I'm reinstalling Arma and getting everything I need to play. Anyone mind holding my hand for a game? I only played Arma 2 for a few hours and never got the hang of it. Should be ready to roll in about an hour. I'll buy you pizza.

This game is amazing. Had some great tense moments this morning stalking around Chernogorsk with Commoners and looting from buildings and people. The highlight of the night: At dawn, Commoners and I were down near the docks and noticed three bandits coming to our position. There were about a dozen zombies between us and the closest cover, so we ended up being stuck out in the open whereas the three bandits had a great piece of cover. As soon as they spotted us they opened fire. Commoners got shot in the leg and rolled off the ledge onto the beach and I opened up with my AKM to try and suppress them as much as I could. The dozen zombies that were right next to me and about a dozen more coming out of the city suddenly charged the bandits. One of the bandits panicked and took off down the street and all of the zombies went straight after him. As the other two bandits were focusing on Commoners, who was still returning fire with his Winchester (and his endless supply of ammuntion for it), I took the opportunity to circle around them. Commoners took a round to the face before I could get into position. The remaining two bandits went back to cover and were looking out at where I was before. I came up behind them and shot one in the back, then killed the other as he turned around. I think the other bandit ended up getting killed by the zombies, because just then the horde came pouring out of the city after me. I backed up onto the beach and made a stand, expending all of my remaining ammunition and piling up about 40 zombie corpses around me. This game is awesome.

I've only played a few hours worth but have really enjoyed the mod so far. I was on a Euro server so it was pitch black night, which was actually helpful since I could loot buildings without having to worry about players. One barn actually had a zombie(s) in it but I couldn't see where he was but heard his constant gibbering and making my skin crawl. One thing I found out is crawling next to a bush/plant, or on it, causes constant noises which sound like someone else crawling near you. I felt stupid after spending a while looking around for someone trying to get the jump on me.

So I've finally got it to stop giving errors when I launch. When I try to join a server it says "Receiving Data" and the bar fills up. Then it kicks me back to the server list and says "Waiting for character to create." What am I supposed to do now? Edit: Well, I found out that was because I didn't install BattleEye because my brother swore I didn't need it. Some times it takes a really long time for the character to create thing to finish up. If it just hangs or refuses to connect, i've seen some devs suggesting to re-download all of the mod files and install it again.

Jesus loving christ. Played Arma 2 free to see if it was worth dropping 30 bucks on mostly for this mod, and this feels like the worst PC port ever despite no console release of Arma. How do you fix the: Horribly low FOV lovely mouse controls lovely optimization

Anyone know which servers are the most reliable or is it random? Some servers seem to require updated files and some don't so I'm a bit confused.

Version 1.5.2 for the mod just came out like 20 minutes ago, so you might need to update that. All of the servers except US3 & US4 should work, but those 2 require the beta version of Arma I think.

It happens, the mod's central database server freaks out a lot and causes that. You just have to wait it out, or come back and try again later.

How do you fix the: Yeah the engine is pretty old and has a lot of issues. Despite this, it does so much that many other engines haven't done so technically it does a lot of neat things. But you have to just deal with the overall wonkiness of the game to appreciate the cool things that can happen.

So am I to assume the at night the game is unplayable because I can't see a drat thing and nothing casts lights in the distance. The only thing I see are flares which don't help as it's mostly other spawned pubbies. Also, how do you normally chat? I'm using global but no one seems to respond.

For the people thinking of buying Combined Ops, you might want to try the Operation Arrowhead demo that can be downloaded through Steam. It ran (and looked) much better than Arma 2 Free for me, although the engine is always going to be a bit clunky. Combined Ops has also been on sale for as low as $16.44 from Amazon DD so I'm planning on waiting for the next sale when hopefully the mod will be more polished.

How do I delete my stats? I've tried making another profile and it didn't work. I show up ingame as a bandit and no one trusts me, but I haven't been shooting except for one gunfight where I had to defend myself.

Some servers are super cutthroat where it is every man for himself. Some are rather cooperative, where Friendly calls tend to be well received. Take that as you will. Also I found a reasonably reliable spawn for the mp5-sd, which is my new favorite gun. Shooting from 5 feet away doesn't aggro zombies, and it is suppressed so players have a harder time identifying you in the area.

How do you climb a latter if you only have a pistol? Someone told me to put it in my backpack but I can't seem to do it. I open my pack but no matter what I can't move the pistol anywhere. I know I'm missing something small/stupid but I'm not sure what.

I'm starting to pretty much shoot most players on sight, I find that the main killer getting to me is trust. I saw a guy getting knocked down and mauled by zombies, feeling rather brave and kind I shot dead his attackers and proceeded to bandage and perform a blood transfusion. He promptly thanked me my putting two bullets in my face. Whelp.

The way I look at it nighttime can be your best friend. You don't need to worry about someone far off spotting you as much. I spent most of last night running through pitch black forests to get over to the northwest section of the map when my friends were holding out and it was great. Nobody is out in the vast wilderness and there's a lot of loot to be found in forestry towers and unmarked structures along isolated roads. Just avoid named places. People are going to shoot at you whether you're a bandit or not. I haven't ran into a single person who doesnt just start firing on me in a few days, and now that vehicles are re-enabled you can guarantee people will kill you on sight if you even accidentally stumble onto it. If you managed get on yourself, people will go out of their way to shoot it, or shoot the tires out, or anything.

Also make sure you go into the video options and set the 3D resolution to the same value as the screen resolution. Mine was defaulted to 1440xsomething and it looked absolutely terrible until I changed that up to 1920x1080.

If you are out in the middle of nowhere with no buildings around, you won't see any. As for structures in woods, there's wooden towers with fairly good loot.

Searched the area for food to help him out, only to return and see a bandit looting his dead corpse. He tried to run. Needless to say, he didn't make it far.

Whoever [LLJK]Bees is, sorry we killed you, it's just what we do. Running in a four man bandit gang back and fourth through Cherno and Elektro is the best way to play this game. We just wait for flares or gunshots and stalk players, or throw flare and fire gunshots so players find us. It's by far the best way to get equipment in this mod.
