother. He in turn got killed by a bandit who had also spawned near us. The bandit didn't see me, so I waited for him to start looting before I put a couple of DMR rounds into the back of his neck. He falls down bleeding like a fountain. I move up. 2 seconds later I get killed and he magically reappeared where he had dropped, shooting at me.

We killed like 20 zombies around a barn while our characters are literally starving and went in hoping to find food and all we found was empty tin cans MrOnBicycle posted:So I'm the only one who thinks it's still more fun than 1.5.6? It is not imo. It really needed more zombies but not this loving many. I really hate how every zombie can get a gold medal in 500m dash in Olympics and they chase you forever. Disconnecting from server is the only way to survive right now when you have zombies on your rear end.

MrOnBicycle posted:So I'm the only one who thinks it's still more fun than 1.5.6? No. I like it better too. I would just like to see the respawn rate lowered so you don't see new zombies magically appearing while you're still killing the original group. Maybe I just got lucky though, since none of the barns I checked out had more than 6 or 7 zombies around them and those were easy to sneak past. Edit: Oh yeah and obviously I hope the way zombies run and their clipping issues are fixed soon too.

I like the zombie counts but the respawn is just bananas. If I throw a smoke grenade and then kill the horde it attracts with a frag grenade by the time I get down there a new horde has spawned. If you stand at the edge of a town and fire in to clear it you will have a never ending fight because more will spawn to replace the first ones you shoot before you kill everything. Well it ends when you run out of ammo.

I think the number of zombies is great currently, I just wish they wouldn't respawn on top of you. And I also agree with you about the bullshit deaths. A friend and I were looting the Stary Sobor camp when I saw a survivor approaching. I didn't have a good shot and I let him get way too close to the camp. He kills my friend, but I get him once he stands up. I see him die in chat. On my way to check his body, I see movement. He's back and with all his gear. I fire a couple of bursts at him with my M4, he turns and caps me in the head with an M14. Dead. Not a good day.

And yes, I think the zombie spawn system is bullshit as well, but it's still more fun with shitloads of zombies than hardly any at all. I'd rather have this until it gets tweaked than how it was like before. It's pretty hilarious at the moment to watch the zombies spawn in, sling their invisible rifles, and go about their business.

There really needs to be a radius around each player that zombies can't spawn in to stop them spawning right on top of you. The respawn rate itself is fine to me, it's just that it can happen in the most ridiculous or annoying places. For example, just after starting my current life, I was being chased by three zombies on the way to Elektro, and just as I killed the third one, a fourth spawned right next to it, ran up, hit me and started me bleeding EDIT: Also, I really seriously hope that reddit/4chan never discover how to do custom radio commands. Just read about this on Rock Paper Shotgun which has a very compelling two part article about Day Z. Sounds awesome. It would seem the mod's website is down, no doubt collapsed under all the traffic of the past day or two. Does anybody know if the goon mirror of the mod files listed in the OP is up to date with today's patch? I would love to give this a shot, it sounds like the game I've been waiting for my entire life. Also is there a particular server that goons congregate on? Sounds to me like joining a group of bandit goons is my ticket to ride.

No there is no real goon server but check the PGS thread. We usually hop from server to server for one of the following reasons: 1. The server went to poo poo 2. we can't find vehicles

Here is a link to where the mod files are located. The website does seem down right now. http://www.armafiles.info/dayz/ This game was honestly a lot more fun without all the crawling past zombies. I don't care so much that there are so many (well I do a little), but the way they re-spawn is kind of ridiculous.

If it is any consolation I read on the DayZ forum that the dev didn't mean to make the spawns so crazy. They just wanted to make the helicopter death glitch go away. I, too, liked it more without a ton of zombies, felt more desolate.

This mod really needs a bit more randomization with zombies. It's kind of dumb that every zombie is completely capable of doing everything that every other zombie does; if they made it so that some zombies ran/walked at different speeds it would make it far more realistic, and it would make it so that you aren't totally hosed if more than 10 zombies started chasing you. Having every zombie run at the same speed as the player is an exercise in tedium, some zombies should lose interest, some zombies should run a lot slower than the player and some should run at a similar speed to the player. Being followed by 20 zombies for 10+ miles is absolutely ridiculous.

Have any zombies in close proximity to each other be assigned to a temp squad, and have that squad run at a target in a delta or line formation. This formation combined with the zig-zagging the zombies normally do would make a much more convincing horde than the conga line chasing someone in single-file down a street.
